pretty accurate review on Ring. I've had it for 3 years now. I'll be moving soon & looking into a better system. The clarity & recording of the Ring are absolutely horrible!! my car got broken into at 4am right in front of my home & the camera was not able to get a clear video because the night vision is total crap. all you see is a dark shadow from 10 ft away. It also misses movement on a regular basis. My neighbor has the Ring doorbell & also has the same issue where things happen out front & the camera doesn't record. I know its not a wi-fi or connectivity issue because his is hardwired. I would never recommend Ring to anyone
So, as an Vivint owner for one year now, HERE IS THE REAL REVIEW. First, everything he says about the system is true, BUT here are the SERIOUS disadvantages and WHY I AM MOVING WITHOUT MY VIVINT SYSTEM that I paid in full for. Second, the HD and 4K cameras are VERY mediocre quality, they are B&W at night, not color, unless your yard is spot flooded with 5500k lighting. The cameras use IR technology which causes license plates to glow so forget about for any reason. Third, the motion detection is so easy to defeat, all you have to do is walk fast or run and THEY WON'T DETECT ANYTHING. Fourth, at 1:30 of this video the camera shown is HORRIBLE. It has an extremely poor frame rate and even with STUDIO lighting the color is poor. I believe it uses pixel shifting to create an upscale 1080 rez from a 480 chip. It is located with line sight less that 20 feet from the Hub. The pic that Vivint shows regarding this cam on their ad is pure false advertising. Fifth, the DOORBELL IS slow and often does not work fast enough. It is actually the best camera but it is TOO SLOW to react. I bought this system following sponsored reviews like this one. I live with 400 feet of a major cell tower, yet it says my WI-FI connection is weak. Finally, I called Vivint to complain and their customer service said everything is working fine. I think they STINK!
I like Ring because it works fine for us with no monthly fees. It does not matter if we are 3000 miles away from home. If the water heater leaks, I know immediately. If the smoke detector goes off, I know immediately. If a contact sensor is triggered, I know immediately. If the room temperature drops below 40F, I know immediately. All this with no monthly fees , no contract.
Lol so you want to be notified when shit happens for entertainment ? What happens when you see on your cameras that nobody is monitoring it besides yourself and someone like ADT can’t call the cops ?
Vivint is the best in my opinion and the most expensive. So I will pass on that . I want to have professional monitoring service but using my own video camera.
Is anyone else gettin screwed by adt? Had their service 7+ years and they "dont have any newer hardware we can upgrade to..." maybe it's just a country thang... also can't access 2 of the 7 cams we have on the app's automations for starters... got absolutely no help when trying to find footage after a theft..etc..
Yes ADT is more expensive but remember what your mama told you about getting what you pay for. I choose ADT most because of the Z-wave+ connection and the S-line military grade equipment. However it was the in house monitoring that really sold me on ADT. They don't subcontract their monitoring like Vivant and all the other contributors. That's why they are more expensive. They have either 6 or 9 of their own dispatch centers right here in the US. With ADT all of their dispatcher are at least EMT licensed. Combine with the fastest response time in the industry, you literally have a train EMT in your home in less than a minute. Isn't that worth a little extra. With Vivant, SimpliSafe, and Ring, ect, the dispatcher you get in an emergency could be someone that is over seas reading from a script and may not even speak English very well. All the other contributors dispatcher can do is tell you to remain claim. ADT dispatchers can talk you through doing CPR or help you be the 1st responder in a medical emergency.
Yeah wrong, I use to work for ADT, they are all about money now dont care about their customers. I’ve set up a lot of people with ADT, actually most of my customers had ADT, gave them more stuff for around the same as they paid for ADT, and they love it way better than the ADT stuff. With Vivint people think we are expensive because we dont ask people to buy our stuff out right, we finance it. ADT asks for a few hundred to a thousand dollars upfront for cameras, which would be around the same cost as what we charge upfront, but their monthly stays the same never goes down sometimes ADT likes to sneak in a couple dollars extra to your bill without you knowing. With Vivint pricing goes down half the price what ADT monitoring is.
@@R3cklessExo... I when I was shopping around Vivint was on my list. Their offer was EXACTLY what you said you don't like about ADT. Vivian wanted over $2000 for the equipment. They offered to finance the equipment by DOUBLING my monthly bill for FIVE years. With ADT all my equipment was FREE. Also I OWN my ADT equipment. With Vivint I would have had to pay that $2000+, and I wouldn't have even owned the equipment. It's a 60 month LEASE. With ADT I have a 3 year user agreement, that allows me to cancel without having to pay thousands of dollars. The 5 year CONTRACT with Vivint is iron clad, you have to pay thousands, even if you sell your house and move to an area where Vivint isn't even available. ADT covers all 50 states plus parts of Canada and northern Mexico. There are lots of reasons that I went with ADT over Vivint, and price was one of them. My monthly monitoring is LOCK IN with ADT. It's GUARANTEED not to increase. After my 36 month user agreement is over, I can accept a rate REDUCTION or get a bunch of additional equipment, while automatically transferring to a month to month subscriber. With Vivint the fine print made it clear that my bill would have a bunch of hidden fees, and extra charges. Plus after 5 years the contract AUTO REVIEWS. Consumers beware... if you don't cancel Vivint within 30 days of your CONTRACT, you're on the hook AUTOMATICALLY for another FIVE YEARS!!! I don't think Vivint is a bad company, but in my opinion they aren't very upfront about cost, and their 5 year contract is ridiculous. I know as a customer of ADT they really are "more than just a line in the sand". Their customer service is outstanding, and my equipment is BY FAR the best on the market. ADT protects the White House, the Pentagon, and every US military base. Every Federal Judge is required to have an ADT system. All the most important places and people are protected by ADT. That's why I chose ADT for my home to protect my family.
@@R3cklessExo I got one of the more expensive packages with full video and home automation. I think it's $2.25 per day, including tax. Basically less than a bottle of Coke at 7-11. However personally I didn't get home security to save money. I got it to save lifes. The lives and wellbeing of my family is priceless, and my service with ADT is worth every penny.

With Vivint another thing i love is that we are able to give customers a free trial to try out the system and cameras for 7days before they keep the stuff. Being with Vivint I’ve realized all the sketchy stuff ADT has done and its crazy that i had to figure that out switching to Vivint. And having to do with the name brand ADT has been around for 140 years thats why it is used in the Pentagon because it was the first security company that stuck around for a long while, thats why most people go with ADT because its well known. ADT is a good company they paved the way for other security companies, but they are outdated. Times have changed and Vivint has paved their own way they just made it a lot smoother.
Hey Steve thanks for the great reviews and videos! I have been watching many of them to learn more about smart homes because I'm trying to start a basic one. I currently have a ring doorbell, Alexa Echo 2015 and that's about it. I want to do 2 things. I want to get a basic smart home with smart lighting (I am considering Lutron Caseta) but also a monitored system. For the monitored system, I think the only thing that's important is that my smoke detectors (they're all interconnected) should call the police if they go off when I'm not home and the system is armed. I already have interconnected smoke detectors (5 in total, 3 in bedrooms) but they're not smart. I also want to get door opening and closing sensors, as well as motion detection that should call the monitoring station in case of emergency when the system is armed and I'm not home. Not sure which system I should be considering. Also FYI, my wife and I have iPhones and like the Apple infrastructure. Any advice?
