And as a Patriots fan, it was sad to see how much of a shell he was in 2020. Not nearly as much impact on the game couldn’t throw for shit. Slower runner.😞 but was my favorite non patriot so at least he got to play on my team
the sad thing about Cam is in his 2021 comeback I remember one specific play. It was his big return game, he had a phenomenal rushing TD in the redzone where he hit the edge, broke tackles, and crossed the plane. It was clear that he was still an athletic guy who could get it done with his legs, but his arm was a shell of what it once was and he simply couldn't throw accurately anymore after his injury and surgery. If Cam never had that shoulder injury I think he would still be playing at a high level today
As a Cam stan, thank you Barry. I was born and raised in Charlotte and remember watchin Cam get drafted, so I’m biased but I do think the Good far outweighs the bad when talking about Cam’s career. Is there a lot to be desired? Of course. But I think a lot of QBs would kill to have his records, achievements and accolades.
@@tomretallick9620 I'm surprised Barry never mentioned how bad his supporting cast was. Outside of Greg Olsen, he never had consistently great receiving help
As a massive Panthers fan, this was a fun, yet bittersweet trip down memory lane. Cam Newton is one of my favorite athletes of all time and witnessing his prime week to week was magical. All of that being said, Cam was a quarterback with clear flaws. He wasn’t very accurately, he made questionable decisions often resulting in turnovers, and took a lot of sacks. In the end, Cam’s careers feels like a massive what if and one that ended much sooner than it should, but he’s a major reason why I love the game of football and put my favorite team on a national stage and for that he will always have my respect. At least it was fun while it lasted. Great Video as always, Barry. 💙🖤
Me, a Panthers fan, seeing Barry make an hour long vid on Cam: "Alright, let's do this!" All jokes aside, this videos was well-put and gave me a bittersweet ride of nostalgia. Well done, Barry. As for Cam, despite his shortcomings, he truly was a breath of fresh air for my team after our dismal 2010 season. My only wish is that the front office had put more effort into giving him some better protection and suitable weapons.
When Cam was healthy and in his bag, he was really fun to watch. As a sports fan from North Carolina I’m glad he was our quarterback. When they ran the ball well and the defense was clicking they were competitive. Other than Cam diving on that loose ball in the Superbowl I couldn’t really ask for more as a fan. Great vid, Barry. Thanks Cam Newton 🫡
One thing to note about Cam, even though his play was inconsistent, EVERYONE in the Charlotte area knows who he is and adores him. When he came back in 2021 for the Washington game, the city was buzzing and it was a weeklong event. I'll always be nostalgic for the 2015 year which got me into football.
My wife’s boyfriend put this video on for me to keep me entertained while they went out for the night. Thank you Barry for blessing us with your dulcet tones for over an hour!
As a panthers fan, the 2015 panthers team was legit incredible. I also remember that the OL had actually been shit all year but cam made it look like it didn’t matter. I watched that NFC championship game just thinking there was no way we would lose in the SB. Oh well. The panthers are now doomed to live in pain for the rest of eternity.

i think his peak is a top 5-10 peaks. having the running threat of prime vick and throwing ability of brett favre but aswell having the 6’5 frame made him unstoppable. he took philly brown, ted ginn, and devin funchess to the super bowl.
@tomretallick9620 if he had a real offensive mind, that's more into completion % and not worrying about the old school schemes that Schula was giving him, he probably would've been selected to more pro bowls and would've had every season with over a 60 completion percentage.
@@4392amtrak the scheme wasn't great, but in Shula's defense he did pretty good with the weapons he had. There were no short yardage YAC guys in between Steve Smith and CMC. All that offense had were deep threats, a posession TE and power running. The combo of Cam and Stewart running with play action deep shots was probably their best option. I blame Dave Gettleman, who cut Steve Smith, drafted Kelvin Benjamin over Davante Adams and Devin Funchess over Jarvis Landry
Realistically, if he played more mature and carried himself better off the field, he could still be playing, and honestly should be. Also Panthers fan here. Excellent analysis in my opinion, especially the ultimate conclusion. No one knows how Cam's career would have unfolded if TJ Watt hasn't hit him dirty in 2018 (and of course it drew no penalty, but I digress). And yes, he was returning to his MVP self that season, you're the first person I see remember that. So, in conclusion, Cam's story is, sadly, much more a tale of what could have been than of what really was. Also, I believe some of his talent was wasted under Rivera, he's not an offesive-minded coach and kind of outdated IMO - and he and his coaching staff are the main ones to blame for the negligence to nurse Cam's injury properly and consequently for his poor health in the end of his career
And don't forget about Mike Shula. His playbook was more of an old school approach, which wasn't check down friendly. What that system was mainly about was the deep ball. Cam didn't have a rb to throw short passes to until McCaffrey came, and even with him there, Shula was still the OC. As a panthers fan, super fair final verdict and I appreciated your comments about his impact and the overblowing of his not diving on the football. Agreed, not hall of fame level but near that bottom of high tier level like Philip Rivers. Only two points I’d counter: 1) Him only having three winning seasons doesn’t mean he wasn’t a winner. If you look at his third season (when QBs typically finish the development phase) to when he got injured in 2018, he had 3 winning seasons, 2 losing seasons, and 1 season that started winning by a sizable margin, only for him to receive an injury he ended up playing through that essentially killed his whole career. Anything after 2018 I don’t even count. Dude was never able to come back from that one. So in the seasons he really was Cam, his season win/loss totals were 3.5 wins to 2 losses. Pretty solid. 2) Have to disagree with your stance that his running TDs being short yardage lowers its impressiveness and that if some of the other great running QBs had more goal to go running touches they could’ve shown similar numbers. If they could have, they would have. But they didn’t, because they couldn’t. Their skillsets benefitted middle of the field plays where the defenses were more spread out and they could use their quickness to run past players. What made cam such an elite runner was his power and ability to run through players in the more cramped areas of the field. The way he gets into the end zone doesn’t make the frequency he got into the end zone any less impressive to me. Great vid Barry. Thanks for taking the time to dive so deeply into the career of the football player that made the most impact on my life and on the lives of those in my city.
Might be the best video you have done, and that is saying a lot. I have a suggestion for future videos. What if you did some on legendary defenses or offenses to see if they are overrated or underrated? Like the "legion of boom" or the "greatest show on turf"?
Thanks for this video Barry, as a Panthers fan seeing you make an hour long piece on the QB I grew up watching was a welcome surprise. While I watched every game I was too young to look at Cam's rushing TD numbers beyond what they were and you make a interesting point about him taking those from RB's. While he wasn't dominant I think his injuries really screwed him especially 2016 and 2017, but hey that's the NFL. As a long-time defender of his I actually 100% agreed with the ranking you gave him at the end as far as who you compared him to- I don't think he was dominant but he made good memories and especially growing up watching someone play with so much joy was awesome even in the losses. Thank you Barry and thank you Cam for everything :)
Cam was "dominant" for one season, where he was legitimately dominant during his MVP year (besides the Super Bowl). Outside of that, I would say he was merely good for a few years, a top 10 level QB, with 2015 being an aberration.
Let us also remember, Cam really never had a number 1 reciever. Steve Smith was that guy, but he left after 2013, and he was old by the time Cam got there anyway. His best WRs during the SB run were Ted Gunn Jr and Devin Funchess. Kelvin Benjamin was a one year wonder. The only consistent weapons he ever had were Greg Olsen, and whoever was at running back, CMC or Williams or Stewart
During Rodgers' prime, who was his #1 wide receiver? Jordy Nelson? Who was Brady's number one wide receiver during his 4 in 5 year super bowl run? Edelman? Danny Amendola? Gronk (not a receiver)?
Granted I'm sure you could argue that Julian Edelman is a better receiver than Ted Ginn Jr., but dropping the "they never had a No. 1 receiver" kind of breaks down when you look at your Drew Brees / Aaron Rodgers / Tom Brady who never really had a dominant WR1 option either in their prime (with rare one season exceptions, maybe)
I do think you need to mention that Cam never had a great supporting cast like alot of the guys you mentioned so let’s take into account who was blocking for him and who was catching his passes over the years
Let's go down the list , since he forgot 1. Ted ginn 2. Crotchety 3. Devin " I GOT CRAMPS " funchess 4. Kevin " I BIG BONEDED" Benjamin 5. Kelin klay 6. Russle sheppard All of those recivers were third / 4th string practice squad recivers cam carried in parts of his career , prime steve Smith ( Reciver ) & Greg Olsen ( TE ) were the ONLY reliable catchers cam EVER had as a QB : DJ solid , but during his rookie year ? He kept dropping the ball but still managed to be solid , even after cams departure but yea : Cam got HOED Big time , and is now blackballed from the leauge for good .
@@TheDON914 yeah lol and let’s not mention the ones from that one year in NE, Panthers brass never did Cam many favors over the years at WR and OL once Gross and Smith went. And to be fair Cam really didn’t have Smith long or at his best. If Cam had a great Oline or at least one great WR during his prime that would’ve made a big difference in my opinion
@camarapeople11 he almost beat the Saints in the playoffs with practice squad receivers and with Greg Olsen with a bad foot and a rookie C-Mac being his only two great receivers that game
“Cam threw an interception” *shows footage of cam hitting his receiver square in the hands only to have the ball bounce 10 feet in the air causing the pick* Ah yes, I almost forgot what it felt like being a panthers fan in the era when our qb exclusively threw to wrs who played with cement gloves
THANK YOU!! Plus there a so many clips in here where the WR's attempt at a jump ball is just straight up pathetic. Looking back, I have no clue how Cam carried the offense for that long
His last full season (with the Pats) was during the Covid season… throwing to a bunch of WR3s like Nkeal Harry. He was never really given a fair chance in NE.
And that's was the reason why Brady left. No matter who the qb was, even if it was Brady, I still don't think they would've made the playoffs, especially with some players dropping out that year.
Hey Barry, Could you do a video on Carson Palmer? I think he was very undrated for his career, health, and bad organizations and not having the best supporting cast had limited him. I believe he's like top 15 in passing yards and passing touchdowns. I think these stats easily could have been higher if not for the prior reasons. I also think he was kinds snubbed for an MVP in 2015, as he lead or was top 5 in several passing categories.
This is good, keep this one coming, I can already imagine how much hours it would take if you had Rodgers, Montana and most of all if you want is brady, have a video on their own, including the Steeler leader of men Rothlisberger as well and more legends to come.
I’m a saints fan and there’s never been another player on a division rivals team that I genuinely wanted to succeed every time I watched him. His off the field swagger, the super cam celebrations, his play style. Cam brought something to the league that was next level. He brought the fun

As a panthers fan, super fair final verdict and I appreciated your comments about his impact and the overblowing of his not diving on the football. Agreed, not hall of fame level but near that bottom of high tier level like Philip Rivers.
Only two points I’d counter:
1) Him only having three winning seasons doesn’t mean he wasn’t a winner.
1 hour of Barry Content
Barry just might be da chosen one
Thought it was gonna be a short video. Saw it was an hour long and creamed my pants. Thank you Mr. McCockiner
By far my favorite format of Barry videos would hate to see this go away
Cam is maybe the most influential player in modern NFL history.
Cam was "dominant" for one season, where he was legitimately dominant during his MVP year (besides the Super Bowl). Outside of that, I would say he was merely good for a few years, a top 10 level QB, with 2015 being an aberration.
Only five minutes in and the words “clutch Matt Ryan” were just uttered. Absolutely bewildered.
Cam is so underrated his running ability is top 3 with cam Lamar Jackson and then Vick
Barry I was suppose to go to my wifes boyfriends funeral today; but this video inspired me to stay home and watch this on repeat instead
So happy you mentioned Greg Olson being a rapper lmao. G-Regg baby
I see what you did there at 9:56 Barry…good deal sir. 😎👍🏼
Man, I never like videos, but just from all the effort you put into this deserves a like!
He was phenomenal. The Panthers ran him into the ground. He should be enjoying the twilight of his career with a chance for another deep playoff run.
If the league did more to protect Cam, he probably would've won something
The league let him get battered and so did his GM. Terrible offensive lines year after year
Let us also remember, Cam really never had a number 1 reciever.
Dude.
Legendary.
this has already made my day and i haven't even watched it yet. You rule man
Barry this is awesome man can’t wait for the next one thanks for doing this
Dominant 250 total touchdowns in your first 8 years as a starter is no joke
Great and well made video! I really enjoyed watching!
I can tell you like Star Wars from the ending of the video :)
I do think you need to mention that Cam never had a great supporting cast like alot of the guys you mentioned so let’s take into account who was blocking for him and who was catching his passes over the years
💯
Let's go down the list , since he forgot
1. Ted ginn
2. Crotchety
3. Devin " I GOT CRAMPS " funchess
4. Kevin " I BIG BONEDED" Benjamin
5. Kelin klay
6. Russle sheppard
All of those recivers were third / 4th string practice squad recivers cam carried in parts of his career , prime steve Smith ( Reciver ) & Greg Olsen ( TE ) were the ONLY reliable catchers cam EVER had as a QB : DJ solid , but during his rookie year ? He kept dropping the ball but still managed to be solid , even after cams departure but yea : Cam got HOED Big time , and is now blackballed from the leauge for good .
@@TheDON914 you forgot Philly Brown the GOAT!!
“Cam threw an interception”
*shows footage of cam hitting his receiver square in the hands only to have the ball bounce 10 feet in the air causing the pick*
Ah yes, I almost forgot what it felt like being a panthers fan in the era when our qb exclusively threw to wrs who played with cement gloves
THANK YOU!! Plus there a so many clips in here where the WR's attempt at a jump ball is just straight up pathetic. Looking back, I have no clue how Cam carried the offense for that long
Just discovered your channel, this is amazing content thank you.
Please do mike Vick next during his prime years he was amazing on the ground and decent in the air
WOW! A one hour Barry video! Im excited to watch!
Was not expecting a hour one vid but I'm here for it
Awesome video Barry. Watched the whole thing
U sneaking in brandi love I freaking love it😂@10:04
This is the funniest video I've ever seen. Barry McCockiner is the greatest UA-camR EVER!
Barry with this marathon of a video? What a national hero, and an amazing class-act
The only youtuber who i would dedicate a hour to watch, and enjoy. Great video, and great presentation
Stepping up the production game!! Great shit Barry
Nah he is boring
Lamar Jackson HIGHLIGHTS!
Barry you've outdone yourself. Excellent vid with a fantastic ending.
a one hour Barry video? LETS GO!
Please do more of these they're great, thanks Barry (hero)
A 1 hour Barry vid with that sultry summer sun that is his voice? I'm in.
Just found this channel recently and been binge watching all your content
The amount of research and time that goes into these videos is probably crazy 😂 love the channel bro
Lol omg an hour long!!! Props for the work you put in for this one. I'm gonna have to come back on a rain day with some popcorn
Nailed basically all of this on the head. Also Griffey Jr video when bro please it's the off-season
These career breakdowns are your best work!
Criminally Underrated & Dominant
This video is four hours long. I love it!
Woooooahh, Barry making a push to being taken more seriously, excited to get into this!
I’m 100% all for long form videos by Barry.
“Offensive lineman kelvin Benjamin”- favorite joke so far
Glad to see these quarterback career videos back
I got my popcorn ready. Thank you Barry you beautiful man!!!
