    This "young" country is older than 1000 years, first as a Duchy, then Kingdom and then Republic. Actualy Czech Republic has one of the oldest almost unchanged borders in Europe.😉

    Otherwise, Prague has more than 100 theaters. if you want to taste real Czech pastries instead of trdelník, try traditional Czech koláče. The most traditional ones are with quark, poppy seeds or povidla. Or gingerbread also belongs to us, but in the form of a koláč or a buchty. We have many kinds of them. Yes, Kafka can be seen a lot in Prague, because he is known even beyond the borders, but in truth the Czechs themselves do not eat Kafka that much, we prefer Werich, Neruda, Čapek, Hrubín, Němcová, Erben... By the way, that changing statue of Kafka is the work of Černý, whose babies on the Žižkov Tower, butterflies on Máj, babies on Kampa, peeing patriots on the Republic at the Kafka Museum and others are also there. He is the most visible contemporary sculptor who can be seen in Prague. Not always received with enthusiasm here. And the girl at the end was definitely not Czech with the sign on Staromák. So you already know about Budapest.

    I was in Prague in the 1970's when it was still under the Soviet thumb. It was gray, dismal, no cafes or decent restaurants and Soviet soldiers everywhere, standing around with weapons. The hull of the burned out Soviet tank from the 1968 uprising was still in Wenceslaus Square. I thought "If they can kick these Russians out, this would an awesome city". Eventually, they did. When I went back in Christmas 2000 I was thrilled to see that Prague had fulfilled my dreams. It wasn't as overrun with tourists as it is now, however. Digital stuff was in its infancy and nobody was disappointed to see the clock tower work.

    • @AdriLaivaeDosi
      @AdriLaivaeDosi 2 дні тому

      @@ridewithgabi Mind you, we have never been in the thrall of Russia, as such. It was more complicated. They entered here in 1968, as part of the occupation, but also left. We have always been an independent state. And we certainly weren't in the same situation as other countries... that's why they poured 68 here, because we lived very freely and not under much influence. There was a lynching here under communism, but it was different, it's specific, try reading Marquez's 90 days behind the curtain, it pretty much sums up the differences in the regions as he passed through them.

    • @afiiik1
      @afiiik1 День тому

      There are so many western "progressives" (communists) who refuse to believe me when I say the Czech lands were a grim grey dirty place under Russian occupation. It wasn't just one house or just one neighbourhood, it was the whole country. Russians stole what they could and ruined what they couldn't.

    I’m glad you enjoyed it here. As a local I just want to clarify some of things that you said. The astronomical clock are a replica of the original ones. Trdelnik is not czech and it’s not even traditional. I’ve had a few in my life, it’s not bad don’t get me wrong, but it’s not traditional, not czech, only overpriced thing to sell. Goulash is not czech as well, it’s popular here but not the most and it’s originally hungarian dish.

    • @AdriLaivaeDosi
      @AdriLaivaeDosi 2 дні тому +1

      @@ridewithgabi Again, complicated history. There were times when the Czech Kingdom and later Austria-Hungary reached the sea. So there were Germans, Italians, Croats, Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians, Moldavians and maybe even Bulgarians... Well, they didn't sit in one place. A lot of them got to the places where Hungary is today and there were waves of migration, when those from Hungary got to Slovakia and a famous bakery was established around Skalica... and since we were connected later and things are really changing on those borders, it also turned over to the Moravian side. So to this day, everyone can argue who actually invented it, kind of like what came first, the chicken or the egg. However... Skalický trdelník, which also has a trademark and is marked as original, tastes about something completely different from the crap you can find in Krakow, Vienna, Budapest and god knows where else. It's a scam on tourists, just like those marijuana shops, and beware, they're usually not even run by Czechs.
