I first saw the Matterhorn when I was 8 yrs old, watching the Disney movie "Third Man on the Mountain." I'm now 70 and it saddens me that in all these years I've never made the attempt to go there and do this. It's so great that all of you have! Perhaps in another life I'll be able to give it a go?
I walked up to the Hörnli Hut two years ago when I was 50. With no significant training whatsoever. It's quite do-able. Make sure you have enough to drink and eat small bites at regular intervals. I forgot to eat and was completely drained of energy about 10 minutes below the hut. Sour jellybeans gave me the energy rush needed to complete the hike. Had a great meal once inside the hut! On the hike up I passed a group of quite elderly Japanese pensioners. At a guess I'd say the eldest were around 70/75 maybe even older. They were going at a slower but quite steady pace and only arrived about 20 minutes after me! It can be done Thomas, even at your age, go for it!!
I've always been amazed at all the broken slivers of rocks, scree?, as you go higher and higher. And when you see mountains like the Matterhorn from a distance, it looks like one chunk of rock, but when you see videos of it close-up, it's millions upon millions of car-sized and truck-sized chunks of rock.
After watching this wonderful video twice, I have a couple suggestions: 1. Show us where you actually began your hike -Zermatt? 2. Include more footage, please. I would have liked to put trails together with footage of the mountain as you got closer and closer to the hut.
I must have watched your video 7 or 8 times. I try to fill in the gaps where you've edited it, and imagine what is where and how far. Thanks for making it.
Question, please... The video begins at Schwarzsee Lake. But the next scene is considerably higher with a lot of loose rocks all around. I would have liked to have seen the interim scenes that led from the lake up yo the rocky path. How much further did they have to walk btw the two scenes?
Thank you, A real inspiration and very helpful . I really want to do this hike as soon as the travel opens up and covid will allow. I've been trying to visualize the track and the heights of the drop offs that you encountered. I live in Australia and your video and Google Earth have been a great help. I have been to Zermatt with some dear Swiss friends and look forward to this new experience hopefully with them and my son. Any additional helpful info would be great to help me plan. Thank you again. Regards Paul
the go pro and the distortion of its lense makes it look like steeper than what is it. I read it was a difficult (red line) hike, but I was amazed at how easy it was though! I even had an injured leg (I looked like a cripple) and I must say it was easier than anything else I've done in Switzerland. beautiful videos though! next time I wanna try to climb a bit the matterhorn :D
Currently planning a trip to Switzerland. Thank you for this! I am scared of hiking cause the last time I tried a 7 hours walk/hike, I ended up really struggling along the way. Will it be a mostly uphill climb for 3 hours on the way to the hut?
The trail is open but there is a lot of snow... You need crampons to make it a lot easier 😊 I did it late June and my boots were full of water at the end of it.. July August is the recommended time to do it
What time of the year did you do this hike? I plan to do the same hike in the first week of this coming July. Do you think there still will be too much snow to attempt the hike?
Suggestion: Next time you do this walk, please... Make the video continuous without any editing or interruptions. I'd like to see the entire hike from Zermatt town-limits all the way to Hornli Hut. Thanks.
This kind of beauty requires no background music...well done!
..Merci beaucoup Markku...Tu me faire rêves..Très belle vidéo..Que Dieu vous bénis..
Thanks for making the climb for me. Saves me a fortune in air fare, equipment, etc. That trail seems a little skimpy in spots.
Выше гор могут быть только горы!!! А человек, покоривший их, выше, чем человек!!!👍👍👍

You shouldn't give up on your dreams! Theres a 70 yr old guy who climbed some of the 8000 meter peaks in the past 5 years
What a waste of a life!
I'll be sure to climb it young...

I am soooo impressed. If I could do this I would. A dream for me. No joints left I'm afraid. Very excited for you.

❤
Wow...such a great hike. Thank you for sharing this!
M. V. H. Tubize J'ai vraiment revécu ce trajet que j'ai fais trois fois. Félicitation pour la prise de vue.😊
Thanks a lot for this video. Very informative. Gives a good impression of the hike.
The best video about Hornli trail
Danke für das Video, ich kann leider nicht mehr Bergsteigen und an das Matterhorn hätte ich mich auch nie gewagt. Ein wunderschöner Berg, mächtig.
Very nice coverage, thank you! I've put this hike on my list!
Beautiful video. Thank you.

get a cable car from Zermatt to Schwarzsee you can see the hotel from the areas around the cable car station. Google maps is prob your best bet
I hiked to the railing but it was to windy to continue. I loved this place thank you for great video

Nice atmospheric video.. Cool vibe
Je me suis abonné à votre chaîne. Sébastien
Great video. I was there but had to abort midway due to heavy rain and extreme wind. Next year I guess.
What time of year you did this
I hate heights. But it looks to be a beautiful climb. I'd like to give it a try someday to see how far/high I can go.

I never would have thought it was only a 20 minute hike to the hut. Much easier than I thought
They cut out a lot, it's 2hrs

Think I could manage that far but no more than that beautiful
even this nice hike is too extreme for me. really afraid of heights
When you started this trip? In Zermatt?
Tämä oli mielenkiintoinen sikälikin, että nyt suomalaiset tekivät retken ja oli kuvattu myös tuo matka majalle, mitä ei yleensä näytetä.
At time 12:20, is that that guy's heart we hear beating?
Very good idea like live slowly motion. But, I don´t know why the camery man is not in a first position.

I want to go to the fantastic course, Matehorn trekking video!

You must have taken video of the entire hike, without any editing. Can you please submit the entire video?
Great video!
Did you start from Schwarzsee? Ifso, how long is the hike to the hut (and back)?
there and back took us about 5:30 hours
Beautiful. Listening with headphones- is that your heartbeat :) ?
Ah, yeah! Matterhorn!
Where is your helmet?

Fantastic.
Very good! Can you tell me what the distance of the hike is? I'd like to do it this summer. Thanks!
From the top of the lift at the Schwarzsee to the Hornli Hut is approx 2.6 miles.
@@MrGolfGuy100 In Europe km are used, this is some 4,2 km.
is the trail to Hörnli Hut open in May?

Is it Schwarzsee down there? in the start of the video
Yes it will be visible at the very beginning of the video
What time of the year did you do this hike? I plan to do the same hike in the first week of this coming July. Do you think there still will be too much snow to attempt the hike?
We did this hike first week in july so its possible
Thanks for your reply
will do this trail next time
Is this path possible to hike in mid june or does the snow not usually melt enough by then?
it depends on the snow conditions, but the best time to go is from July to August
@@markku_hyvonen You seem to know quite a bit, is there a trail beyond the Hoenli Hut that goes to the top?
C est une rando assez facile.
좋은 경치
감사 합니다 .
Fantastique
Сууупппееерр😄😄😄😄
can I do this in mid november?
Ellen Tang it's not recommended. There could be a lot of snow up there and the hut is closed anyways
Thankyou

Bad example, never use stiks where is vertical rocks, you know what i mean.
😮
why there is no music?
No Sandstorm in mountainous area.
Sigh..

If he filmed this long enough you'd see them casually walking up to Matterhorn summit, silly sticks in hands, terrrrze and all. 🏔️
