@@613yechiyah I think the point is that you probably can't simply act as if the government doesn't exist. You can't not pay taxes. You can't argue against the government without knowing about it. You can't simply say "it's all bad" and every government agent and agency is equally troubling. For example, a Ron Paul Presidency would be preferable - but it would be based upon the fact that a significant portion of the population had been convinced by his ideas. You can't ignore the fact that so many children and young adults are being indoctrinated in government schools and colleges.

@Liberty Meister I'm pessimistic on the long term US outlook but on local and individual issues there is room for libertarian encroachment. The anti-war message for example is something the elites are tone deaf on.
The election is over so what are you all talking about? Do you know that more people voted in this election by far than 2016? Pennsylvania 781,000, Georgia 951,000, Wisconsin 453,800, Michigan 887,800 and Arizona 856,000. That's almost 4,000,000 new votes and very little increase in population. These states all had Trump with a large lead at the end of the night. So someone had to work hard overnight to make up the difference.
@Lewsob Chase Recounts are useless in a society where 80 million unrequested ballots were mailed out. So many discussions on Republican blogs about how one spouse, registered as a Dem, got four ballots, while the other spouse registered as a "R" was only sent one. **** But a forensic audit is crucial. Don't know if that is the route that is being taken.
Conservative minded people are rarely willing to waste their time in politics, especially when they're young, unless things have gotten really really bad.
When Jeff asked, "should we be political?", I had this memory of an old video I saw where a tax collector was confiscated an Amish farmer's horse and the farmer did nothing because his philosophy forbid him from resisting. Are libertarians philosophically incapable of doing anything significant to stop tyranny? Based on the campaign run by the LP this year, we can't. Where is the next Ron Paul? I can hope, but I'm not sure anybody qualifies.
The thing many libertarians refuse to get is that liberty is not some mana from the sky; you have to wrestle it out, sometimes violently, and then be willing to die for anything that threatens it.
Cops in Ohio specifically target Uber drivers because there’s less drunk drivers and they don’t get as many DUIs. They even tried to keep Uber out of Ohio according to a lawyer I met.
I don't think it matters. The power elite and their cronies remain as entrenched and untouchable as ever. On the other side of this, average, income-earning Americans will continue to grow poorer and more desperate even as they will continue to be incentivized to make economic choices between bad and worse due to myriad laws and regulation in taxation, zoning, transportation, energy, food production, interstate and international commerce and myriad other things that actually matter to them.
The last election wasn't sketchy like this one. Sucks how just challenging this election makes leftists think I'm a Trump stan and a black-person-hater..
That is all the Lefties have. They accuse anyone stating anything that their local Commie commissar hasn't stated is possible to say of being a White Supremacist. Notice all the Left wing memes. First it was the women's marches, as women were not being respected. Then there was the "Guns are evil." Then there was "Tear down the statues." Then "the immigrant caravan." Now it is the Lefties macing people who aren't wearing masks. Yet theirs is the party of peace, love and tolerance?
What an excellent panel! Like Daniel, I also had a twinge building up to this election after not voting since the last one and swearing then that I’d never cast another vote. I got tired of having the choice between the lesser of two evils and I’m now not looking back. I’m proud to say that I’m done with it.

Nice work guys. Rothbard's idealism has a place in political philosophy, but Mises' pragmatism as he presented in _Liberalism_ around an aspiration to a system that doesn't require angels to function, strikes me as a good move. That system is essentially the Classical Liberal system not too far from what the US founders envisioned. The focus is then on minimizing the state to a natural law legal system as much as possible, rather than being against it. A strong focus on state's rights (and therefore some real choice around matching the actual values of individuals to the laws they must live by) is, I think, a better focus than anarchism.
Totally agree. Ideal solution would be to transform the state by making taxes into voluntary donations and legally allow secession of smaller and smaller units.
@@JustinPavoni Mises wouldn't agree with that. He believed that taxes are needed at least for national defense so long as there are standing armies. Also for courts and police... the typical Liberal minarchist state. Voluntary taxes means either no army or free-rider problems. Nightwatchman state is the Liberal state, but this says nothing about additional laws that people may then voluntarily desire to live under via states' or local laws.
@@konberner170 yea I know ... apply Rothbard to the minarchist state and what we get is simply a minarchist state that allows you to opt in/out and is financed via voluntary means instead of taxes.
There's the hazard of true libertarianism. You cannot ignore the government. It won't ignore you.
There’s no way to ignore it, it’s a religion permeating everything.
