- Chavez Soliz demos the Melee: Wall of Noise at Walrus HQ in OKC, OK.
The Melee Wall is a distortion + reverb combo that unapologetically uses a joystick to meld reverb and distortion into one massive blaze of sound. With the flip of the order switch, run the distortion into the reverb or reverb into distortion; signal chain is your call now. For the explorer, the Melee can run one of three different reverb programs Ambient, Octave, and Reverse.

Walrus is really keeping my inner post-rock demon alive. Hell yeah
🙌
I am so glad I didn’t get a distortion pedal before watching this. What I love about it is its shoegaze practically in one pedal. And you can switch your style with the flip of a switch! Walrus Audio crushing it like always. Love you guys!
Thanks!!
Got my Melee 2 days ago. Knew I had to have it after watching Brett Kingman’s video. I haven’t been so inspired by a piece of gear in years, there are so many sounds available it’s jaw dropping.
Reached out to Walrus customer service yesterday to find out if the drive circuit is based on an existing pedal because it’s fantastic. Almost worth the price of the pedal by itself. Apparently it’s based on the Iron Horse, which I will also be purchasing.
Walrus, I think I love you. 😘
thank you!
Finally, a video of actual playing that suits this ridiculously immaculate pedal. wow! heart wrenching.
thanks, excellent demo
Thanks for the Stone Roses moments. Beautiful sound of lost youth.
Thank you for demoing it on a (what looked to be a Squier) Bass VI. That is exactly the instrument I had in mind with this pedal!
It is indeed a Bass VI! Thanks!
Nice choice. Me too.
Ok, this is just awesome. Bravo, Walrus.
Many thanks!
Wow!!! This is so sick exactly what I need. The pedal sounds like 🔥🔥🔥 and looks like 🔥🔥🔥
💛
I think I want this one and the Lore they just sound amazing ❤
wear a helmet with that combo cause you're going to space.
@@walrusaudioeffects if you don’t stop releasing these amazing pedals my wife is gonna leave me - recently bought the lore and this seems like a mandatory pairing
this handsome fella knew just what to play to get me to buy this pedal
Been a while since a pedal made me say wow. I want one! Will get one. 😳
thanks!
This sounds great. If I didn’t already put my Slo before dirt for this same reason, I’d definitely get this.
Which pedal do u use for dirt??
Ha, literally said the same thing. As cool as this new Melee pedal is, i bought their Slo pedal to specifically mix with distortion too, and it sounds incredible
Goddamn it sounds incredible! I need one
Sold!! Too surreal a moment when he swapped to the Bass IV as that's exactly what I play!
Sweet!
Love that you threw in some airbag
🙌
I'm late to the party on this but wow. This sounds awesome. Shoegaze in a single pedal = 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!!
Sure thing. Just ordered mine. Arrives tomorrow. Can’t wait!
daaaaaaaamn!
@walrusaudioeffects Thanks for this demo and congrats for this creative pedal. Would love a demo on bass guitar (not Bass VI) and also vocals, yes I think it could be interesting, unless you could point us to such demos ?
This thing sounds great, the distortion alone is mega nice. Two questions though:
(1) What about that sustain switch? Is it momentary only? Can you press it to freeze and de-freeze notes? Will the notes you play over the sustained ones be effected by the fx?
(2) Are you planning on putting out a different color scheme? e.g. grey background, black tree, orange/red flames? 😌
Thanks!
You can press once to latch. The notes played over the latched signal will then not be effected. Press again to release latch. Press and hold is what gets you the max decay sounds.
No alt colors/art planned at this time!
The Mac Daddy of the OKC.
Finally, a pedal where doing quarter-circles is viable.
Gotta try a spinning pile driver on this thing...
Where does something like this go on a pedalboard? I know the “anything can go anywhere” answer but if I have lots of modulation should I put it on the backend where time based effects normally go or with my ods and distortion?
I think I would start by trying it where I want my distortion in my pedal board and the reverb is a bonus flavor. Having said that, the reverb not being stand alone may want me to try this in front of a fuzz.
Dirt typically should be early in the chain. Reverb tends to go at the end but shoegazers/ambient players will stick reverbs anywhere.
I have 2 questions: if im using only reverb and I want to kick the distortion i will have to move the joystick while im playing? Also the joystick may be more vulnerable than just a simple knob? (could be easily broken) t think about long roads touring bands and stuff
Yup! And our Janus has two joysticks and has been out since 2012 with very few incident reports. If it does break, we'll fix it.
stone roses! sick.
Props for Airbag! What about the 2nd and the last tune (before the outro)?
I believe it's I Wanna Be Adored by The Stone Roses
Is it? Weird I didn't recognise it, gonna listen more closely
It alone sounds like a full pedalboard. Amazing tones!! just wish it looked as shoegaze as it sounds but oh well, you can't have it all!
Idk it looks pretty shoey and gazey
@@icecube7685 lol
Need to make a multifx with all these separates in it & sustain pedal to blend the reverb.
@walrusaudioeffects Is there a way to tighten up the joystick? Mine is so loose it has almost no resistance. Love the sound ♡
shoot an email to help@walrusaudio.com and we can help!
I just purchased this yesterday. I was originally goin for the Iron Horse but when I saw these demos about the melee I said I've had to have it. It is refreshing. So fun to use. Instead of the usual noodling and blues licks sometimes I just want to make some noise. I combined it with two of my stereo delays and reverbs and the sounds I make is like tremendous. And now I learned from one comment that the distortion was actually based on the Iron Horse. Is that true? I need some more Walrus pedals on my board.
Glad you're having fun with it! And yes, the distortion circuit is based on the Iron Horse!
came for the pedal, stayed for this will destroy you.
Which one
@@brokenhands6382 2nd song
@@horiyosi3309 thank you! I love the riffs for this demo. May I know what the title of the song is
@@brokenhands6382 Sure friend. Song is called "quiet" and it's from "young mountain" album.
@@horiyosi3309THANK YOU SO MUCH
Not too sure about the joystick though, as that would be the first thing to get damaged if the pedal is dropped or you step on it when going for the sustain switch as IF it can happen it eventually will.
Our pedal called Janus has two joysticks. It's been out since about 2012 and we've hardly had any reports them breaking from a stepping-on accident. And if such a thing did happen, we'll fix it.
@@walrusaudioeffects That is why I love you guy's and own an Aetos,Julia,ARP and an Ages. Was not trying to be negative OR bash at all as I love your products. Your customer service is second to none.
@@walrusaudioeffects awesome response, saw this at my local music store, I'm considering getting it now
What is the DSP + True Bypass setting? I thought it was one or the other.
This sounds amazing. But with the joy stick, is it inconvenient to throw on my pedalboard for live gigs? Seems like I'd be constantly hitting it on accident.
Treat it the same way you'd treat any other knob. We've had the Janus out which has two joysticks for over 10yrs and haven't had hardly any complaints about people hitting it during a set!
@@walrusaudioeffects thanks for the speedy reply! I'm sold
Hi. I just wanted to say, I got my Walrus Melee today and I really love it! It's so cool. I love the way the feedback builds and the intensity. I love the Slő kinda vibes too. That dark rise and fall.
The distortion so angry like a huge storm on the horizon.
I just wanted to ask though.
Where in the pedal chain would you place it.
I use the fx loop on my amp for reverb effects and the dirt I put in the front.
This pedal is both so?
Front or back?
I'm not sure!!🙃
Thanks! Glad you like it! There’s no wrong answer here, try both and see what you like more!
Can you turn off the distortion using the footswitch if you want to switch to clean?
Nope! It's intentionally a pedal that melds distortion and reverb. You can use the joystick to adjust the amount of gain and the amount of reverb mix!
My reverb distortion switch never moves from screwing up that distortion.
Found the melee
These pedals are 🤤🤤🥵🥵 just got a slow today... hadn't seen this yet. Still looking for an iron horse so 🤔
Thanks! Have fun with the Slo!
So this replaces my Janus into Slö into Eons configuration?
Now you tell me😅
Not entirely. Janus and Eons are both fuzz circuits. Melee is a distortion circuit!
When and where can you get these in the UK
Probably Andertons?
@@Aquired121 can't find it online anywhere
sneaky ovlov riff
Me : Finally, I have my pedalboard done. Two Walrus Audio on it are enough.
Walrus Audio : 😋

Actually me right now
💛💛
I feel you man
Holy shit is that This Will Destroy You for the first track?!
Someone help me… can’t remember what’s the riff played at 6.47… thx !
Cave in?
On second thought I think it’s radiohead
@@rtnrofficial4944 yesssssss thanks man !!
This thing is begging to be put after a long lazy loop that just drifts into oblivion
do it!
I just come here to see if Colt posts something funny. Walrus Audio products are first rate. Customer service is excellent.. to sum it all up their just magnificent bastards.
Thank you! ☺️
I just said no more pedals for me.
Welp.
💛
MBV!
Walrus knows what’s up…
thanks!
Dude...he busted out Soon but slower and filthier
Bravo
Why does the tone switch go from (left to right) Medium > Dark > Bright? The other switches go from low/light to high in order.
Decay: Minimum > Medium > Max
Mod: None > Slight > Max
Tone is the only one that doesn't follow the low to high order. Seems inconsistent and unnecessarily confusing.
Kind of sounds like thrice in a box
Interesting, but I hear almost no trebble, tha'ts a big issue...
Any way i could talk yall down on the price? LOL
man this sounds great but 355€ for a pedal... damn...
Caution! This pedal might draw whales... or walruses...
Heyyyyy it sounds like a Fuzzzzzz not like a Dist.!!!
Eyyy suena a Fuzzzzzzzz no a disto!
O man my wallet is scared
Me: I DO NOT need this pedal
My almost 45 years of complete irresponsibility: pffff it's just a pedal... It's not like you're buying another guitar, or an amp, or a car... Just get one already! You can always sell it later on...
We're all too familiar with that train of thought. 🙂
I can't believe y'all made _another_ reverb pedal with only mono I/O. How does a company so fixated with big echos have so few stereo pedals?! I love my 385 and Julianna, but at this rate my delay and reverb needs will have to carry on being fulfilled by other manufacturers. A particular shame in this case because I love a distorted reverb.
At least you put side jacks on this one, which is a small step forward.
If you want stereo reverb and delay options from walrus you should check out the Mako R1 and D1!
If you're after a distorted reverb with stereo capability, check out the Old Blood Noise Endeavours Screen Violence. The 'reverb' is a bit more wacky than ambient but it can do ambient very well
I feel you man… that is the ONE problem i see with this box… sounds great, but i run stereo effects. I assume the mono reverb would sound flat with everything else i got going on.
the simplifier dlx is a D/I box but it has some really good distortion and reverb. The reverb is limited to 3 types and a mix knob but sounds amazing.
Radiohead
shoegaze pedal and no vibrato arm in demo
I love the look of this pedal, just not a huge fan of the sound.
This is BAD to the BONE !!!!
No stereo, no expression/aux control, no midi - this seems like it's just an FV-1 chip with a joystick attached to the mix and a rat thrown in on an order switch. Why the hell is this $300, it's a less capable Screen Violence for $20 more??
Seems like its more capable in some ways and less capable in others no? I think your user name honestly explains a lot.
I wouldn't expect MIDI, but no stereo or expression jack certainly is bizarre.
@@aceflibble the only reason I would expect midi is the Mako D1 by them has it. At this price point, having NONE of those is absolutely bizarre. They’re marketing the pedal at shoegaze/gaze genres, which are known for multi amp/stereo setups.
@@DontTouchMePlz I disagree that it's more capable in some ways - the only thing it has that SV doesn't is Sustain. Every thing else can be 100% done with the Screen Violence by flipping one of the toggles. Lacking Stereo and Expression is HUGE if you're going to market this towards gaze players
stop harshin' the vibe dude
I didn’t like it.
Thanks!
@@walrusaudioeffects lol
Terrible commercial. Show the product being used, not some guy playing a guitar.
It’s hardly a commercial. This is an instructional video to show people how to use the pedal. We have two full band vids showing the pedal in context you can check out.
