- Dowels / wooden rods are great for connecting wood together. But what are the different ways to do it? What kind of jigs would be useful to have on hand and can you make them yourselves?

Love this book! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!
I like how you reinvented dowel centers!
I also saw John Heinz has a trick using masking tape and a punch awl to transfer hole positions to the other piece.
Nice video. You showed the factory made jigs, and a shop made version. Thank you Ms. Linn
Excellent tips indeed, Linn! Thanks a bunch! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks lady, worth all the effort
Awesome video. I’m a beginner and this was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!
Dowels are pretty strong but can definitely bite you if there is any inaccuracy in the layout. Also, those dowels should be fluted or grooved so that the hydraulic pressure of glue in a hole doesn’t block complete insertion of the dowel causing an inability to close the joint.
If you know so much, why bother watching?
@@snausagesmcqueef1604 so let me get your drift……. Comments should not be constructive…..they should only be snarky like yours right? You must hang out on websites so you can snipe at folks….
@@fredpierce6097 apparently you're not open to unsolicited constructive feedback yourself. I wonder why you expect others to be?
Thanks for the advice, I was wondering if I really needed to get hold of fluted dowels as I haven't found somewhere that sells them near me in rural Kenya. Good to know it's probably worth the effort to get them.
@@snausagesmcqueef1604 lol why not? 😂
Very timely - I need to put together a small table and I was thinking dowels would be much faster than mortise and tenon. Thanks, Linn.
I find this fascinating thank you for sharing❤
Home brew dowel point centers. I love it.
Been down these highways.... never really happy with the result. If making your own Jig... it is essential (I think) to be drilling into the exact centre of the wood. That way the same jig can safely be used for both set of holes.
Exactly symmetrical is also important..... that way you don't have to worry about which side is which. Also exactly perpendicular. Everything fits perfectly regardless.
Least that is what I aim for....
The trick with the sticky tape... as others have said.... is the bomb though.
Also glad to see u making content again..and I STILL have and use the mallet I bought from ur store back in 2016? 2017? It's the only mallet I've had since buying it still works GREAT TOO! just wanted to tell u that:)
Hi Joe, glad to hear from you. I've been making videos the whole time though, never stopped. Thanks for watching!
Great Job Thankyou
I have the rockler dowel jig and pretty much every other dowel jog out there take my time and the boards NEVER line up right idk why! But it drives me crazy!
Or just buy a Triton dowelling machine 😂
For finer/smaller dowels I use the plugs or a plastic centre finder jig, depending on the material and thickness.
For 8/10/12mm dowels (Triton doweler) in 12mm or thicker material, that is the machine and just like a biscuit joiner/or domino comes into its own.
Nice explanation on various methods though, and those dowel plugs do save time/effort when you need things to flow and timed
Min första tanke när du sa rundstav, så tänkte jag. har hon sett på Ernst Kirschsteiger? 😂
Dowelmax!
The price is obscene though.
And you mentioned metal guide bushings... really necessary for a reusable jig unless you have a very hard wood.
And there's no chance of me drilling holes straight without a machine or a drill guide at minimum.
Super but you forgot the versatile tape which is the easiest of all.
🙂
