This was a very cheesy depiction of a drug problem in a family. Show is full of extremely obvious, eye-rolling statements. Their dialogue is on the level of cheesiness that you should only find in a children's show with stuffed animal characters.
Will was so good in this scene, but also, the way uncle Phil instantly forgives and consoles Will after he stops making excuses and owned up to his mistake. That hug told a thousand words.
RIP James Avery. This was a show that I grew up on. Probably one of the shows my parents actually let me watch because it held a moral compass. There was always a positive message in every TV show back then.
The writing and casting for this show was amazing. It could be silly and fun, but it could also be thought-provoking and serious. The writers knew how to balance that out and the actors executed it to perfection. This is why TV was so good in the 90s. It was a little more grown up than Full House and Family Matters, but they were all very good at producing family-friendly content that could make you laugh, cry, and everything in between together. TV now is so divisive. It’s either adult-oriented or kid-oriented, with not much overlap, so families are less inclined to watch together.
If only we could all have a father like that. Doesn't matter what color you are, having a garbage or absent father messes you up. This show gave a lot of us a glimpse at something we never had but always needed.
@James Hagan that still cool as hell but that makes more sense. Alfonso has more of a recognizable voice but shredder did have a raspy voice so it would be hard to detect.... I'm gonna YT some clips and see if I can hear it. I used to watch TMNT everyday after school!
James Avery was a giant among men; whether on stage, screen or television. An inspiration to many; and a legend never to be forgotten. RIP: James Avery
How many of us young men would have turned out better if we had a human father who showed half of the love uncle Phil's character showed. But we all have a heavenly father who will forgive us with open arms if we truly turn our life around and listen to him
The best part is that while WILLIAM Smith and Carlton are bickering cousins that love each other like brothers, WILLARD Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro are just as close as brothers in real life.
This was a scene to bring tears to your eyes but there's no scene on comedy shows in history that can top the scene of WILL's father walkin away from him because im sure alot of people can relate
This shows the love between both characters- where Carlton was willing to let it go and violate all that he stands for in terms of following the rules. And Will showing he has HONOR rejected the tickets knowing he didn’t deserve them and coming clean and telling uncle Phil the truth. When he breaks down he is genuine in his hurting of his mistake. This show is BRILLIANT in its lesson delivery- just BRILLIANT
When Uncle Phil snaps and says “well you did. You hurt him, AND YOU COULD HAVE HURT YOURSELF!” Got me, because that’s how I knew his lecture was coming from love, imagining your nephew or son, getting hurt is always a worrisome experience for any parent.
I remember this episode from long ago as if it were yesterday. Great moment on the show and I agree that Uncle Phil is one of the best characters. Someone said he expects accountability and also provides forgiveness and support and that whats makes him one of my favorites as well.
I'm blown away by James Avery's range. Wrath of God one minute, forgiving the next. That's not easy to pull off. I'll pour one out for him. RIP Mr. Avery, you were gone too soon.
The courage it would take to even ADMIT this, when he was given the chance to let it be hidden forever. THAT is strength of character. THAT is integrity.
I can't think of another show that mixed levity with serious issues as well, and as seamlessly as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That's a credit to great writing and acting.
This show basically raised my siblings and I, or influenced us a lot. Coming from a southeast Asian family, with parents adapting to this new world.. it helped a lot with things our parents didnt know about.
This makes me cry along with the other famous episode when Will's dad came back into his life, and then he left Will again. Uncle Phil was Will's real and true dad
This show hit different when you become a parent and can relate to how it feels to be a parent, but you also remember what it felt like to be a teenager.
An incredible scene-brilliant acting from everyone. I love how, in the second part, Ashley, Carlton, and especially Hilary react without saying a word. Karyn Parsons (Hilary) is ordinarily a ditz, but she looks FURIOUS when she hears what happened, and, in the final moment, quietly puts her hand on Alfonso Riberio’s back to console him. The entire ensemble was beyond amazing-one of the best TV families ever.
I was thinking the same thing about Hillary. She looks like she wants to yell at Will for ending her brother up in the hospital. Never ever seen Hillary angry in the whole series
Uncle Phil is the father some of us never had. He was ready to be hard when the situation called for it, but never failed to give support, and most importantly, to teach by example.
Yup definitely this episode and when Uncle Lou comes in always pulled the trigger tears when I first saw it I swear Ben Vereen wasn’t acting either he just did it 🥺
Yup. Anytime I get writer’s block, I pull up this scene and “How come he don’t want me, man?” just to get into a specific emotional space. Hits every time, so good…
I get why Uncle Phil is upset, but it’s a bit fucked up to lay the blame solely on Will. Carlton went into his locker and took something without fully understanding what it was.
Will said that when he started acting, Denzel Washington hook him aside and asked him "Are you a rapper or an actor, you can't be both. "Will said Denzel was talking about serious actors like were concerned that rappers were getting into acting and not taking it serious and playing just themselves on the screen. Will said he decided to get serious about acting, and you can see it in this scene.

Will Killed This! You can feel the emotion and see the tears falling.
He almost killed Carlton, too.
Bro air review ua-cam.com/video/zlIsijM2HsE/v-deo.html
He’s a great actor!
@@YoureBad42069 lol true.
Will smith's best acting was on the fresh prince
Sometimes I don’t feel like this show was scripted it was that darn real. We don’t have shows like this no more 😢
even though I wasn't born in this time it's still a good show
I learned more from this show
This was a very cheesy depiction of a drug problem in a family. Show is full of extremely obvious, eye-rolling statements. Their dialogue is on the level of cheesiness that you should only find in a children's show with stuffed animal characters.
Facts
The youtube algorithm is trolling at this point
I saw this as a child and it had me crying, now here I am as an adult and I still tear up at this. Powerful moment.
Will was so good in this scene, but also, the way uncle Phil instantly forgives and consoles Will after he stops making excuses and owned up to his mistake. That hug told a thousand words.
Yessss it did
RIP James Avery. This was a show that I grew up on. Probably one of the shows my parents actually let me watch because it held a moral compass. There was always a positive message in every TV show back then.
Totally agree
I grew up with the Fresh Prince too, fond memories watching this show with my siblings and friends. 🥰
My father was skeptical of me watching this at 13. He thought some of the dialogue was inappropriate for my age.
The writing of James Avery's lines combined with his perfect acting and delivery truly makes the character of Uncle Phil timeless and precious.
My god Uncle Phil always makes me cry.
If everyone had a parental figure like him the world would be ok. 😭
Just be glad he made it to the TV screen at all. For A LOT of Young men(myself included) he was one of the few positive role models we had growing up.
Amen to that.
Ain't that the truth. What will the remake bring to the table? I have serious doubts about it...
Wish I had a father figure like him
It took a lot of courage for Will to confront his family about this. But he did the right thing, instead of just leaving them in the dark about it. 💯💯
If only we could all have a father like that. Doesn't matter what color you are, having a garbage or absent father messes you up. This show gave a lot of us a glimpse at something we never had but always needed.
Man…RIP James Avery! Powerful scene and so much love, compassion and accountability!
I always loved how whenever will was really emotionally hurt uncle Phil grabbed him like he’d do any of his other kids and hugs him tight. ✨🖤✨🖤✨
The character on bel air is the same way he stay crying
This was really heart wrenching you could feel the guilt in the air
These emotional scenes always get to me. Will Smith has incredible range in his acting so believable! RIP James Avery❤🙏
This scene always made me cry. Will really does love Carlton. Such a supporting and loving family… if only families in real life were like this
The new Carlton would’ve snitched then sniffed a line 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I shouldn't have laughed this hard off this comment. The new Carlton is wild 😂😂😂!
CRYING!!!!! The accuracy🤣🤣
"STAY AWAY FROM LISA!!!" 🤣🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😂😂😂 aye yooooooo dawg that hurt me to the core
Alfonso doesn't get enough love. He's been in TV for nearly 40 years.. I've been his fan since The Ricky Schroeder show in the 80's..
Silver Spoons
@James Hagan that was James Avery
@James Hagan No way!! Didn't know that
@James Hagan that still cool as hell but that makes more sense. Alfonso has more of a recognizable voice but shredder did have a raspy voice so it would be hard to detect.... I'm gonna YT some clips and see if I can hear it. I used to watch TMNT everyday after school!
I know, right???? Thank you!
James Avery was a giant among men; whether on stage, screen or television. An inspiration to many; and a legend never to be forgotten. RIP: James Avery
This just showed up on my feed after he slapped Chris Rock
Man what a powerful show The Fresh Prince was
Yo Will Smith really put his all into this scene. Feels like a legit moment. If you didn't feel this, you're heartless
This scene, the one about his father, and the one where he got shot, were some of the best and emotional scenes of the show
One of the most impactful shows in my life growing up as a kid… will always be one of my favorites. So happy to see it modernized.
How many of us young men would have turned out better if we had a human father who showed half of the love uncle Phil's character showed. But we all have a heavenly father who will forgive us with open arms if we truly turn our life around and listen to him
You mean a father who humiliates you in front of the family as part of some grand lesson, pass thanks.
After all these years I’m still crying 😭😭😭
😢
Me too
Gets me every time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Girl 😢😢😭😭
James Avery…..words cannot describe that man’s Acting it’s straight Artwork 💯
This really was one of the best sitcoms ever. Smith eventually let his ego get the best of him. But, he's always been extremely talented.
they recommending his shi after the oscars 😭😭
The best part is that while WILLIAM Smith and Carlton are bickering cousins that love each other like brothers, WILLARD Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro are just as close as brothers in real life.
Thats so cool
His name is WILLARD Smith, JR. Look it up and see for yourself. People always think his name is William when it’s really WILLARD.
@@kaiaballobey4239 His name is William in the show. Thats why he put emphasis on the names when mentioning the characters THEN the actors
@@MrSGames1 That might be true. But his REAL name is WILLARD CAROLL SMITH JR.
@@kaiaballobey4239 We all know that.
The fact that this scene with Carlton came up recommended after watching Bel- Air is ironic AF 😂
Man this moment is iconic. It really slaps!
I think we all need to move on now and get on with our lives 😂
Slap these 🥜
@@Teeps1921 yeah everyone still treating it like Will pulled a Bill Cosbey or Harvey Weinstein
Will Smith is such a great actor he knows when it’s time to be funny on camera and when to be serious.
this was very heartfelt and wholesome, the acting in this was awesome.

I miss 90s sitcoms.
This was a scene to bring tears to your eyes but there's no scene on comedy shows in history that can top the scene of WILL's father walkin away from him because im sure alot of people can relate
Why am I crying though 😭😭😭 this scene was so emotional wow my favorite show of all time ❤️
😢😢
This shows the love between both characters- where Carlton was willing to let it go and violate all that he stands for in terms of following the rules. And Will showing he has HONOR rejected the tickets knowing he didn’t deserve them and coming clean and telling uncle Phil the truth. When he breaks down he is genuine in his hurting of his mistake. This show is BRILLIANT in its lesson delivery- just BRILLIANT
After Will stop crying, he asked Uncle Phil about those season tickets
Fun Fact!!! 😂😂
Why when Will Smith cries it just breaks me!? I love him! This was such a good scene.
Will only did this so he didn't have to watch the Clippers for a whole season. 😁😁😁
I did wonder what happens to the Lakers?
@@adriansmith5279 Lakers Season Tickets? In 1996 after Shaq joined? You might as well ask God for a Ferrari.
@@Sizdothyx your right plus Lakers have to be the most difficult ticket to buy down in LA!
@@Sizdothyx lmfaooo
@@Sizdothyx this was like '92-93 not '96. This was after the Showtime Era. Tickets were affordable then.
Damn, you can’t get shows like this no more. What a shame.
This guy acting is on another level ..makes u laugh can make u cry..Will Smith..the legend
I can't think of another show that mixed levity with serious issues as well, and as seamlessly as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That's a credit to great writing and acting.
Family Matters says hello.
Diff'rent Strokes.
And I’m still tearin’ up at this scene after all this time!
Very deep and serious scene, Will was very powerful, and Uncle Phil was so good love this show, I also seen Bel Air, very good series.
This scene and the one about Will’s father always tears me up
This the one show that can bring me to tears like no other 😭
Uncle Phil was the greatest uncle a kid coulda asked for. R.I.P sir
Imagine seeing this scene then going to watch Bel-Air, where like the second scene showing Carlton has him snorting Zanax
This is a powerful message to any teen who’s watching at this time hell any other kid who’s watching this was a hard moment to digest
Man that stare from Hillary was terrifying
@@prideofasia99 yes it really was.
Karyn Parsons
@@reseyworld Thank you. I changed my comment to spell her name accurately.
For a comedy show Fresh Prince had a lot good drama moments.
The show always shined, but these types of moments were pure gems.
Uncle Phil, even though wasn't directly related to Will he always showed him love and equality and correction
May he still rip James Avery
Amazing scene and show...but oh yea, who is here after the slap!?
I think we all need to move past that now 😂
What slap? 😉
Hits every time, so good…
According to a Bel Air Fan, even Ben Vereen didn't like Lou leaving Will again. Makes sense.
I get why Uncle Phil is upset, but it’s a bit fucked up to lay the blame solely on Will. Carlton went into his locker and took something without fully understanding what it was.
Right
This show and family matters were incredible, need more like them today
Bel Air can never replace this.
In alot of Will's performances on this show i always wondered how the hell did he make us laugh and cry and it be both believable
Goosebums when he says ´sorry´. His best acting scene was when his dad leaves, its so good.
