- How to Fix Ford West Coast Jr. Swing Lock Truck Mirrors Episode 57 Manic Mechanic
The bolts used on a Ford Camper Special Mirror were chrome plated. There is now a kit to replace all the bolts for the Ford F100 mirrors. Doug Beam Enterprises has a new Swing Lock Mirror kit. He also has a new West Coast Jr. mirror bolt kit. We give tips on disassembly of the Swing Lock mirrors. We show how to remove rust from the stainless parts using white vinegar. We show cleaning tips for the stainless mirror parts using steel wool. We also give a cautionary tail about braking the mirror hen taking them apart.

I am glad you show the imperfect parts of the process. Chipping paint, breaking off bolts. Yep, that's 50% of the process. Great video
Finally got some mirrors from a junky yard.
Can't wait to refresh these so they look nice. The Stainless is okay, the mirrors are scratched bad and the bolts are completely, 100%, rusted. Looks like Doug Beam sells New Glass and the Mirror Gasket as well as the Bolt Kits.
Thanks for the video Jeff. Once again, you have made it simple for me to fix a thing.
That kit is pretty cool, not gonna lie. A while ago I was on eBay and found original swing lock mirrors that had the original paper diagram that showed measurements of where the bolt holes go and how to mount on the truck door for the 1970 model year.
Yoou found some pretty rare stuff!
@@AutoRestoMod Thanks! I took a screen shot of the photos of the listing but only of the diagram, I can send them if you request.
Thank you for the video. I also have a West Coast Jr mirror I acquired it from a mid 70's Ford truck, that I put it on my 65 Ford truck. I did not use the plastic washer when I reassembled it. That is a good idea, I will half to do it.
Instead of a plastic bottle, I used Bicycle inner tubes for the clamps. Works great
That is an awesome idea.
5m55s My 2¢ if it helps.
I cut a bicycle tire inner tube to use as a gasket like how you're using a plastic bottle.
Although I thought the rubber would be more grippy to hold its place, I like your idea and I'm sure there are far more people who have a plastic container.
Great idea that I didn't think of 👍
Great idea
That's a cool kit. Let us know how it comes out. PS...the 'stache is killer!
Theo! It had to go. It looked good, well accept to some of our viewers, but it was fully annoying!
18:00......I #@*$&‰ hate it when that happens.
Another Great video, thanks for your time and effort 🍻
Me too. The bolt was cracked. I looked later and there is rust on one side of it.
Glad to watch you go thru the aggravation of rebuilding your mirrors. I got the 72' Camper style mirror with the extra arm and both mirrors are crap. Does anyone sell the whole mirror assembly a a package?? Then it's just a bolt-on and done :)
Daniel McQueen no reproduction mirrors are available. I can sell you everything to restore yours.
Doug Beam
Hey Jeff, when i have to seat those sheet metal nuts I pretty much throw away the bolts that come with them and use a grade 8 instead.
Doug is planning to source a better quality bolt. I also went kinda urban gorilla on the thing too.
I rebuilt a set but now I can’t get the swing locks to work without crushing that washer. The bolts just spin and undo themselves.
Wish we could restore that moustache!
Already gone. Video on that will be up at 4:30 PM 12.4.19 (today). It was for a good cause. We raised $300 for the Movember Foundation.
I want something like these for my 1960 f100 what do you think? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I think that mustache makes your voice deeper. Lol
Would you do a video on what do to when you strip the bellhousing starter mounting bolt holes?
Good idea! I will need to find us a trashed bell housing.
@@AutoRestoMod
Cool! My 84 v8 ranger starter bolts were stripped and the last owner already did the bottom bolt but not the top.
Also while your doing that video. Show how to properly line up a starter to the ring teeth.
I wish i saw this a year ago.
The kit just came out.
I know, I wish the video was out when I was restoring my mirrors. I purchased a stainless kit on ebay which someone put together for these mirrors. It wasn't a complete kit and didn't have the small screws for mirror. Plus I didn't have a video like yours to reference. Thanks again for putting these videos out, it sure has been a big help restoring my truck.@@AutoRestoMod
im curious if a set of f600 west coast mirrors off a 1976 f800 will fit on my 77 f250
Just screw em on.
Would these look nice on an obs ford ?
That is a personal preference thing.
You end up doing it?
Do you have a link to his eBay or Facebook?
Sorry, I forgot to put that in the description box under the video. Ill add it in.

Until I can get into the office here ya go.
Not impressed with the hardware kit!..did not come with the large locking discs,,was short 8 acorn nuts and came with a bunch of tiny hardware you don't even use..way better off going to Lowes ..save yourself $50
