- We fix the noisy tailage on the Bumpside F100 we have dubbed Colonel Mustard. We install the Stainless tailgate handle. We improve the operation of the cranky old gate. Yes, we know Mobsteel hads a tuck named Colonel Mustard that is a 1972 F100 in Sequoia Brown and Tampico Yellow. Completely get it. Not like it is trade marked!

That door shutting is a nostalgic sound to some. Everytime i close my '72 250 it reminds me of being 5 y/o again and hearing my granddad get of the truck. (Same truck i have)
I Have A 1970 F250 Ranger XLT .... This Entire Series Will Be Extremely Helpful.
We have a lot coming for the F100. This next week we'll be installing a Westin rear bumper.
44 years old and it still works, New truck tailgates are crap!
Who the hell needs built in cupholders and a shitty stepladder anyhow?
But they will still make you pay an extra $10k for it.
I couldn't figure how get tailgate of my 75 ford f250 this was huge thanks
Nice. The old hinges, the solid one is original and he other stamped out one is from a dent side 73-79.
My tail gate was a pain, had to take off support brackets also.
Very helpful video!
Love your show. I have learned a lot from it. However, most of the noise is because the parts it rotates on, and many others, are 50 years old and rusty. Grease the parts and the only noise you will probably get is when it slams shut. People in 1972, specifically the people who bought pickup trucks (they were not soccer moms taking the kids to practice), did not worry about a little noise when you slammed your tailgate. It kills me when I see these millennials taking out an old f100 and "reviewing" it like it was brand new. I recently took my 1977 Ford F150 to the local chain store repair shop because it was shaking bad. The young guys took it out and gave it back to me saying "nothing we can do, it's a 1977, that's the way they drove." Bullshit. I went with my dad to pick up his new 1972 F100 explorer back in the day and it was a nice driving truck. Nothing like the Cadillac Trucks people drive today, but nice. You could restore and use an awesome F100 for about 15K or less that will do the same job as a 40-50K+ vehicle. I do love the show and will keep watching.
It is a part that folks buy, we installed it because a viewer asked. Funny story from my best friend who was a mechanic. He worked at a Ford dealer in the service department from 1990 to 2010. There was a newly minted 20 year old tech in the shop, he was quite the strutter. Touting his certifications and what not. My friend said that the kid was OK as long as he could plug something in a port. An old farmer brought his 71 F350 into the dealership for it's yearly tune up; points, plugs, filter. The service writer speedily wrote the order and put it in the young guys bay while he was on break. The young man came out grabbed the diagnotistics computer system, popped the hood and stood dumbfounded. No port. John said that it was interesting how every older tech had disappeared (including him, he hid behind his tool box). John finally had pity on the dude and shared the wonders of ignition before boxes.
@@AutoRestoMod Great story. Love what you guys are doing with the truck. I have a 1971 F100 Kansas farm truck that I am doing a frame off restoration on. I am going to make it as close to concourse as I can. It won't be perfect as some stuff will be made of unobtainia. What I like about your stuff is you have videos that are great resources for us concourse/almost original guys and also for those making some modifications. Keep up the good work.
I have a camper special, it might be better for bed mounted weapons such as quad .50s
What’s the best way to adjust the tailgate to line it up. Mine seems to be off on one side and the gap on each side is off too.
Just catching this show... Did I miss where you posted or mentioned the part number for the quiet hinges?
Not sure how I missed putting that in the description. Here ya go!
HINGE, TAILGATE, SILENCER
#F-43000-1A
Any suggestions if the handle doesn’t open the gate?
I'd try grabbing the rod on one side with locking plyers and pulling. Then have someone pull that side of the tail gate. Then do the other side the same way.
@@AutoRestoMod thank you!
Back when trucks were made for working men
mcinkyt Oh definitely my friend.
Sweet Song of the South, that hair belongs in an Iroc Camaro
All that work and you are complaining about hair?
@@AutoRestoMod hell no, it's majestic
Where could you find cable set up if you wanted to go that route
National Parts Depot might carry a conversion.
Dude looks like the bald cop on Breaking Bad
Nice cat, I have the same color.
LOL She is a cool little feral walk up. She is a heck of a hunter too; keeps everything out of the shop accept for her boyfriend we have dubbed "Boots". He can do what ever he likes according to her. Even if I DON'T like it. =)
If only ford made the new 2019 superdutys tailgate that hard to steal my buddy wouldn’t be paying $6,800 for a new one.
Whew, glad I was sitting down for that comment...that...is really expensive.
"it can hold cat" lololol
And often does.
Graphite powdered grease
Hitting one hammer with another hammer, eyeballing the results with no safety glasses, you are begging to lose an eye.
all of them are rangers your thinking XLT
The trim levels for a '72 were Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger, and Ranger XLT. You will find mention of the Explorer trim level also available in '72 it wasn't. It became available in '73 and the Sport Custom was dropped.
The Ranger got the Chrome handle, And possibly the XLT. We'd have to look again. www.fordification.com is a GREAT source for the F100. Check it out.
See that all you Chevy boys I bet you wish your tailgate could handle a cat
To many adds
Then you pay my bills.
@@AutoRestoMod watch the videos to learn a skill. Not to be sold something. You should just do infomercial’s. No auto repairs.
Vaseline and graphite
No one can flog it in 6 seconds, grease, leave it

5 f----n minutes and no tail gate
Right it is a "show" that explains how to do things. Check out Manic Mechanic, our bi-weekly show it is much more geared to folks like you who need not bother with niceties. At least you didn't spell our your ire.
And for the record, the sponsors help pay for the show and we banter because other folks like the "show" aspects of the show.
