    The Einstein seems like a pretty good substitute for the VH4 surprisingly! The Herbert sounds a little more extreme and different. A bit ‘hairier’ I think but maybe less defined.
    Edit: and I found an Einstein combo to buy today, very excited for when it arrives!

    Channel 2 of the Einstein can get really gainy/mushy. I prefer channel 1, mode 3 on mine. I also run mine with a mix of SED EL34 and 6550 Winged-C tubes. Sounds very punchy. You'd be surprised how much the sound of these amps can change with a tube swap.

      I played in a metalcore/hardcore band from 2002-2005 where I used an Ultralead and the other guitarist used a Herbert mk1. Both are top top tier metal amps and can get brutal. That said, they have some pretty significant differences in overall tone and, what you won't hear on a demo....feel. The UL has instant attack, super tight and vicious upper mids. Feel wise, it is like people say: pretty stiff and unforgiving. The Herbert has absolutely immense low end projection....if you want it. More compressed feeling than an UL and there is some give and bounce under the fingers. Overall, I would take a Herbert. Better clean channel, versatile 2nd channel and it feels way better under the fingers. Cray thing is, back when my buddy got his mk1, they were the new big thing for high gain amps and UL's could be had pretty cheap. Now I see UL's going for as much or more than Herbert's.

  • @LordLucidious

    Einstein sounds cleaner and overdriven in parts. The vh4 sounds throaty and articulate for the big chords. and the Herbert has this tight and punchy in the bass but has that diezel squishyness.

    They really should have made an Einstein mkii with mode switching, midi, and balancing the volume difference between mode 1,2,& 3 on channel 1. Would be killer. D-moll replaced the Einstein but doesn’t really sound like it.

  • @matttaylor1449

    They are all really nice quality amps and i think the Einstein is my favourite of the bunch due to it's tightness, but i suppose the others can be tightened with a TS in front. Overall though, i have never really like the sound of these amps too much, at least not in comparison to Peavey 5150/6505 and Mesa Mark series amps, those are much tighter IMO and the Peaveys are just the perfect metal riffing amp and much less expensive for the tone.
    What are the general reasons people choose a Diezel over a Peavey/Mesa/other type of metal amp, is it just tonal preference or are the other reasons?
    Thanks

      I tested almost all Diezels released before Big Max and kept Herbert & Einstein for riffing. Dmoll was tightest but didnt like the sound. I feel like some reviews were not fair, like it is a stereotype that cheaper amp is worse or something. Unfortunately they discontinued the Eisntein.

  • @johnnybgoodies2940
    @johnnybgoodies2940 10 місяців тому

    They are basically all the same. Its easy, do you want to spend 5 grand, or 2 ? I could tweak the Einstein to sound like both of the others, easily, and I wouldnt have to mod shit. I cant believe the difference in money after listening to the clips. If I was a big Diezel guy, Id be pissed at Peter Diezel for simply teasing and confusing everyone with such close amps. They are too close alike, to be too far apart in price, its UTTERLY ridiculous.
