    It's always so nice when I see how successful Diezel amps are all over the world. In the 80s I had a rehearsal room with my metal band in Dagelfing near Munich (Bavaria/Germany), where there were some rehearsal rooms in an old stud farm. There were also other metal bands like Bonfire and BoysVoice rehearsing. Peter Diezel played guitar with the band BoysVoice and also had his workshop there. He modified Marshalls and helped all fellow musicians when they had a problem with the amp. At some point he said he is now starting his own company, how we find the name Diezel. We all thought it was great... sounds similar to "Diesel" and has that sleazy "z" in the name... just cool. None of the bands that rehearsed there really got big. But Peter with his amps is world famous today. Great times - great memories.

    I am happy enough to own one of these babies and love it.
    once my fuse broke too, and on its way out.... well.... let's just say i needed a whole lotta new tubes. I sent my amp to diezel Germany and received a phone call from Peter Diezel to clarify the issues. This company really is a role model in terms of quality and customer Service. Great Video

    Just FYI. I have a Diezel Einstein 100 watt. I used a TAD bias master to bias mine just recently. When I checked the external bias points while the bias master was connected (like you did), it gave me a reading of 11 for the pair, which was clearly incorrect. I would have severely over biased them as you said. Once I was finished biasing with the bias master, I checked the bias points without the bias master connected and they were spot on to what I had biased it at. My guess is the bias master connected interferes with the readings of the bias points. Just thought I’d pass my findings along. Nice video. Subscribed.

    Love your style of reviewing with a technical angle. Just what I look for when considering different equipment. I love the way this is engineered, am definitely considering a Diezel now. There's a used 2006 einstein 50 at 1400 EUR, but a new D-moll is "just" 600 more, although with 6l6s.

    Really love watching your service videos. Very interesting although I wouldn’t have any clue how to do any of this myself! 😂 I think you are close to me as I live in London. Do you do amp modifications to Marshalls? I have a JCM800 studio and wanted the gain boosted on it (without a pedal) either via a new knob installed or built into the pre amp knob.

  • @MrPaolo101

    Very impressed, enough to look up that Diezel don’t make this amp anymore!. So its the used market!!?!!?!!... and I have a feeling the price may have just gone up.
    Out of interest, did you solve the Bias point mystery?. Thats the only thing that slightly worried me?.

    • @RDamps
      @RDamps  2 роки тому +1

      I believe the Dmoll is basically this amp which is still available. As for the bias point, I cleaned up the bias points as my probes weren’t making a good enough contact. It was still a little off (10%) but strongly recommend against biasing that way anyway. Because you only see the current draw of the pair combined. You don’t see what each individual tube is doing.
      For example you could bias to the correct 70ma, but one tube could be pulling 50ma (redplating) and the other only 20ma. True you would probably see this and it would sound like shit. But still not ideal.

    Engl and Diezel are the opposite ends when it come to build quality. Engls are manufactured from parts sourced by penny pinchers and constructed as cheaply as possible. That's why they're cheap in europe, dont know what they cost elsewhere. Not that the entry level Diezels would be outrageously expensive either, VH2 cost me 1750e shipped and it was new. It's really not too bad as value added tax is already one fifth of the price. Some of the components cost actual money, not cents. When you factor all that actually Diezel starts to look very reasonably priced. But if you're after second hand amp, then Engl has the upper hand, those can be had for next to nothing, but I have never seen cheap used diezel amp..

    Wild question. If you had spare tube sockets and the skills to solder them in and rebias is everything populated so that it would be essentially drop in and go?

  • @brivington2011

    How old is this amp? Do the current Diezel amps also have a reputation of having great builds like this one? Also, have you ever worked on Hughes and Kettner? I have an issue with my H&K GM Deluxe 40 that still has volume when the Standby switch is engaged? Have you ever heard of what could cause that problem with the GM 40? I've looked online and there is not much info. I'm sending into our Long and McQuade (Canada) store so they can ship it to their amp tech. I just thought I would mention this if you have an opinion on what would cause that problem. Love your channel! Keep up the great work!

    • @RDamps
      @RDamps  2 роки тому +1

      No idea on the age of that particular amp. I believe the current production Dmoll is pretty much this amp though.As for your H&K: I haven’t worked on one, and I don’t have the schematic in front of me. It’s a strange one for sure though. Sounds like it doesn’t really have a true “Standby” in the traditional sense. Blackstar’s club series amps don’t have a traditional standby either. The high voltage lines come on with the power and the standby is literally a mute

    Do you have a video on how you’re doing your signal chain with the helix?
    I own 3 amp heads but no cabinet however I have a reactive load that I can use with my computer and Logic Pro. I am not very satisfied with the sound and I believe it has to do with my setup configuration.
    I am really tempted to buy a cabinet for the plug and play aspect of it but neighbors, price tag and the clutter aspects of it make me rethink often.
    Your amps always sound great through recording so there must be improvement that can be done on my setup I am hoping. An explanation video could help.
    Thanks again for the great content, really enjoying your videos. And happy new year!

    Hi, just picked up one of these. It has supposedly been biased. So you read and set the bias, using bias points inside the amp? How come the reading was different using the external bias points? What's their purpose if they give a different reading?

    • @RDamps
      @RDamps  2 роки тому +1

      I think I made a boo-boo. When using the amps bias points you’re meant to remove a couple if specific fuses. I didn’t 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @bugeyedmudafuka2
