    I have both purchased from Tone Merchants in Anaheim CA in 2003, a Mk1 and a Mk2 w/ 2-4x12 salt & pepper cabs one loaded with Celestion 4xG12K-100, and the other with Celestion 4xG12M-75 -- SOUNDS AMAZING. No tube amp can touch it, going on 21 years now.
    On the Mk2, CH2 without the boost is closet to a Marshall, and you can get very convincing EVH tones there, on the Mk2.

    Just saw this video. Quite a difference between the Mk 1 and the Mk 2. Mk 1 is more compressed, more wet and not as dry, with more texture. Deizel Amps is one of the high gain amps Ive never owned, but my experience with owning numerous versions of the same high gain amps from many different brands, is they can very a lot even if the same exact model, so who knows if what we are hearing is inherit in the design of the mk1 and mk 2, or just these individual amps. But between these two, I would take the Mk 1 hands down. Thanks for the video.

    I keep coming back to this video! This time I'm using it to consider whether my Herbert MkIII would benefit from an OD. From your clips, I think I prefer an unboosted Herbert! I switch between Diezel and Mesa Boogie cabs, and the depth knob does a great job to keep the low end controlled yet huge for any cab. From your clips, it seems an OD takes away some of that appeal.

    • @TheOtherJohnBrowne
      @TheOtherJohnBrowne  2 роки тому +1

      I hope the video is helpful to you in a way. I think Diezels react to front end boosts in a very unique way. It does change the low end response quite dramatically and adds some high mid aggression. The Herberts and the D-Moll as well become very aggressive sounding. For lack of a better term, a good boost just makes the Herbert sound super pissed and cutting. I can't really decide which I prefer, though I think I am leaning towards boosted but I just enjoy how versatile and adaptable these amps are. The power amp controls (deep and presence) and the EQs are very effective on these amps and give you a lot of rope to shape the tonality of the amps to your liking. My video(s) probably don't do the amps justice in that regard because I tend to set and forget. I'm a real knuckle dragger when it comes to that!
      Thanks for taking time out of your day to leave a comment!

      If you want an overdrive but like the un-boosted tones mostly, try the This Heavy Earth Grim. It has a clean blend which allows you to subtly blend in the change you need without hosing the whole tone.. and A TON of adjustability.. And don't forget the internally located, input impedance control. You can try to match that to your amps response or modify it.
      It's based on a tubescreamer but can also go totally modern. EQ, HPF/LPF, and the gain is actually usable. There is a bite control that also allows you to place where the mid hump is.. And 3 clipping options. The EQ is great because if the bass cut is too extreme, you can pump some back in and find the sweet spot. Super useful when switching guktars/tunings etc.
      I recommend v1 or v3 of that pedal.

    • @TheOtherJohnBrowne
      @TheOtherJohnBrowne  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much!
      I might do that at some stage when I put the EL34s back in the mk II. At the same time, I'm not sure if that would make for an interesting video. I didn't really notice much of a difference after putting KT77s in. Some people say the JJ KT77 is an EL34, so there's that.
      However, I am planning on making a big video if not several videos on the effect of tubes on amp tones using spectograms. The previous videos and probably the next few are my practice runs to make sure the tube test videos don't suck 😂

    Hey man, thank you for your effort on this one! Great, really great video! I was wondering about the radial, do you get any extra noise from it?I've read something about noise with hi gain amps.

    • @TheOtherJohnBrowne
      @TheOtherJohnBrowne  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I really like the Radial and didn't notice any additional noise with it. It has a ground lift button on the back that can help with some types of noise

    • @TheOtherJohnBrowne
      @TheOtherJohnBrowne  2 роки тому

      I need to correct my statement. It gets noisy when the guitar is close to it. and mine is either broken or the Radial is in fact garbage. I noticed while making a video that it lets signal through to the amp that is not supposed be active. It leaks. Hence depending on how loud you have your power amp, the amp is driving the puny load resistor in the unit. This is a potential catastrophe waiting to happen.
      I would not recommend the Radial anymore.

    I had both the MKI & MKII. In the end I was disappointed with the MKII as the MKI is more brutal and evil and just more face melting of an amp. I wish I had a chance to test the MKIII.

      Me too. I would love to compare a mk III

    • @PHLTHS
      @PHLTHS 8 місяців тому

      @@TheOtherJohnBrowne I believe it would be much the same. The reason for the MKII was due to the transformer manufacturer changing so Diezel had to adapt and while at it they corrected some issues with people having high impedance pickups causing distortion CH1. MKIII was more updating it for all the wishes that people wanted but the fundamental change was the transformers.
