  • "Mark Riedemann interviews H.E Luka Gopep. He grew up in the town of Pankshin, Nigeria, where most of the people are farmers. He was a teacher before he became a priest. He is one of the Catholic bishops of Nigeria, a country with 217 million, Africa’s most populous country. Christianity makes up fully one half of that population. In his diocese of Minna, squarely in the centre of Nigeria - the so-called Middle Belt - he has witnessed some of the worst outbreaks of violence in Nigeria. Bishop Gopep says: “thugs can come at any time, even in broad daylight. They capture entire families, leaving the children and taking away the adults”.
