  • In this episode Father Gideon Obasogie of the diocese of Maiduguri in Northern Nigeria speaks about the situation of the Catholic church in his diocese, where alone more than 5,000 Catholics have been killed; at least 100,000 have been displaced; and 250 churches have been destroyed - all by the activity of Boko Haram.
Boko Haram is a terrorist organisation affiliated with ISIS based in Northeast Nigeria and spreading throughout West Africa. Formed in 2002 and starting an armed rebellion against the Nigerian government in 2009, the term Boko Haram is loosely translated as ‘Western education is forbidden’ or ‘Western influence is a sin’. Their activities include suicide bombings and kidnappings, most known for the mass kidnapping of more than 200 female students in Chibok in 2014.
