- In this tutorial we'll paint a Warhammer 40k Imperial Knight in about 4 hours, using a very limited paint selection, some fun kitbashing, a bit of beginner 3d printing, and a good dose of problem solving.

"This Imperial, or not so Imperial, Knight." You know, given the shattered aquila and the stonking big Nurgle symbols, I'm not sure this lad's loyalties are as ambiguous as you and Penny suggest!

Nice! I'm saving a giant pile of 3d printed 'trusses' myself. The decal on the messed-up banner looks great.

The sprue bits on Forge World or Creature Caster pieces make for really great concrete barriers for urban bases too.
This channel is totally responsible for reigniting my love of the hobby. There's just something so achievable about how you breakdown these videos that drew me back into painting and I honestly can't thank you guys enough! Another great video, love the direction this channel is moving in!
Thank so much Josh! Happy that we've rekindled your spark, as it were ;)

@@MidwinterMinis Why did you tell us "The quick brown 🦊 jumps over 13 lazy 🐶."
@@MidwinterMinis *visible confusion*
It took you only FOUR HOURS to paint this behemoth?! It takes me a whole evening to get a 1/3 of a single Skitarii done.
I don't know how long it took you to get this quick at painting, but you certainly haven't lost an ounce of the obvious YEARS of skill & talent you've learned while doing so! Inspiring as always, MWM :)
Haha, thanks mate. Once you get in the "I've just got to do it, let's gooo" mentality, it really helps speed things up :)
Is it weird that this huge model being painted like this has inspired me to finally tackle my first dreadnought?
Not at all! I bet a Dreadnought in this style would be awesome :)
Good for you:)
@@MidwinterMinis can you do a dreadnought tutorial, please?
Im at a loss, this model is absolutely incredible! And I’m so glad you did a model the traditional way, airbrushes are not available for everyone and this really motivates me to paint bigger models!
Thank you Charly! Yeah, my airbrush was giving me dirty looks the whole time, haha.
@@MidwinterMinis Hey I have a question, is it ok for the model to be spray painted? I am planning to make my imperial knight to look like a statue made out of cobblestone or other rock material that was build by old civilizations centuries ago to honor the mighty robot titan.
The dry brushing metallic over black really made my T’au stealth suits look way cooler. Thanks for the great tip!
sounds like some communism propaganda
Yeah Yeah ... Big kit fun with weathering and grime .. Very COOL ... You guys are Great 😁
Thank you Luke!
A simple, straightforward guide with smooth transitions and easy audio that isn't obtrusive. Nice. You earned a subscriber with this video.
Pro tip, if you want to paint white armour use instead Ulthuan Grey (or a very light grey). The coverage is a million times better and it looks a lot more realistic than flat white.
The white can be used for accent highlights in small places.
The "White Grey" I used is practically identical to Ulthuan Grey, but it's in a dropper bottle, which is my preference.
So excited to watch this. Yours has become my favorite channel on UA-cam. Cheers!
Oh, thanks so much mate! :)
*grabs popcorn* oh boy this one is gonna be GOOD.
Well? How did you like it? :D
@@MidwinterMinis I absolutely loved your conversion work here, those 3D printed shoulders were obviously a big part of it but you were a complete genious with that nurgle symbol and the bit of Abaddon's cape. This knight will wear his icon of the putrid grandfather proud!

I set myself up for that one D-:
I swear the more Nurgle stuff you do the more I want to see a army showcase or a battle report with them. Great work love your stuff have a good day
You guys are fantastic, these are all such high-quality videos that get straight into it without 5 minutes of nonsense at the start. Your videos are a pleasure to watch and you've given me some great ideas for painting my own minis (even though I mostly do historical gaming!)
We're really glad we could given you a bit of inspiration, mate! :) It doesn't always have to be complicated :)
Awesome. I love it when you do these larger and more complex models. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
Fastest click in human history. I've waited so long and after a ton of awesome music you teach the world to gotta go fast and epic in painting again. Cheers! :D
Who wants to be the "Bob Ross of miniature painting" when you can be the "Sonic The Hedgehog of miniature painting" ;)
Damn fantastic. I have been painting 4 knights over the past year or so...don’t get enough time....a few things I have found. I use the Citadel gem paints for my lenses etc. On the nurgle Knight I based coated the lens with a fluorescent green, the used the gem paint. It’s eyes not glow user UV.. I’m also using the fluorescent paint on seams etc to simulate a growing corruption inside.I also found using a second more specific dry brush of a different metal colour (brass, gold) on large metal pieces breaks up the look and gives the impression of different materials ..I know obvious. But these do extend the time..see above...and increases cost/range. Some day these will be done, some day
Sounds like a nice scheme! I spent so much time wondering and worrying about what to do with this, I'm glad I just bashed it out in 2 evenings, haha :)
Midwinter Minis no hesitation just go for it..if only I could follow that advice
"No, Commissar, this isn't a Renegade Knight. It is an Undercover Loyalist Knight!"
That's a great, grungy, grimy, grotty looking metal murder machine.
After your awesome "how to play 40k", would it be possible for you to make a "how to kill team"? I think id would be very useful especially for people new to the hobby with less models...
Keep up the great work!
1nicer b0i yeah Guy, show the people how to play Kill Team!
It's definitely on the cards! Watch this space :)
@@MidwinterMinis Thats great to hear, really looking forward to it!
@@MidwinterMinis That's great. But, please specifically call it "How to Kill Team" instead of "How to play Kill Team".
Sometimes, every once in a long while, one comes across a new channel to watch and like three years worth of videos. And then sometimes, there are videos that make you wish you could like them more than once.
If there is one thing I love, it's seeing Guy and Penny releasing a video on a Monday.

Watching this gave me a feel for the size of your smile when you finished it. Amazing job Guy. I love the Nurgle approach to painting Warhammer minis
Haha, it was pretty big! ;)
@@MidwinterMinis Two other thing's.
1) I think a good smaller video you could make would be one using those spare pauldrons and trying the PVA and super glue trick like you did with the plague marines as an alternative to 3D printing. Just a suggestion.
2) Watching this generally made me want to get stuck in with my Mega-boss. I've had it for a while now and really want it to be a center piece for my painting. Thanks for the inspiration to start him.
Bloody brilliant!
Thanks Marc!
This is pretty much the paint scheme I am doing for my own Renegade CSM army. Only started then yesterday so was surprised to see the colours you went for. To video
Great minds think alike, James! :)
Great scott! That turned out nice
Thanks Nicolas!
This video inspired me to finish building and finally start painting my Knight. I am very pleased with how it turned out, Thank you for the great video!
You guys' editing and commentary is fantastic. Not a whole lot of the camera sitting in place or wasted stills, but still giving each moment plenty of time for you to show AND tell what's going on. Same thing with you Battle Reports, being very easy to follow for someone just starting to get interested in the tabletop side of 40k. Super well done, and I've been enjoying the heck out of your channel the past few days. Definitely looking forward to more!

Those are rookie numbers son!
Thanks for making such a great channel! Your tips have given me the inspiration required to actually paint some models. As for backlog i'm currently sat on the speed freaks boxed, set an imperial guard walkers and three issues of mortal realms.
Looks so good, ancient and dirty and abandoned and reused....
Yeah! Sounds like a good idea for a scenario! :)
@@MidwinterMinis would make for a great story
Have yet to start any of my knights, but this looks really good given how quickly you did it. I can see how you could always come back to it and add more detail to the paint scheme. Very well done!
Pretty darn good! I like the weathered corrosion effect on the panels, dark and white splotches, looking very natural. Nurgle's usually associated with organic rot, but metallic rust and corrosion is a great variation.
Thank god for midwinter minis, and really all these channels, for building and painting the models I could never buy in good conscience!
Hey mate, when printing using resin you should consider scaling it 103-105%, as the resin tends to retract once cured :) Amazing work you did on that model!
Midwinter winis is what I say when I say the name really fast
I do it too, haha
Something about the half face looks so good. It really brings it all together with the exposed mechanisms
Regards your Pauldron size, like printing with PLA, I imagine resin also suffers from shrinkage. When dimensions are important I allow 1-2% for shrinkage.
Having looked into it, not shrinkage but Resin printers do suffer from build up, when curing. Check out the link in second comment.
Ah, that's good to know for the future! Thanks mate :)
@@MidwinterMinis OK just read a few articles and apparently it's unlikely to be shrinkage but can be down to excess resin curing.....here's a link discussing it:

Glad you could find a bit of inspiration in it, Sam!
At first I was exited to write this but now I'm not because I am new to war hammer and just bought a starter pack but it turns out the starter pack that I just bought was just a paint pack I wish they said so a little more clearly but still this channel has gotten me into the hobby and I'm back to the hobby shop tomorrow after online class

Yea boiii!
You just know that state of that Knight would give a mechanicus priest an aneurysm.
Looking at the finished product one would not believe how hideous yellow those shoulder plates actually are.
While I condemn heresy I must congratulate you for making this very awesome piece of art, it is absolutely glorious! ^_^
I'm watching this and i've never painted any type of Warhammer character but i can say that is awesome how many details the imperial Knight has and how cool its at the end 10/10
I laughed so hard when Penny said "You're a learning experience"! I think my wife has said something very similar on a number of occasions. Great video.

Good video, quick tip keep your decal on the paper and bring that up to the model before you slide it off, this will stop it from ripping or wrinkling. Also try some Tamiya mark fit or such like this realy helps set your decals in place.
