- Dr. Laway Travels in Albania. Albania- Train Ride from Durres to Tirana
Sharing with you my wonderful experience riding an Old train from Durres to Tirana. The trains are old and broken down which is no reflection on the wonderful Albanian people. But even though it's old, I had an Amazing Journey

The locomotives are Class.T669 built in Chekoslovakia bought in the 80's and the wagons are imported used from Germany around 2004. The train you were on is the best train we have because the two wagons were refurbished in 2015. If you think this train is bad than you should ride the Durres-Elbasan one, also the wagons in the Durres Station are still functional in the Elbasan line. Nice video!
Thank you for that information, I was really curios as to where they came from. I hope to ride the Elbasan line next time I come back. I think trains are one of the best ways to see a country.
There are everything 70_80s the cars are Italian the locomotves are Checkoslovachia
I would rather ride that than a small bus. At least the window opens and you have space. Thanks for showing us.
Thanks for watching. The Train is also great cause you can move around and really see the landscape.
The nostalgia that this video gives me is unbelieveable. Maybe those trains are absolute trash, but the childhood memories going from Tirana to Durres in 2012 just make me miss them.
they are rebuilding them and they are going to add newer locomotives
the memories of riding a train in albania as a kid 4 hours one way to tirana was an epic journey
Wow, four hours! What city where you coming from?

I know they are totally s*** and not fit for purpose but I miss those trains. There’s something romantic about riding in an old rickety and rusty train, battling with somebody’s goat for a seat, being overtaken by grasshoppers, while watching the Albanian landscape rolling past.
This was the most fun I have ever had on a train ride. I am really thinking of coming back and riding to the other destination just for the fun!
.. I live in NYC and as bad as that train might look to you.. the ones in NY are far worse....
There's nothing wrong with that train. I would ride it. I don't know why everyone has bad-mouthed it. Instead they go on the buses and complain about those.
I am old train fan...no matter how slow or old carriage...I find it special than modern electric carriage.
I love your videos, man. Thanks for the content. Wish you well in your travels.
I miss the trains!
Me too!
The government should bring back trains .. like you said you get to see parts of the country you would never see.. and they are fun and cheaper way to travel... it doesn't cost that much to get new trains... If they want them they could get the money....
I hope they do, I promise them a customer who will ride them.
they are but dont know when they said maybe in 16-22 months
I found the same carriages in Hungary, they are intact there without vandalism
Nice! Hoping to get to Hungary this Fall.
I have good news they are renovating the trains I heard it from the news yesterday, yeeeeeeeyyyyy
That's wonderful news! The last thing I saw in the news was people in Elbasan warning people not to cross the tracks.
good to see a true picture instead of all the over spun BS from other channels, bravo
Thanks! I aim to show a true picture.
12:06 that’s where the main locomotive terminal and repairs are
I had no idea it was there until I was passing it on the train and got super excited. Hoping to go back and see it in the future.
@@DrLawaytravels also I saw you mention later in the video that “the government didn’t have enough money to fix the trains“ well they did and they even stole money that the railway made when the railways were relied on greatly (mid 1990s to late 2000s) although thankfully in the 2 recent years the government is giving railway funds so they could fix wagons and keep operations going and some extra money to save up and rebuild the other lines (since durres tirana line has already had a contract signed to fix the line in February and it should be done by 2023 for sure)
Train station is being remodeled by an Italian company for 100million+ euros new tracks, station and brand new trains so trains will be getting huge renovation
In 1980 until 1990 were very good but since 1997 never spend 1$ on it or the station that some of them were so cozy but now they don't use maybe 10 to 50 people and they run max 35_40mph max they do run slow but they run from south to north westside Albania they cheap they run every 2h if they run normally as you see always empty back than they have animal car restaurant car it's a great adventure Welcome to Silver bullet of Albania 🤭👍 enjoy
Thanks, I had so much fun on that Train still one of the highlights of my trip.
@@DrLawaytravels I use to go to school on that train but I was lucky to see it fully function was way faster and perfectly clean the fare was 20c on 40km
I live in USA for 20 Year's we have everything here but I miss Albania life is very Beautiful no Rush no stress no noise
After I retired I will go live there maybe 😊
wait what Im albanian but I didnt know we had trains, what the F
LoL. Hurry and ride them before they're gone! It's funny I talked to several people in Tirana who told me there were no trains. Haha.
Same same lol ..
@@DrLawaytravels 🤦♀️😆
@@DrLawaytravels There are no trains, Tirana station is closed. Kashar is not Tirana station, this is other station.
well, you gave me a great idea to make a video of how these locomotives work.... a journey from Durres to Elbasan :) I grow up in these stations inside the locomotives :) and I hope I can still do a trip before they end the service ( pretty soon I heard ) ...
IVE NEVER SEEN A MORE DYSFUNCTIONAL COUNTRY.
