Game looks really nice but I hope to see the camera movement smoothed out a little before release. Maybe a slight zoom out when characters are close would help as well.
yeah i grew to love rivals 1's static camera. the explosion fx in this are also a bit much, makes it hard to follow

i think between the new camera system and the new fx it can be a bit disorienting or hard to follow whats happening in moments when there are like those explosions on screen, but the game is looking smooth! i hope its as good as the first game.

I feel like this game might have a bit of a skill gap from the year of practice pros have to newer players so hopefully they can make casual queue balanced

If you know how the characters work, you can easily follow what they are doing. It happens in every game , if you don't know what is going on, it feels wierd and random.

Yeah that racoon has a huge whip, which looked fine back in the first rivals of but now that the camera is zoomed in it looks more broken
Don’t get me wrong the character is strong but so is the character that MKleo was playing. The raccoon just looked op cause they were played by someone with tons of rivals experience against someone who doesn’t play rivals as much
Elkiies is the second best Maypul player in the first Rivals of Aether, so it's not surprising that she kinda mopped the floor with Leo here

Yeah those plants are op. Stun locking and can basically drop them to act like a mine if the player has to move across the field
they are very good, but half of it is just day 1 knowledge checks; the one on the ground can be disabled with parry, and most of the wrap stuff can be jumped/di'd/teched out of

@@hoppyknitz9377 Hitting them to disable them has the same result as walking into it. It just leaves you open for an attack. It needs a limit on how many can be put out each stock. Notice how the they just keep using it every time they are getting destroyed. He will throw one out and then rush the opponent to the other end of the stage in which he has to engage the plant or jump on a platform. He abuses the plant and stun lock when getting the beats

There are a lot of people saying the vfx are disorienting, and I felt it too in game one.
Honestly though, it’s just the stupid plant I think. It looks like a background element most of the time, and then sometimes there’s just a giant Neon Explosion. The plant should probably be moved to the foreground for clarity, but honestly, it seems fine once you know what you’re looking for.
The only other time I got lost was when Ranno shoulder tackled behind the archer. 4:19
It looks like some sort of bomb was on him? And got moved to her? While he crossed up and reverse hit. The bomb effect was too thick to see most of who was hit, and I was genuinely shocked when I saw her fall instead of Ranno.
I guess the point is, there’s a learning curve to watching this game casually. Maybe the devs want to do something about that, maybe not. I didn’t feel this about Rivals 1, having only watched like 15 or so sets, so take that for what it is. (Obviously the series prides itself on it’s obtuse character specific status effects, I’m not asking for less of those. Just be aware that the game might be harder to get into (at this prerelease state lol))

Rivals of Aether is very unknown in France for some reason (I'm also French). I think it's because there is 0 video content on it, no youtuber / streamer plays it. But it's really good, RoA 1 is one of the best fighters of all time, and there are at least 300 well-made, somewhat balanced characters in the rivals workshop (modded chars).
Every game needs competition. Hopefully this makes nintendo try harder on smash 6. (Netcode)😂

@@cosmic5665 the only reason "competition" can be valuable is because maybe Nintendo will follow suit and create the options/modes that other games have. IE: if people like the ability to insta-breakout of grabs that Rivals2 has, by all means I want Smash to steal/copy that system, to "keep up" with what other games do

Trust me, I like smash bros but you have to understand that no game is perfect, smash has problems and rivals is not trying to be like smash and it's arguably better than smash but that's just personal preference
I hope to see the UI & VFX get a bit more polish as, while it does look nice, it can feel lacking & unclear, leaving a lot to be desired. In particular, MayPul's VFX feel very obfuscating & the % reset after a death leaves a lot to be desired; personally I'd like the % break away & drop off the bottom of the screen when a player is killed; a slight delay added before 0% pops up again, timed with the player respawn; right now it feels way too fast & sort of lackluster.

The stage? The stage isn't busy at all, it's just a simple battlefield type map. The only confusing part about this game is not knowing what the abilities do, it feels like watching Sonic in SSBU as a non-player.

Watching any of these other platform fighters really makes you appreciate just how good Smash is.
Watching this particular platform fighter makes it ever apparent how uncompetitive ultimate's mechanics are.
Personally rivals feels way smoother and nicer to play and also this is pre alpha footage the game is almost a year away from release so 🤷
