My guest this week has an incredibly inspiring story. Codie Sanchez started her career as a journalist covering human trafficking, and was confronted with extreme violence and the worst of humanity on a daily basis. Realising that she didn’t want to be someone who, in her own words, had to ‘fight for a living’ she decided to take a hard pivot into finance. Since entering the world of finance, Codie became partner at private equity firm EEC, and built First Trust’s $1 billion+ AUM Latin America business. She’s also the co-founder of ‘Unconventional Acquisitions’ and the founder of ‘Contrarian Thinking’ who have a mission to bring more people into financial freedom. In the conversation we talk about how, just like Codie’s career, human beings don’t have linear paths, we talk about the question of whether you need periods of struggle in order to achieve wealth, happiness and success. As well as advice for women in the workplace and leadership and we finish by covering a handful of truths that will make you more money than any business degree. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

100%. I want to not only stay ahead of the game, but to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence. I am very excited about what the future has to offer. We truly live at a very cool time in history. My attitude is that if we ignore all the BS going on in the world and focus on the good stuff then our lives will improve by leaps and bounds.

The Market have been suffering over the past month, with all the three indexes recording losses in recent weeks. My $400,000 portfolio is down by approximately 20%, any recommendations to scale up my returns before retirement will be highly appreciated.

For the average person, the strategies are fairly demanding. In actuality, most professionals who have the necessary expertise to pull off such trades effectively carry them out.

It comes down to technique; a downtrend gives you room to focus on the market and grow significantly in the short or long term. While it is easier to make money when the market is rising, a downtrend can still yield high returns if you have the necessary knowledge and skills. For this reason, I have been scaling up during this difficult period by working with an investment advisor; this has been the only way I have raised up to $150K in the last 3 months.

What's amazing about this conversation is when Ali disagrees with Codie on her point that happiness is struggle, Codie refutes Ali by “agreeing with” Ali first before attacking Ali's home base by implying his understanding of “struggle” is wrong (“maybe we need a different definition of struggle”) . This feels like a dexterous move in taichi.

Yeah that just tells me that there’s not really one way to look at things or plan things to be happy and successful. Just figure out what works for someone personally until it doesn’t. To me struggle is different from suffering. You can struggle with something externally but you don’t have to suffer about it.

When she described people not liking her because she was focused at work that resonated with me so much. This happens even in education. I don’t come to work to socialize and make friends! But at the same time I’ve come to understand that people who don’t have a big vision for their life have more mental room to care about things that people who are focused on their dream just don’t. This jobs is a stepping stone, not where I plan to stay.

I am joseph from Cameroon, I love these ideas, the only problem is finding a good way to apply them in my current context.
I was discussing with someone this morning and what I found is the human nature craves some amount of struggle.
"Dying is easy", they say but we would rather live on our knees in the hope that tomorrow we can stand.
    Thanks again for this episode.

DO NOT flirt in every company you
Work at. A lot of businesses at least the ones that I’ve heard of, don’t do background checks and if they do, most managers don’t tell employees which workers are “predators”
So if you are gonna work the “flirt” angle to get ahead, be aware that you’re opening a door you might not be able to close whenever you want.
