    Hi Ben, I'm currently in Corp Dev at a ~40B company. Can I leverage that to break into PE or I have to do a MBA first. Thank you!

    • @JayNarayanan
      @JayNarayanan Рік тому +2

      Pretty sure you can leverage that into getting a PE role provided you can show decent transaction experience and network hard enough. If you have more than 3 years of experience, it would be better to do an MBA, as the work ex requirement is right around the corner.

    Having left your job in banking, did you find the golden handcuffs hard to reconcile with? Leveraging a lot of financial security and lifestyle creep against one's happiness must be a difficult one. Are there a lot of unhappy people in this sector or are most people cool with the whole thing?

    Currently working in a back end role in a PE house. Do you have any advice how I could help myself migrate to an investment associate/assistant role without having to leave the company? Currently doing the wall street prep premium course but if you know of anything else that could help me out it would be much appreciated!

      hm that's tough i would think though that doing a really good job at your current firm and networking to see if you can join as an entry level analyst may be worth a try. showing that you can model would be helpful as well so great that you're taking efforts to learn how to do that. good luck!!

    • @rareliquid

      no not really because PE involves a very specific type of modeling (LBOs) that aren't applicable to investments in equities if that's what you're referring to. financial modeling (DCFs and comps) would be more applicable

    I am actually planning to do my masters next year from HEC paris which is one of the best schools in the world

      not entirely sure what the landscape of PE is like in europe but if it's anything like the US, then without banking experience it'll hard to join a PE shop post a masters unless it's a small boutique. would defer more to your classmates and see if anyone has been able to recruit for PE with a similar background / situation as yours

      not sure about PE exits though. and they might as well prefer native French for PE who know the culture well.
      i looked in teams of EU PE firms think (CVC, Advent, EQT, hg, Permira), etc and they were locals and no internationals so pls do due diligence of the landscape before landing in france.

    Hi! So I've got 3 years left in my university (Bachelor's in business management) and I've just wrapped up an internship at a management consulting firm doing private M&A.
    I've only ever had case competitions for PE, nothing professional.
    Do you recommend I start trying for PE for my second internship (I've only got 4 internships left to spend on before graduation) or try to build my way there using IBD internships first?
    Also, what season would you say is best for applying to PE in terms of competition - after summer (August-Dec) or before summer (Jan-May)? Thanks!
