Ozzy wrote all music from all his albums, plus, the 9th Beethoven's symphony, Bach's cantatas, Chopin's capriccios and Mozart's etudes, everybody knows that, Plus, he's a very honest man who credits all his musicians and never ripps them off.
@@thomassiwajek1769 I enjoy the heck out of music, but I cant imagine wasting sooo much time chronicling, and just TALKING about it, ...what a vapid life. AFAIK Eddie never bothered to pick up an instrument himself thru the years...? At least I started playing guitar in 1986 and still do every day. Im nothing special, but I do play and sing in a half way decent Alice in Chains tribute --> ua-cam.com/channels/IORYRNmOeiBLE18iDIO_MA.html
Yeh I got that impression. I just hate it when an interviewer has that agenda, to try and get a quote that pays their bills. Don like many of his ilk, know how to be on guard for that. I suppose we all want to hear the dirty truth, but for people such as Don that's usually a career killer.
Anybody who remembers Don Airey's brilliant work with the legendary Colosseum II knows that he was one of the best and most underrated musicians in English rock. I always felt a little sad that he spent the next 40 years as a hired hand, who always suppressed his own great talent for the sake of the song (and the band). Thank God he finally ended up in Purple, where keyboards are such a vital part of the overall sound of the band
Colosseum II were a _phenomenal_ band, there are some live recordings of them in action on youtube. Some of the best parts are Airey and Gary Moore trading solos.
Don could have trashed Ozzy's lack of input into the songs like so many others and didn't, and only spoke of his intro to Mr Crowley in an offhand way. All the while he was the band member that was rarely mentioned and still gives Ozzy props. He is a class act.
the biggest joke of the metal world is when you are reading the credits of "Bark At The Moon" album and you see "all music and lyrics by Ozzy Osbourne"...Shame on the one who gave the idea for this to be written(i am suspecting of a specific woman...) and shame on Ozzy who accepted this!!
Ozzy probably didn't even know it till millions had been sold. Sharon just tells him where he needs to be and what he needs to do, she handles everything else.
I doubt the credit refers to the man Ozzy Osbourne but the band Ozzy Osbourne. It seems like a simple way of saying the whole band had an input. Believe what you will but that is what I think.
@@rustyrelicsfarm2406 You can hum a melody all day long, won't make a song without lyrics or music. Otherwise Ozzy wouldn't need songwriters doing the work he takes credit for.
I could hardly watch that metal show because of him and that other idiot don jamison. The other guy Jim whatever his name was wasn't too bad but eddie trunk is a complete douchebag. And don jamison was nothing but an ass kissing unfunny dickhead. All eddie trunk does is try to stir shit up and think he's smarter than everyone else
A TRUE GENTLEMAN is what Don Airey always was, he wants to make sure everyone got credit. Listen, I am a Jake and Randy fan. I love Carmine and Aldridge and I am thankful for the great music.
+Felony Strutter It's refreshing to hear someone compliment someone else's talent in a band...someone that has good reason to have some hard feelings toward that person, but chooses to take the high road anyway. Especially these days! He's one class act.
I saw Don Airey in 1987 when he played with Jethro Tull on their “Crest of a Knave” tour. He did a fantastic job as well as playing a great keyboard solo mid way through the show.
I have mad respect for Ozzy and the musicians that made up The Blizzard of Ozz band. Ozzy isn't a stupid man. In my opinion, he's like a film or music producer. He gives some much needed ideas or feedback on ideas/topics for songs, lyrics, melodies, and what direction the song(s) should be heading into. Like Don Airey said, "Ozzy runs a tight ship.", and that's exactly why Ozzy has been a successful solo artist for 40 years. :-)
I saw Randy on the Diary tour in Indianapolis in February '82, just a few weeks before he died. I was in absolute shock when I read the article in the paper. As a guitarist, Randy was a huge influence on me. I can't imagine what the band members felt after witnessing this tragedy.
That whole story is bullshit. Roads was abusing hormone drugs to keep up the act that the entity was a male and it was killing him/her so, they had to create a way out so, they killed the character off, they do it all the time. These entities are not the same race as us humans they flip flop their gender to whatever role they need , sometimes the hormone therapy doesn't take and the entity has to be changed out. entertainment is all bullshit 98% of them even play two or more roles.
THIS IS WHY MANY DISLIKE EDDIE....how many times in this clip did he try and "lead the witness" i.e. put words in the man's mouth?? and thankfully everytime he was corrected!
This. you are spot on. Eddie sat there 3 times trying to goad him into saying Ozzy had no talent, or similar. I hate this style of journalism. It's like CNN has invaded Music interviews. One time was sufficient, and no need to keep at him, regardless of how Ozzy behaved.
Bc Eddie doesn't know when to shut the fuck up and let the guest speak!! He's a shit interviewer and every interview I hear with him proves it. Let the guest answer the question HIS OWN WAY!!
Eddie Trunk is classless. He's always trying to be negative. Trying to push his idea that Ozzy had no talent, well Don had more class than that. He's trying to make trouble between Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons, and Ace never falls for it. More like Eddie Flunk. Lol ! You can use that
aldo1999 I'm talking about showing some respect and guess what , those with class like Don, shows respect. Eddie Flunk is trying to raise negative issues
He also always tries to fuel the fire about the songwriting credits thing when he interviews jake. He keeps pushing the subject after everything has already been said.
@@aldo1999 Hahaha. Ozzy is a fucking god. His lack of input is made up by Ozzy being fucking Ozzy. Listen to Waiting For Darkness and tell me he has no talent. Fuck outta here with that bullshit.
Don Airey, the most underrated keyboard player in the history of Rock and Roll! He is just awesome in Deep Purple! He is right up there with Emerson and Wakeman as far as I'm concerned!
@@mattbarbarich3295 I thought that was a given as John Lord is the one he replaced in DP. Being a keyboard player myself I see Don Airey as a more rounded player who was obviously classically trained. He has demonstrated during his career so much more versatility than John. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely a fan and playing some of his compositions aren't a walk in the park either.
@@KryptonitetoallBS You don't know what you're talking about dude. Ozzy hits difficult notes with ease, plays harmonica and has some of the best melodies in Rock. If you were a musician you'd know.
Yeah, but he really didn't. Especially on the first two albums. He still claims he wrote Suicide Solution, supposedly about Bon Scott, when in reality Bob Daisley wrote it about Ozzy. Bon Scott was still alive when it was written. The Osbourne's are professionally full of shit.
Bob Daisley also stated in an interview that it was a different keyboardist they were working with that originally wrote the part. Then Airey took it and tweaked it into what we have on Crowley. He wasn't slagging Airey, just talking about the writing process of the original album that he did with Rhoads. Bob stated that Ozzy's sole contributions were to hum vocal melodies over tapes of the songs that he and Rhoads had written. Then Daisley would take that vocal melody and write lyrics to match. He stated that Ozzy had a good sense of vocal melody, but he never wrote lyrics and certainly never wrote any music.
itkojecockot Thank you but these assholes don't listen or research their "facts". The truth is Daisley worked with Ozzy through to the Ozzmosis album. Its ridiculous. If he screwed him over so much why did he keep taking lump sum checks for his work? These idiots don't know anything about Ozzy.
Yep. Sharon was most likely also responsible for that stupid family-oriented TV show they did, which I think pretty much tarnished Ozzy's career. It's all about money folks..
There is a lot of conjecture here! Anyone who understands music knows that unless a singer plays an instrument such as guitar has little impact on the overall structure of a song, so obviously Ozzy didn’t make them. Ozzy might come up with an idea for a song including the title and what it’ll be about then the respective musicians create the tempo and vibe to best suit the aim and intention behind it. For example, Ozzy wrote some of the lyrics from Crazy Train then Randy basically invented the whole song. So yeah, people like Bob Daisley, Jake E Lee and Zakk Wylde are more than rightly deserving of their well overdue writing credits and recognition for their contributions to the band... But of course not, because Sharon rakes in all the money generated through his music.
Airey is a legend , played with big names in rock , but on alot of those diary shows , he sounds like he is playing drunk. Wierd improvs and keyboard sounds , and switching effects in odd sections.
I have dozens of bootlegs as I used to trade them in the 90's. Most can be found on UA-cam already so I don't bother posting them- I'm sure I have some really rare ones. I want to believe Airey here, but what he's saying goes directly against what everyone else has said from that era and he clearly has rose colored glasses of that time. Ozzy was the hook, Randy was the true talent and star and Daisy/Kerslake were the foundation. Ozzy and Sharen's attempts to rewrite those historical realities is just despicable. Ozzy has ability and talents, but when someone essentially writes their own legend, it never looks good. Sharon is clearly the main problem and likely the instigator of all of the stupidly selfish decisions that have been made, but she's also a big reason why Ozzy has been able to keep himself together all of these years. It just sucks this great music is so tainted.
Blizzard of Ozz is one of the greatest band names ever. Along w that the story of Randy’s death is so insanely rock and roll too that for me it all just fit perfectly.
Ozzy is a front man not an opera singer and is as iniquie and wierdly charismatic as they come. His talent is as much about his persona on stage as anything.
Ozzy has said he tries to surround him self with the best musicians knowing his own short comings as a musician. He firstly admits he can't sing, which he has the most distinct voice is rock. He definetly does play an instrument. He's smart that way. He knows what he's got and builds with that by adding better people around him.
+DAVID MATHEWS/The Minerals He plays the harmonica and it seems like I've seen him play the piano at some point...not on stage of course. I know it doesn't take a musical genius to play harmonica, but it is an instrument.
"Ozzy was taking a tremendous chance putting a band together." Yeahhh.... because there's were so many "safer" opportunities for Ozzy to have been doing with his life at that point... he'd have been really great at accounting... hmmm, maybe not.... or there was Ozzy the police officer... OK, maybe not... Ozzy the retail clerk, maybe? Nah, I think a band was that dude's best bet. And I think he should have paid you if you wrote something.
Ozzy put up the 30,000 to get the band going. It's all he had left from Sabbath. So yeah it was a risk to put all of your life into a band that could've easily never went anywhere and ruined his chances are he to try again as a failure. Fans are unforgiving when you put out a poor or misunderstood product.
Don Airey is a professional and as nice a guy youd ever want. What he says you can take as the Gospel. Ozzy isnt a no talent hack and really only people who write songs knows what Ozzys melodies and hooks did for the songs.
David Topchiev, damn it is refreshing to hear and read some pro-Ozzy statements for a change. I've loved the Ozz since the late 80's, and he still is one of my favorite metal stars. It was pissing me off reading all the negative shit directed at Ozzy these last few years. There will NEVER be another Ozzy Osbourne!
Listen closely to older Black Sabbath with Ozzy, it's beautiful. It's Jazz, its classical, it's very melodic and rhythmic. What is the difference between the human voice and a trumpet, flute, saxophone, harmonica, etc? It's the most portable instrument there is. He could have learned and excelled at any instrument if he had wanted to, IMO.
It was a band, It was "Blizzard of Ozz". Google the phrase "Blizzard of Ozz" and go to images, you will find Promo Pictures from their management labeled "Blizzard of Ozz". I think it became "Ozzy Osbourne" when Sharon got control of Ozzy's career.
yeah, the early Sabbath albums worked only because of those weird Ozzy vocals..... Dio did great albums with the band..... but with Dio, they had to change style to more melodic/hard rock to make it work, cause Dio obviously didn't fit the first era of Sabbath with his voice.....
itkojecockot Not only because of Ozzy, he was part of the reason, but you need all those other three inputs to make it work. Ultimately, it wouldn't be much with Tony and his riffs and solos.
A lot of the best singers are not what people would traditionally call good singers. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, James Brown, etc. Ozzy falls into that category as well. Unique one of a kind vocal sound.
@@CelestialWoodway Exactly; Ozzy sounds like nobody but himself, and while he wasn't technically a virtuoso singer, none of our memories could have possibly been the same without his vocals on the soundtrack of our youth. The idea of anybody else replacing him on those first eight Sab albums: _blasphemy!_

When it comes to ozzy, he was more than lucky to have been surrounded by great musicians and should have been a bigger man spreading the love money and credit around. He is a unique singer and has his sound but it was a collective contribution by all that brought it to life. Anyway...
LET'S FACE IT.... OZZY HAS SCREWED OVER MOST OF THE MUSICIANS THAT HAVE BEEN IN "HIS" BAND!! ...AND, I'M SAYING THIS AS A FAN! ....IT'S JUST THE TRUTH!!
Hey, Ralph. Lou Mavs here from the Facebook R&MCP page. Thanks for sharing this clip. Don Airey strikes me as a standup individual, who still has a job playing music as a member of Deep Purple. And...he proved you right about Ozz. Cheers.
Amen, there's the truth! If Bob Daisely was sooo great as he portrays, then why the hell didnt he start his own band and sell millions of records??? Thank you
Ozzy absolutely has the "midas touch". All he touches turns to gold...the saying goes. Dude is in the RARHOF in 2 separate bands! (that doesn't happen to untalented people) . I think the only thing that would cement his legacy even further, ...is if he wasn't over-worked as a vocalist. I saw him about 10 times and I think half of those gigs he was way too hoarse... Thanks management. (oh yeah...the other 5 gigs were AWESOME!)
If you read ozzy's book, diary of a madman, you would see that he was taken under Don Ardens daughters wing (now Sharon Osbourne) his wife. She's the brains and marketing behind OZZY, without her he would have faded into obscurity and/or drank himself to death.
She pulled him out his motel room, saving him, thats for sure, but its because she recognized his potential. Last I remember, she didn't write the songs, sing the tunes, play the guitar, or play the bass. Those first two Ozzy solo albums were classic albums and really had nothing to do with Sharon. Paul, you probably could have managed them to some level of success too, the songs were that good...
Sharon ripped off all of ozzy's musicians and treated them like shit, Bob Daisley wrote most of Blizzard of Oz and never received any credit. True story.
Dude, it's no secret that Ozzy's management (cough Sharon cough) has been fucking over the musicians in the band over writing credits since day one. It's natural that Eddie's gonna want to talk about it. And let's be honest, it's what people want to hear about too.
well today he talked about Ozzy's solo tour. He was making fun of his singing, saying he should call it quits. I'm not saying Ozzy is fantastic but he's no worst than he was 30 years ago and Eddie is quick to praise bon jovi, Paul Stanley and Steven Tyler who aren't young either.
Eddie Trunk seems to have a personal vendetta against Sharon (understandable) that he takes out on Ozzy. I remember during an interview on NY Q104.3's Rockline somewhere around '95 that he made some out of line insinuations about her directly to Ozzy, and his level of nastiness and negativity has only gotten worse since. I'm sick to death of hearing Ozzy is a no talent. I know age and drug use have taken their toll, but to say he never had talent, never wrote or contributed to any of his owns songs is just pure BS, and that is what Eddie Trunk seems to be intent on pushing. Used to think of him as a metal expert - lately I couldn't think any less of him.
Anybody who says Ozzy has no talent doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. He may not be the best singer technically, but that doesn't matter when you have one of the most recognizable and charismatic voices in the history of rock, apart from being one of the best frontmen ever.
Yeah, toward the end when he kept trying to push and push the narrative that Ozzy can't write anything, Airey just handled that like an absolute pro. "You can play him anything and he'll sing a song" I think is what we've all known for years. Any real Sabbath/Ozzy fan will also know that yes, Ozzy has in fact contributed some of his own lyrics over the years. Eddie Trunk is an insufferable mouth breathing twat sometimes.
Ozzy had a knack for making certain words pop. Great with melody and hooks and that's not something that everybody in music has. He was an incredible live performer and true lunatic. Talent can mean fuck all sometimes. When we were kids we didn't care who wrote what. We just simply enjoyed a stereo and an album.
Regardless of where the talent came from, it was the sound of ozzy's voice that grabbed me. He can do covers, it wouldnt matter. Nobody sounds like him and THAT people is what made him OZZY
do you mean you still enjoy Ozzy singing even thought there was no music background? You are a big fan of rapper? Even you say yes, the problem was the lyric was not from himself either! Without other talent, Ozzy was nothing, while other working hard to writing the song, he was doing nothing, sitting there and drunk! if what you said was true, why he need the band? In fact, he pick his band members very picky, if you are correct, he don't need to doing that, because he know better than anybody, he need some talent around him to make him success, he was a real Ass hole, he steal other talent for himself, i used to a big fan of Ozzy until i realize Ozzy was a Ass hole!
@@waiman7223 I agree with you 100%. It just shows how gullible the general public CAN be at times if someone has an image that they think is cool. Ozzy is a simpleton who has never been able to sing, but loved to get wasted. Why would anyone admire that? He's a village idiot!!!
I am surprised that Ozzy is still alive. I have done my share of drugs in my younger days, most of us have.. But I never tripped on acid everyday for a year. Lmao Airey seems like a real nice fellow.
"we never did a bad show as far as I remember" Well, I remember... San Berdoo ~'81, Ozzy was so messed up I was convinced he'd be dead in 6 months. The rest of the band was tight though.
Exactly......this guy is being kind but there were plenty of not great shows with Ozzy.....and he knows it. It's cool that he doesn't see the need to trash him 40 years later though.
Munich 1988, Wylde's first tour with the big man. After a shaky overall performance (he was shit faced), Ozzy fell down the rear stage riser after the last song played and from where I was thought he broke his neck. Of course, there was no encore. Lotta fun tho. Cheers!
Very well said, it was a Band, in spite of Sharon Arden, as it was the guys who wrote the music, Ozzy a part of it. But it was a group effort. The most amazing frontman and voice would've had nothing to sing, man, had it not been the band's teamwork.
Blizzard had a unique sound because of two things Ozzy's voice and Randy's guitar. Separate either and you've got No More Tears and Quiet Riot. Anyone who thinks singing isn't difficult can't hold a tune and probably shouldn't be flaunting their complete ignorance.
Jaimeras, Dumb-ass? I have news for you. back then nobody cared about who wrote the lyrics. Read my post again. I said they had a unique sound. You could have expressed yourself without resorting to name calling, but you're just a hater. A pathetic loser who can't stand anyone with a different opinion. I'd go as far as to say a social justice warrior punk.
Singing is very difficult and I always find my limits. I go out and sing karaoke on the weekends. And have had offers and been in bands in the past. I have never had any vocal training and can sing low or quite high. Not bragging or giving myself credit. I also play guitar as well and come up with my own riffs. Music is a big part of my life. That all said, Ozzy doesn't get all the credit he deserves. He made the main sound in Black Sabbath as well as his solo albums. And blending with the great musicians he was with was perfect chemistry. I have seen him multiple times solo and with Sabbath. Never a disappointing experience.
I went to the Blizzard of OZZ Tour and saw the original band. They were great on every level, not just the singer. Motorhead opened up the show and OZZY was the headliner at the Long Beach Arena. Just lights, fog, smoke and heavy duty rock and roll!!! The best 1st concert EVER!!! Don Airey is a class act in every way.
I remember when Randy was alive, how Ozzy didn’t give Randy full credit for the music he wrote. It’s systemic, Ozzy did not give credit properly to the people around him. And Btw, it wasn’t for Randy R. THERE WOULD BE NO OZZY.
@@ThailandXpress Randy probably would've just stayed in L.A because he had students + wanted to study classical music at UCLA so yeah if it wasn't for Ozzy he wouldn't have been so big
Eddie Trunk: "Well, yeah, Ozzy needs a band around him because everyone knows he can't write songs or lyrics (he basically said he sucks) Don Airey: "Well, actually no he DOES write songs...AND lyrics.....he's bloody brilliant and a great singer/front man." Eddie Trunk: "oh, whatever."
It's sad how some people need to spare their hero so they blame his wife who 'somehow' made decisions in his best financial interests for years while he said nothing. Sure, he'll let her be the unpopular one so simpletons can continue to support him while they both take in the cash. If Ozzy didn't agree with the practices, he had decades to do right by the many musicians who have been taken advantage of by his operation.
As much as I like Eddie his vendetta against Ozzy is a bit tiring and in all honesty I think most of it is jealousy that a lot of the bands he liked and who he is ‘Buddies’ with never did anything after the onslaught of 80s music.
+Captain Sunday. Listen to this interview again. He tries and fails to get Don to say something disparaging about Ozzy by posing leading questions. Don responds by negating the implications and accusations in the questions. Eddie comes across as an amateur dirt digger. Eddie's suggestions that Ozzy's someone who can't write lyrics or compose and surrounds himself with band members who are able to do this for him is gently but forcefully rebuffed by Don. Need any more explaining?
Ozzy has always said, that the song Black Sabbath was the first song he ever wrote in his life. He has said it live many times. So of course Ozzy can write lyrics. lol
@@Brian-qg8dg Yes but I believe Ozzy was claiming he wrote the lyrics to the song. He has said it live many times like I mentioned. And of course Geezer wrote a lot of lyrics for songs as well. Not taking that away from him. lol
in nashville sessions work like that everyday... ozzy's talent is being ozzy, which is far harder and more unique of a talent than writing a song intro... ...
The band was Blizzard Of Ozz. Ozzy comes up with melodies and SOME lyrics. Bod Daisley and Lee Kerslake and Randy Rhodes wrote the music and the lyrics in the main for his so-called solo career. Sharon swindled them out of millions in royalties. She backed Randy into a corner too amd made him stay amd play with Ozzy else he wouldn't receive his royalties or indeed even his monies for his part in the band. Disgusting.
where did you get that Darth Hideous backed Randy into a corner, he was going to get royalties no matter what, she offered him a management fee which he turned down because he did not think he should be paid more than the others.
Don was being to kind to Ozzy ..making excuses for why he simply didn't get what he deserved. How hard would it have been to include Don's name on credit for Mr. Crowley. I guarantee if Randy lived & left Ozzy when said he was going to he also would have had to fight for his money.
Glad to see somebody else loved that sabatoge record as much as i did. His voice was at its best then. Like the tune the writ, "listen to me my life is in this song, you just might take the words all wrong" been the truth for ozzy his whole life.
Thank you Ozzy and all the band members. He blew up in conjunction with the economic prosperity - you guys were rich back then at the time of inception. Just because you offered brilliant things that can't be redone today.
Ozzy wrote lyrics on Sabbath bloody Sabbath, my favorite album of theirs. You need all four for it to sound like Sabbath. Solo Ozzy is what it is because of all involved.
Ozzy needed Iommi,he needed Randy,he needed Jake, and no more tears was all written by somebody else completely. That about covers his good albums. Ozzy alone is nothing.
He is Fucking OZZY ,The man is a legend who cares who wrote what ,It's quite obvious without him none of these other guys would have been shit. The man is know for making the careers of other musicians.I guess people forget Ozzy was famous for years before any of the other guys in the band were even heard of...
I would love to see the proof. Ozzy is a MASTER melodic and lyrical genius. Where have you been. Iommi wrote the guitar riffs and Ozzy wrote most of the melody and lyrics. They worked together as a band but Ozzy's talent is legendary for how many decades? You can hear it on all the albums he's produced.
Joe Kewl I stand corrected. Butler does have first billing on all (that I found) song credits. The lyrist usually gets first billing (I know because I wrote lyrics for a band and received my name first though I had nothing to do with the music.) Keeping that in mind Ozzy also is listed second or third for both Sabbath and his solo work. Where he doesn't play an instrument except hamonica/vocals his only contributions, if I'm to believe credits, are melodic.
Tommy Dolan Thanks Tom but your a little late. Which Tommy Dolan on Facebook are you. The guitar tutor or the one with no friend button but a million friends.
Ozzy IS talented, the man’s a genius when it comes to melodies/lyrical composition - he’s achieved many things and the fact the Eddie is trying to diss him is just ridiculous.
Eddie has an agenda and it's based on controversy. The more he stirs the pot the more publicity he gets and that's job security. He doesn't care if people tune in to him because they like them, hate him or think he's good at what he does. He just does anything possible to make sure they tune in. In this interview it was insinuating Ozzy has a lack of writing and vocal skill, next interview it'll be something else.
It's Eddie Trunk, what do you expect lol. He's a kiss ass to every rocker and says so much negative crap. I can't stand this guy like he' s spoiled in the rock world, he gets too much. F this guy, I can't stand him. Showoff and look at me i'm hanging out with rockers and I know these guys. Yeah relax dude lol
Ozzy taking a TREMENDOUS chance putting a band together. That is a ridiculous thing to say. Nice guy but you don't have to cover for them anymore, people know!
This guy comes in after the fact!!! Daisley and Randy and Kerslake were the main reason for the band Blizzard of Oz’s success. Yes, Bob has given credit to Ozzy for his small contributions in writing lyrics/songs; by coming up with certain melodies, and certain lyrical phrasings. Almost everyone around ozzy, at that time; if honest, would say he was always drunk and high off his ass to even think of lyrics or melodies. His own future father-in-law mocked him in an interview before. Look for the interview on how Lee,Bob, and Randy completely wrote, in a day, the song ‘You Said It All’. Melodies and all. While ozzy was passed out behind stage. Yet regardless, Ozzy is still one of the baddest ass frontmen ever!!! His vocals usually suck live, but he still, even now up in age, puts on a great show. To take nothing away from their collective talents; Blizzard of Oz was started as a bad ass band. Not a solo project. If Suicide Solution is a concoction to slow death. Then The Blizzard of Oz band was a concoction to one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever!!! Each individual ingredient essential to this recipe of incomparable greatness!
I dont even know what musicians get not giving credits.if i were a successful musician i would even give credits to my sound engineer to mix the sound well.
Aleister Crowley's name is pronounced 'CROWley' as in the bird 'Crow' Thats 'Oh' not 'Ow' Not that ozzy had any idea,.. his interest was cosmetic at best.
You sir, are correct. as the saying goes, he's called crowley by those who find him holy. Did you notice that he lied when he said he came up with the keyboard intro to Mr. Crowley by himself instead of telling the truth, that Crowleys Gnostic Mass has a musical part the congregation sings called "the office of anthem" ( written by crowley) that is the keyboard part note for note. But then I'm a Thelemite & i'd know so...93/418
Steve Hunt Did Crowley make you rich and famous? Do you pray to him or use some evocation ceremony? Are you comfortable joining him in the afterlife? What is in the afterlife for you Crowley people? Just curious.
Where did you get those Steve Joule outtakes? I had that booked of BATM w/the guying doing the stages of make up on Ozzy he was the make up artist that did American werewolf in London movie.
Yeah of course, its not like a certain Tony and Terry and Bill met up with a John from the same school and decided to form a band. No, Simon Cowell's grandfather formed them after they won a talent show. That's right, I remember now.
Why does the interviewer keep mentioning Jake E. Lee? Lee was a replacement for RR. Nothing more, nothing less. He wasn't even Ozzy's first choice. Ozzy wanted George Lynch. It was Sharon that overruled Ozzy and hired Lee.
He's lying through his teeth about the keyboard intro to Mr.Crowley. The keyboard is note for note taken from the part of Crowleys Gnostic Mass ( Liber XV ) called " the office of anthem" where the congregation sings. I urge anyone interested to go look up the lyrics & sing them over the introduction & you can see/hear where he took them directly from the Mass . I'm not saying he's not a great keyboardist, Tonight & Goodbye to Romance are great songs that are made by the keyboards more than any other instrument ( no offence to randy rhoades intended ),but he's gotta stop lying about a piece of music that was 70+ yrs old when he stole it. I've read the mass & attended enough to know it & its stolen, wouldn't hurt his reputation @ all to just admit he took it & thats the reason it sounds so appropriate. 93/418
Look under Aliester Crowley Liber XV/gnostic mass on google, sorry mine comes from a book. you could also google the invisible bascilica of sabaceous, probably has it, once found you're looking for whats called, the office of anthem, can prob google that w a /crowley. Hope that helps. 93/93

Yeh I got that impression. I just hate it when an interviewer has that agenda, to try and get a quote that pays their bills. Don like many of his ilk, know how to be on guard for that. I suppose we all want to hear the dirty truth, but for people such as Don that's usually a career killer.
I don't care for Eddie. But an interviewer's job is to try and probe beneath the surface.
Thank God he finally ended up in Purple, where keyboards are such a vital part of the overall sound of the band
well said ....yes , purple ...a good place to land for him
Colosseum II were a _phenomenal_ band, there are some live recordings of them in action on youtube. Some of the best parts are Airey and Gary Moore trading solos.
keyboards were a part of Blizzard of ozz and the sound...
There's a reason Jon Lord picked him as his own replacement in Purple.
Don could have trashed Ozzy's lack of input into the songs like so many others and didn't, and only spoke of his intro to Mr Crowley in an offhand way. All the while he was the band member that was rarely mentioned and still gives Ozzy props. He is a class act.
He's just speaking the truth, not trying to be 'politically correct'.

the biggest joke of the metal world is when you are reading the credits of "Bark At The Moon" album and you see "all music and lyrics by Ozzy Osbourne"...Shame on the one who gave the idea for this to be written(i am suspecting of a specific woman...) and shame on Ozzy who accepted this!!
Ozzy probably didn't even know it till millions had been sold. Sharon just tells him where he needs to be and what he needs to do, she handles everything else.
"didn't even know it till millions had been sold"...so you mean that the never hold a copy of the album in his hands when it was released? lol
not to defend ozzy, but even if he had a copy of the album, i doubt he would have been sober enought to read the credits
I doubt the credit refers to the man Ozzy Osbourne but the band Ozzy Osbourne. It seems like a simple way of saying the whole band had an input. Believe what you will but that is what I think.

Poor Don. He saw Randy's plane crash. He saw all of it. I can't imagine going through a friend dying, let alone seeing the exact moment he died.

Don Airey was also on many of those great Michael Schenker albums too.

Pay Jake!!!
And yet she saved Mr Osbourne's life! It's a double-edged sword.
Tony Cruse well, Ozzy is Sharon's "cash cow" so offcourse she saved his life..... who do you think she makes the most money out of ?
Yep. Sharon was most likely also responsible for that stupid family-oriented TV show they did, which I think pretty much tarnished Ozzy's career. It's all about money folks..
Actually in Bob's book they had another player come in before Don who wrote the intro to Crowley....Those are Bob's words.
Ozzy had what a rock singer needs - stage charisma. Being memorable is a talent in itself.
"Never had a bad show"... umm, my bootleg collection would like to have something to say about that.
Start posting these bootlegs.
Airey is a legend , played with big names in rock , but on alot of those diary shows , he sounds like he is playing drunk. Wierd improvs and keyboard sounds , and switching effects in odd sections.
Ozzy and Randy sounded drunk on Tribute.
I think thats very true. What bootlegs you got? Im not into trading ozzy, im into gnr bootlegs but i was just curious.

Don Airey is a professional and as nice a guy youd ever want. What he says you can take as the Gospel. Ozzy isnt a no talent hack and really only people who write songs knows what Ozzys melodies and hooks did for the songs.
Exactly. Ive always said that a good piece of music is worthless if the vocal melodies are no good.
And Ozzy plays Harmonica and quite well too imo. So yea, he knows 2 instruments: vocals and harmonica.
OZZY IS A NO-TALENT PIECE OF SHIT!
Ozzy is not the best singer technically but his unique voice is second to non when it comes to Black Sabbath style. Ozzy is legend.
yeah, the early Sabbath albums worked only because of those weird Ozzy vocals..... Dio did great albums with the band..... but with Dio, they had to change style to more melodic/hard rock to make it work, cause Dio obviously didn't fit the first era of Sabbath with his voice.....
I agree Ozzy vocals are like a combination of despair, sadness and wildness. Is like coming out of a dark void.
itkojecockot
Not only because of Ozzy, he was part of the reason, but you need all those other three inputs to make it work. Ultimately, it wouldn't be much with Tony and his riffs and solos.

He just confirmed that Ozzy is a very talented person

Ozzy had a knack for making certain words pop. Great with melody and hooks and that's not something that everybody in music has. He was an incredible live performer and true lunatic.

And if there was no Ozzy, you would have never heard of R.R...
@@Lemmy905 Bullshit. You really think Randy Rhoads wouldn't have found another way? It was 1979, guitar ruled the fucking world.
True, he could have joined KISS and wrote lick it up, we know how famous Vinnie Vincent became don't we??
@@ThailandXpress Randy probably would've just stayed in L.A because he had students + wanted to study classical music at UCLA so yeah if it wasn't for Ozzy he wouldn't have been so big
@@ThailandXpress guess what ozzy and randy made it, you didn't, your nothing.
All my respect and admiration to Don Airey.
I seen Ozzy and Randy at the Cow palace.
SPECIAL- T
My first concert ever was Ozzy at the Cow Palace. Bark at the Moon tour with Jake E Lee
SPECIAL- T saw
Oh sorry, grew up in the east bay !
I saw Ozzy and Randy at the Tower theatre in Upper Darby Pa.
SPECIAL- T
Witty, Special-T.
Eddie you are so sad ! Ozzy has more talent in his little finger that you will ever have .
Eddie Trunk: "Well, yeah, Ozzy needs a band around him because everyone knows he can't write songs or lyrics (he basically said he sucks)
Don Airey: "Well, actually no he DOES write songs...AND lyrics.....he's bloody brilliant and a great singer/front man."
Eddie Trunk: "oh, whatever."
He wrote the song Black Sabbath was his first song
It's sad how some people need to spare their hero so they blame his wife who 'somehow' made decisions in his best financial interests for years while he said nothing. Sure, he'll let her be the unpopular one so simpletons can continue to support him while they both take in the cash. If Ozzy didn't agree with the practices, he had decades to do right by the many musicians who have been taken advantage of by his operation.
musicalappreciation It sounds like you’ve never been married.
As much as I like Eddie his vendetta against Ozzy is a bit tiring and in all honesty I think most of it is jealousy that a lot of the bands he liked and who he is ‘Buddies’ with never did anything after the onslaught of 80s music.
Met and talked with Eddie Trunk twice and his true colors are that of a Class A D-bag..........
Explain please
+Captain Sunday. Listen to this interview again. He tries and fails to get Don to say something disparaging about Ozzy by posing leading questions. Don responds by negating the implications and accusations in the questions. Eddie comes across as an amateur dirt digger. Eddie's suggestions that Ozzy's someone who can't write lyrics or compose and surrounds himself with band members who are able to do this for him is gently but forcefully rebuffed by Don. Need any more explaining?
I agree. Met him at a book signing with Jessie James Dupree. Eddie was smug, not friendly at all and Jessie was really cool.
That is a class act right there !
That is loyalty.
Ozzy has always said, that the song Black Sabbath was the first song he ever wrote in his life. He has said it live many times. So of course Ozzy can write lyrics. lol
I believe Geezer Butler wrote Black Sabbath and most of the sabbath songs with ozzy
@@Brian-qg8dg Yes but I believe Ozzy was claiming he wrote the lyrics to the song. He has said it live many times like I mentioned. And of course Geezer wrote a lot of lyrics for songs as well. Not taking that away from him. lol
@@atranfanatic Ozzy is full of shit! Its well known Geezer wrote "Black Sabbath" lyrics about an experience he had irl
@@Brian-qg8dg Geezer said that Ozzy wrote the lyrics to Black Sabbath. Ozzy had a handful of songs he contributed lyrics to for Sabbath.
in nashville sessions work like that everyday... ozzy's talent is being ozzy, which is far harder and more unique of a talent than writing a song intro... ...
Daisley and Rhoads made Ozzy....end of story
Randy Brindle oh yeah he definitely wasn’t the vocalist of a huge band before
And Jake picked up the slack when Randy sadly passed. Ozzy died to me when Jake was kicked out for standing up for himself.
Randy Brindle
and me and your mother made you end of story
believe what you want..
Randy Brindle
Okay son
Randy was the best guitar player!!! R.I.P.
love ozzy's voice it really borders on the manic especially on albums like sabotage never say die paranoid master of reality etc
I always thought Sharon ran.a tight ship.
Ozzy wrote lyrics on Sabbath bloody Sabbath, my favorite album of theirs. You need all four for it to sound like Sabbath. Solo Ozzy is what it is because of all involved.
Eddie has become the Perez Hilton of metal.
I'm ashamed that I understand the reference.
@@shoeflytoo I am not proud of it lol
@@weshowell7977 It's okay. We all have our vices, lol.
The man is know for making the careers of other musicians.I guess people forget Ozzy was famous for years before any of the other guys in the band were even heard of...
is there a longer version of this interview somewhere?
Mike Armstrong GZR wrote ALL the lyrics, everyone knows that
Tommy Dolan Thanks Tom but your a little late. Which Tommy Dolan on Facebook are you. The guitar tutor or the one with no friend button but a million friends.
Mike Armstrong myface isnt on spacebook
Mike Armstrong i say juice and sodomite too much they ban me
Ozzy IS talented, the man’s a genius when it comes to melodies/lyrical composition - he’s achieved many things and the fact the Eddie is trying to diss him is just ridiculous.
Can’t stand Eddie. Always stirring the pot.
That photo of Ozzy at 2:31 says it all, you see Sharon in the background waiting...watching...calculating.
Taco Bell is open 24 hrs.
Thanks, Ronnie!!
Ahhh...real & relevant information amidst a flying shitstorm of opinions. now I'm hungry
Not true. I tried to get me a taco at 2 AM and was shut DOWN.
yeah. but fake tacos...
fake or not they still good !!
That's really cool of him to say some nice things about Ozzys writing ability.
The interviewer is annoying
MrMetalMinistry
I'm glad someone included Lee Kerslake in the "got screwed" list.
I dont even know what musicians get not giving credits.if i were a successful musician i would even give credits to my sound engineer to mix the sound well.
right it is a little weird how they allocate songwriting credits, to me if a guy plays an instrument on a song he is part of the song.
Aleister Crowley's name is pronounced 'CROWley' as in the bird 'Crow'
Thats 'Oh' not 'Ow'
Not that ozzy had any idea,.. his interest was cosmetic at best.
But then I'm a Thelemite & i'd know so...93/418
And Germany is pronounced Deutschland and Japan is pronounced Nippon.
....
Steve Hunt
Did Crowley make you rich and famous? Do you pray to him or use some evocation ceremony?
Are you comfortable joining him in the afterlife? What is in the afterlife for you Crowley people? Just curious.
Interesting.
Wonder why Ozzy pronounced it incorrectly?
I went back and listened to it and you're right.
Where did you get those Steve Joule outtakes? I had that booked of BATM w/the guying doing the stages of make up on Ozzy he was the make up artist that did American werewolf in London movie.
Osbourne is a marketing creation
Yeah of course, its not like a certain Tony and Terry and Bill met up with a John from the same school and decided to form a band. No, Simon Cowell's grandfather formed them after they won a talent show. That's right, I remember now.
Sharon Osbourne ran the "tight ship". Ozzy was usually to zonked out to know what day it was....
So don didnt care that the Osbournes screwed over everyone....SMH
evidently Don was treated very well.
Or he's too nice and classy of a guy to make a stink about it or run his mouth nonstop to the press about it. That's a lost art anymore.
rudolfschenker kind of like good cops turningba blind eye to the bad cops on the force....SMH
Trance 9 yes..and he has said so
Why does the interviewer keep mentioning Jake E.
Can you point me in right direction to find this piece ,have looked cant find it
Look under Aliester Crowley Liber XV/gnostic mass on google, sorry mine comes from a book. you could also google the invisible bascilica of sabaceous, probably has it, once found you're looking for whats called, the office of anthem, can prob google that w a /crowley. Hope that helps. 93/93
I dont know how to do a link, sorry, but checked, type Aliester Crowley Liber XV, click on the OTO library link that has the latinn "Eccleasia Gnosticae catholica cannon missae" its the whole mass & like I said your looking for "the office of anthem", sinng the versses to your self a few times & you'll see exactly what I mean that he stole it, heck everybody in my church knows its stolen, lol
You are absolutely right...he is lying through his teeth...he stole it.
Warren552011 Where do I find this?? To do a link you just hold the top where you type and then hit copy. Come back here and hit paste. Thats if your on a phone. I gotta hear this. Its my favorite piece of music. Love that intro. Would love to find what your talking about. Thanks
