    One of the best bassists, and I'm proud to call him a friend. True story: met and played with Rudy at the rock n Roll fantasy camp and he later adds me on Facebook and I even had him talk on the phone with my dear friend/bandmate Grant Winand, who died of cancer 4 days later. In short, everything you heard about Rudy being a sweetheart is 100% true, and I'm proud to call him a friend! God bless him!

    Randy Rhoads was a very bright light, and for Rudy to be able to be seen AT ALL while on stage with Randy speaks volumes for his stage presence and charisma. The fact that his music from 30+ years ago is still revered today is a testament to how amazing the band is that Ozzy put together.

    I met Rudy Sarzo in 1983 in West Texas. He was playing with Quiet Riot on the Mental Health tour. I worked for production companies during the early 80s when I was 17 till I was 22.
    I was told to take Rudy wherever he wanted to go He told me he wanted some custom cowboy boots. I took him to a man that handmade boots.
    We then went to the record store and then to my house where he met my parents. We rode horses in the afternoon and then I took him back. He gave me a bunch of backstage passes. I took a bunch of my friends to the show. It was kick ass!
    Rudy Sarzo is a super talented bassist & truly great guy!
    Thank you Rudy for a day, I will always remember!

    I’m continually blown away by Rudy! He does every interview and tells the same stories answering the same questions, especially about Randy and he never sighs or seems aggravated or resistant. He tells the stories like it’s the first time he’s telling it. And although he’s has this amazing career and played with some of the biggest bands, he knows he’s the conduit these interviewers are basically using him to get to Randy’s story and he’s completely gracious and at peace with it. What a cool and balanced human being Rudy is. Respect!

    The quintessential embodiment of class. And a fabulously talented musician. (The part about not being a drug addict or an alcoholic is why he got the gig is the part that resonates with me the most. I landed a position on the crew with the Scorpions in the 90's because I didn't do drugs and was considered reliable. His own experience really resonated with me.)

      I spent a lot of time out on the road as a Systems Engineer (A2) and it was filled with drunk bitter divorced men. The riggers, especially, seemed to enjoy meth, coke, crack - whatever uppers they could get their hands on. It is a hard life that looks an awful lot like Groundhog's Day with each show, venue and town and blending into one hazy noisy blur. It was easier being in the military.

    • @fredacuneo5180
      @fredacuneo5180 4 роки тому +7

      @@fullclipaudio: It was definitely not glamorous for me either. Groundhog would be a good comparison. I drank a bit too much the first few days on the tour, to the point that I was going to quit that morning. But Rudy Schenker's guitar tech mentored me on what to do and how to survive, and it really helped a lot. Regular sleep, eating decent food from the catering table where the bands and management ate from, and two drinks a night after sobering up for a few days made ALL the difference. Big growing experience. Rudy, Mats and Klaus are all awesome people. Looking back, I wouldn't trade the whole circus of it all for anything. Cheers mate!

      @fredacuneo5180 4 роки тому +32

      A lot dealt with publishing rights. Jake stated he composed the first album after joining and Sharon informed him they were assuming the master tapes for Bark at the Moon. Jake had no legal protections and had to accept them taking the tapes or be fired on the spot. The next album Jake protected his publishing rights on The Ultimate Sin (1986) LP and.it went downhill after that. I think the same may have happened with George and he wanted out after reading the fine print of the contract........and even helping find his replacement (Lee).

He was appreciative and quiet, and I always hope I didn't upset him by speaking of Randy. It was something that was still breaking my heart at the time and I wanted so much to express it. Would have been nice if instead of referring to them as "the rhythm section" he had called out Bob Daisley and Lee Kerselake by name. Most underappreciated guys in the history of music. Bob and Lee literally revived Ozzy's career. He was a has-been until Sharon found them and hooked Ozzy up with them - and Randy of course - but Bob and Lee wrote Blizzard with Ozzy.

    • @paulmurphy8012
      @paulmurphy8012 6 років тому +12

      Too true :( Bob Daisley essentially replaced Geezer Butler's position in Sabbath where he wrote all the lyrics (only occasionally using a reference line from Ozzy's scat-vocal jams as a jumping point of reference) & was largely responsible for song arrangements etc. on all the Ozzy Osbourne records that matter, with the one exception being 'The Ultimate Sin' which was largely Jake E. Lee but the bassist at the time Phil Soussan brought Ozzy his biggest hit to date with 'Shot In The Dark' (the song which the Osbournes have since pretended doesn't exist for decades as they owe Soussan a substantial amount for royalties). Daisley was screwed over royal, he wrote the bulk of & played on 'Bark At The Moon's with Lee & both were forced by their contracts to sell their rights to Ozzy as songwriters, & 'No Rest For The Wicked' with Wylde, but contributed more to the lyrics & arrangements (90% is about right). That time he was switched out for Geezer himself for the videos & tour. Rudy is a great performer but he was given the gig in Ozzy for the exact same reason that he was later given the gig in Whitesnake - Because he looked good onstage. Osbourne was as vain as David Coverdale in that aspect, & they were pandering to the MTV cock rock market of the day, that is why Bob Daisley & Neil Murray were replaced by Rudy Sarzo because they were seen by their employers as too old looking.

      Michael - Right, I read some of that book years ago at a book store, and the part where Ozzy decks Randy Rhoads for considering leaving the band was fuckin' crazy. Been wanting to read the whole thing for a while now (I read tons of rock bios), so I finally ordered it. Thanks for reminding me of the books' title.

    • @juliegogola4647

      I have that book, I've read it, I can't find it right now to see and reference it, I have so many damn books, but, I do remember a reference to Pete Willis, the original Guitarist in Def Leppard, he was in the band before Phil Collen joined, he wrote many songs or co- wrote them on the albumn "Pyromania", he had a problem with alcoholism, just like they all did, but, Pete wasn't able to put up with the rigors of their new producers "perfectionism". It did have the band end up with a very "produced" album. Pyromania, was really a "perfect" album. It was really a very smooth sound for Def Leppard compared to their first 2 albums. THis Ozzy book referred to Pete being really drunk, and going out in the town, I hope someone would've tried to get him to come back to where the band was, they made fun of him, I like Pete Willis, I say Fuck em, Pete made Def Leppard a harder rocking band, once he was gone, they wussed out.

    I met Rudy, with Randy and Ozzy, Sharon and Tommy A. I was a bellman working in Phoenix AZ at the then Hilton hotel. I was a employee so they didn't treat me like some crazed rabid fan. Ozzy was out of it, smoking, drinking, drugging out of his mind! Sharon at that time (the 80's) was a little heavy and didn't have all the cosmetic surgery yet. Being hispanic Rudy asked if I spoke Spanish? I told him yes and we continued talking in Spanish to me. He was totally down to earth, happy and grateful guy! I talked to Randy pretty extensively and he was a super cool guy (man he sure had a runny nose)! The only guy that wasn't cool but he still gave me his autograph was Tommy A. I was just a young man and I didn't know better, but I asked him "what happened to Pat Travers?" He got really quiet and said " it's just business man". After reading how Tommy had been through (he's been around) I can understand why the guy is a jerk still love his playing). Peace everyone and yes I remember when I heard the news about Randy! I was so bummed out but when I showed my autograph to my friend, I knew I met someone special. Peace and love.
