Brilliant man. Gary was a force to be reckoned with. I put Uli and Gary at the top. To me Uli, just can't wrap my head around how he thinks. Gary, if I was an adept at the ax, that's how I'd play

Nice comment. After the ages. Uli is basically beyond all in the round about genre. He's Hendrix x10, he's Blackmore x 5, he's ....not Jeff Beck, cause no one is. But appreciate Gary, but like he's not even in the ball park imo. Randy 100x more, but guess just age and preference. It's told he was a Leslie West fan, ..i barely for a few years of my life listened to Mountain. Hit me more than any Gary Moore i ever heard by a lot. Not a diss on Moore, but to me he was just ok. Maybe top 50, but probably not..

I never even knew Gary existed till maybe 5 years ago 😂 but to me, I can't deny his persona. I was quite shocked to see him come off the chain in his heavier shit. And it's my opinion that his bluesy material is top of the bill. I say this because bluesy shit bores me to tears. With Gary I never once thought to myself "oh, that lick huh? never heard that before 😑" I'm a bit of a critical if u know what I mean, I discern sharply between Uli, Jake, Michael, Randy, Jeff, Jimi, Gary, Michael Denner, this caliber of musical thinkers as opposed to the guys that just play visually and revert to the fuckin box. To me flash don't mean shit if it's just muscle memory. Speaking musically is a force to be reckoned with right? Who appreciates a cunt that has nothing good to say to begin with yet insists on endlessly repeating himself? If I want that I'll go visit any one of my alcoholic acquaintances 😭😭😭😂

I think it was 1981 and I went to see Ozzy in Seattle. I’m pretty sure it was the Paramount Theatre which holds, oh, 5K people. Anyways Randy was on guitar of course and it was the Blizzard tour. But everyone was standing on the armrests and going crazy whenever Randy went into his solos. There were a lot of guitar wannabes there - my friend played bass and I was learning classical guitar at the time - so the crowd was pretty knowledgeable. But I would say that was the craziest concert I ever saw, in a good way. (They actually played a few songs off of “Diary” which hadn’t yet released which was really cool.)

Gary made the right decision not teaming up with Ozzy. It would've been interesting but no doubt those two would've butted heads. Possibly even violently. I saw Gary Moore twice in 87 and I'll always cherish seeing him at the peak of his powers. Of course, the other tragedy was the untimely death of Stevie Ray Vaughn who Gary was rumored to be planning a tour with before the helicopter crash. We can only imagine those two on the same stage trading blues licks, maybe even with Albert King looking on with pride at his proteges.

I think Gary would have witten Gary Moore songs and have Ozzy sing on them whereas Randy understood what worked with Ozzy and what kind of music best suited Ozzy and his voice. Randy talked about how he started writing in a guitar lesson on youtube he said he had to start writing riffs with the melody in mind.

    • @redghettosun
      @redghettosun 5 місяців тому

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Good point. Gary was never the best at coming up with catchy riffs. He could write great Bluesy, Celtic type melody lines but he was no Tony Iommi. Maybe, he didn't want to be. His main strength was lead guitar and eventually, singing. Randy was more attuned to what going on in modern rock. Bob Daisley mentioned that the best guitar he heard from Gary was him just jamming and messing around. Just off the cuff stuff. I suspect he probably overthought the writing process sometimes.

Combining what Bob Daisley and Dana Strum have said it looks like Dana managed to get the very wasted Ozzy for a very quick late night audition with Randy and was impressed but no final decisions about Randy were made before Bob, being dissatisfied with their rehearsal guitarists and hearing from Ozzy about Randy, they with some difficulty persuaded David Arden to have Randy flown over to England for some jamming. Very quickly at the jamming they "jelled" and were convinced.
Seems like Gary Moore was invited to one of these early jam sessions.

Yeah ok again I thought you were going to straighten that out but you actually contradicted your stories a little you first said one way it went down and even gave Tommy Aldridge account at first meeting Randy while at rehearsals with Gary but then change it again back to Randy first meeting Randy in England .not that it's that big of a deal so I apologize if I'm coming off like picky over your words so for that I apologize but just wanted to get the story straight that Randy met Gary and Tommy and even Ozzy basically for for the first time in LA the day after he auditioned for Ozzy which Randy never actually met or even saw Ozzy that night he auditioned where Randy was sitting on a stool in the middle of the studio and Ozzy was back behind the window in the control room .Dana even turned the light down really dim so Ozzy couldn't actually see Randy he just wanted him to hear him and hear him he did .even though Randy auditioned with his Les Paul and his tiny little practice Amp Dana said it was loud as hell when Randy started doing the finger exercise and did a few harmonic squeals and divebombs by the time he ever started his solo from the Starwood which is what Dana told him to play Ozzy had already told Dana to take him home and they left Randy sitting on the stool playing as Dana drove ozzy home and came back and then he told Randy Ozzy said you got the gig and for him to meet Ozzy at the rehearsal hall the next day .I feel bad for Dana cause he was promised the bass gig and producer in Ozzys band .yeah I said that right producer. I guess Dana was doing some producing at Sunset Sound at the time he was driving Ozzy around looking for the guitar players Ozzy had written down on a list .kinda shocked Randy didn't recommend Dana after Bob and Lee got kicked out of the band .Ozzy had heard Dana play and was impressed with him and Dana was the one to get Randy in that band to begin with so yeah not sure why Ozzy or Randy went with Dana over Rudy .I think at that time Dana was probably the better bassist and all around musician and definitely knew his way around a recording studio but guess where Rudy was in Quiet Riot he picked him

This is wrong !!! How can you have such a big music challenge and get this all wrong or at least the MAIN thing you have on your headline for the video .Garry met Randy in Las Angeles the day after Dana Strum brought Ozzy to the Sunset Sound recording studio at 3 am when Randy auditioned for Ozzy with the 15 sec warm up technique that was all it took for Ozzy to tell Dana tell that kid he's got the gig now take me home .the next day Randy was told to meet Ozzy at a rehearsal hall that Gary had rented out and was using to get G-Force started up and exactly like you said Gary was letting Ozzy bring people in to audition and so Randy showed up early before Ozzy got there and walked in as Gary and the band including Tommy Aldridge on drums were rehearsing and Randy sat down and just watched until Ozz showed up and then Ozzy introduced Randy to everyone there which Randy knew it was Gary Moore being a fan of his but yeah Randy plugs in and jammed for hours with Gary and Ozzy and Tommy and whoever on bass .Tommy has spoken about this numerous times as it was the first time Tommy ever laid eyes on Randy .So you got the right specifics except Randy met Gary in Las Angeles not England .I'll go watch the rest of your video I just had to stop and let everyone kno hey wait a minute this is wrong right off the bat .

You see nothing is more ironic than criticizing other bands for being inspired by Led Zeppelin who are arguably the king of copying others music. Led Zep was a clone itself. C'mon man. You really think that? I'm s lifelong Randy fan and it was Randy Rhoads stating that Gary Moore along with Leslie West and Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe) were his heroes that got me soo much into Gary's music. It's not a competition but although Randy was very melodic with huge standard classical guitar influences, Gary Moore started by playing fast hard and heavy power trio music in the early 70s with his band, Skid Row followed by Thin Lizzy then he played jazz rock fusion and a little classical with "Peter the Wolf" soundtrack and full on 80's Heavy Metal before becoming a blues purist. Randy Rhoads still is one of my all time favorites but Gary Moore simply had more chops than most of his contemporaries including Edward Van Halen...his tone and rhythm was nearly as good as EVH though.

@@osiruskat there are really good players and then there is Randy Rhoads.....Gary could not write like Randy nor did he have that intricate knowledge of the instrument. gary never wrote an album like Diary of a Madman.
Think of what Randy Rhoads did, he did not even like metal, but he was so knowledgeable he wrote stuff perfectly tailored for Ozzy's voice and image. But he embraced it.
Under no condition did Gary have better chops that Randy, are you kidding Gary would be the first one to tell you he could not play like Randy. Randy could play any genre of music, he grew up playing the blues but found it too simple....he then played jazz and classical. Gary was not well educated on the guitar as Randy was. Randy was one of the all time great rhythm players. He was so melodic he too had a drummer for a brother. Listen to his rhythm tracks on Believer they are next level, even George Lynch said he could take a deep dive on Randy's stuf with Ozzy and learn stuff.

@@osiruskat NO no way did Moore have moore chops than Randy and Ed.... LOL . Gary's fast was a different type of speed, not as articulate. He was a much better blues guy than rock. Why he gravitated towards that as he got older. When I saw Gary live I liked him and his solo album came out in 82. But he was no Randy. Randy was fire.. Gary Moore NEVER wrote a composition like Revelation Mother Earth or Diary of a Madman...Randy liked many but Earl Klugh was a favorite other than the Mick Ronson slides, bends and stage look. I saw in 81 Ed VH front and Row, Gary Moore in 82 in front and Randy Diary Tour 82 close to the stage. it's just personal taste what I saw and heard and studied in music college is different than yours. Randy had more potential too.

@@jimbo0411 oh, growing up Randy Rhoads was and still is my number one rock/metal guitarist. I got into Gary Moore from what Randy Rhoads mentioned as his biggest guitar influences like Leslie West, Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe) and Gary Moore. Gary Moore played in more than one genre from rock/metal with Thin Lizzy to jazz hard rock fusion with Coloseum II to classical rock with Andrew Lloyd Webber "Variations" also he played lead on Greg Lake's first two proper solo albums. Of course, us kids were heartbroken throughout middle school when Randy died in 1982 and he had soo much more potential especially if he left Ozzy. As much as I love Mick Ronson's playing Gary's guitar work is nowhere similar if anything more like Rory Gallagher with the harmonic pinches. I didn't particular like his change from hard rock to blues but it just again shows his level of chops. Again it's just my opinion. Also check out Thin Lizzy's "Roisin Dubh"

gary didnt have nice things to say about ed in ‘84, which is really weird because there are quite a few photos of them together. Scott gorham tells a story about seeing VH with gary in the late 70s and pretty much said gary was pretty competitive and had this jealousy thing when it came to other guitarists

No way, Ed was all flash and ego. Randy’s knowledge of the arpeggios was already beyond Ed. Randy was all originals, VH covered other artists. Why can this be love? Joke. Jump? Sellouts.

Look man, I was there back in '78 when VH opened for Black Sabbath at the concert in Cleveland & agree with you to a point. When the house lights came down & VH hit the stage, not only Eddie but all 4 members in VH blew our hair back & singed our eyebrows. Half way through the first tune VH had the audience complete dumbfounded looking at each other stuck on Stoopid. Then after 3 or 4 songs into their set the feeling in the crowd turned, knowing they were a force to be reckoned with & a new sheriff in town named "Van Halen." However, let's keep it a buck & not get all crazy here, cool? Cuz saying the reason behind the break up of Black Sabbath was due to Eddie & VH opening up for Sabbath is absolute horsesh!t. C'mon Man! Don't be condescending by twisting words & babbling a bunch of BS making it seem like the cause Ozzy left Sabbath was bcuz Ozzy being blown away by Eddie's guitar playing. Even though it's true Ozzy was impressed with Eddie's guitar playing for sure, it still had nothing to do with the Sabbath/Ozzy split whatsoever. For one, Ozzy was "fired" by the other 3 members in Sabbath, he didn't leave on his own, dude. There wasn't an option for Ozzy in this matter as far as the rest of the band members in Sabbath were concerned. So please stop twisting your words of the truth to self satisfy your own selfish wants & needs cuz you're an Eddie Van Halen fan freak. Seriously, it's silly, shallow & senseless doing that kinda stoopid sh!t. Not to mention the lack of self-respect & integrity it shows in you having any sort of credibility in the future. So don't be that guy, be better, ya dig? You do you & take it anyway you want it. Just saying... ++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend++ 🤘😜🤘

but he didn't say Van Halen opening for Sabbath caused the band to break up. He just said "after that (tour)", as in "later on" not "because of"

Black Sabbath did have problems with drugs, alcohol and discipline but also touring with Van Halen and seeing how amazing Van Halen were and how much people loved them was a big reason why Ozzy and Black Sabbath parted ways. Obviously they blamed Ozzy for their failure and fired him. Ozzy also wanted to leave the band and do a solo project. Why I say that Van Halen caused them to break up was that the label Warner Bros began investing more in Van Halen and started ignoring Sabbath. Ozzy once recalled one night during the road trip where a conversation took place with a record-company executive. This is what Ozzy said: “We’d had a few drinks, and one of us said to this guy, 'Be honest, you’re only using us on this tour to promote Van Halen, aren’t you?' And he said, 'You’re right.' And if you’re with a record company that won’t back you … ." This is what Geezer Butler recalled in an interview: "The record company was out promoting Van Halen, and we were on the same record company. But all the backing was going into Van Halen, they were forgetting about us. I think it was just a good show all around." That must have been a big shock to Black Sabbath. This is why they parted ways.
