If you stick with the 1.8l and CVTi-s it is essentially the same Corolla as always, but the XSE with the CVT having a physical first gear, and a new 2.0l engine with both direct and port injection. I'm worried about the longevity considering how complex those two systems are, and he probably would be too and say stick with the base 1.8l and the proven CVTi-s.
2020! I just purchased a 2020 LE in November. I'm still learning, but I love it! I was anxious about being a female senior citizen driving a Corolla, but I've noticed other mature ladies in this town sporting around in theirs, also! They're the spiffy-looking senior ladies with the big smiles!
Just had the 2020 Corolla SE as a rental and drove 400 miles across West Virginia and absolutely loved it! I own a 2017 Corolla LE as my daily driver and it's alright. But first thing I thought about the 2020 is that it's a little Lexus! The power, suspension, technology, interior/exterior design, sporty seats and driver aids were amazing, it literally drove itself under light supervision by me, through the mountainous, curvy roads of West Virginia! I'm going to configure one and see what I'm looking at and start considering a trade.
@@independent2368 I'm still in my sweet Carol (17 Corolla LE), but I have a 21 Honda Civic that is a solid contender. I'd recommend a test drive in both to see which suits you better.
Is it just me, or the 2019 is better looking from the FRONT? 🧐 By the way, I just uploaded a review of my 🔥2019 Corolla that performed 51 MPGs Highway🔥. NON HYBRID, I repeat NON HYBRID, regular 1.8 liter engine.
the interior also looks better in the 2019. you have circle vents and no dial for adjusting the ac. the interior in the 2019 looks like an european car. I guess we would have to wait another 3 years for a better redisign.
I own a 2018 Corolle SE and the front actually look unique and upscale. The standard full LED headlights and Day Time Running strips are nice features. Interior also feels premium and is rommy for its size. Ive been told it kinda looks like a mini Lexus. I like the 2020 Corolla too. Its a nice car that will sell thousands around the world like past generations.
OMG!!!!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 2020 for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you guys so lucky to get new models so early!?!?!? Our local dealership doesn’t even have many 2019 RAV4 yet lol!!! Nice Video!!!!!!!!
No CD Player ruins the new models for me. Yeah people hate on me for still using CDs but I don't care! You can repeat a song on a CD much easier than on Digital. When I get a Corolla I am going to get the 2019. The styling also speaks to me more as well.
I personally think the 2017-2019 Corolla’s look better on the exterior but the 2020 Corolla killed it with the interior changes I’m getting a 2019 Corolla this week!
I'm going to miss my 03 when I finally decide to get a new Corolla, I love the simplicity of manual windows and steering wheels that aren't covered in buttons, haha. Not to mention how cheap and easy it is to fix myself. The engine on the 2020 sounds great and the mpg matches what my 9th gen got from factory just about. The earlier 11th gens look so much better to me though. It's gonna be a tough decision when I get there. Either way, I'm sure I'll love it to pieces.
@@pwdt4r313 I test drove a 2014 a few months back and I didn't hear anything like that luckily; I think it had around 60k on it. I'm planning on probably getting a 2015 S; but that's about 18 months - 2 years out; by then the 12th gens will be out long enough I think I'll be comfortable adding them to the equation, but they'll probably be out of my wanted price point. We'll see what happens; my 03 is at 261k and going strong so I should have the luxury of time to be choosy as I near the end of my truck payment. Any suspension would probably be better than what I have going on in my car at the moment... struts aren't looking so hot haha.

Why don't you keep your '03, if you have the space? Insurance would be nearly nothing on a car that old, so it shouldn't cost you much to hang onto it. I plan on buying a Corolla with a standard transmission next year, because I want a bigger car, and I want to learn how to drive a manual. Current car is an '09 Yaris, which I've owned since new. I love it because it's got crank windows and no keyless entry. I know I'd miss my Yaris, which is why I'm going to keep it!
Cayleigh Myers I have an 06 corolla and just bought a 2017 corolla. You will love the ride and comfort and power. You may not like the cvt transmission at first, but it will grow on you with its smoothness.
I prefer the tried and true 1.8 basic engine of the pre 2019 models. Workhorse. Avoid the ECO, problems common. Best is a 2016 before the pre collision system. It is basically a mess if you have any kind of a front end bump, very spendy to repair.
The 2019 front looks better. People are only saying the 2020's front looks better because it's newer. As for the back, as decent/good as the 2019 is (it looks standard, to be honest), I'd prefer the 2020's back. I'm in the market for a first car, and my brother's been instructing me along the way. I'm just debating whether to go with 2017 Corolla, 2018 Corolla or 2019 Corolla or maybe one of the Prius'. I'm not sure yet.
if you're a car person you definitely don't get the prius... I say as a first car, the less elctonic it has the BETTER it is... 'cause you'll find it hard to drive but quickly adapt... then years later when you jump on a brand new one; they'll be easy as hell to drive :P
Just bought a 2019, got a nice deal on it as the 20's were coming in and they wanted to liquid stock (at least that is what I tell myself). Anyway, thanks for making these videos, they are very informative and helpful. Cheers,
I purchased the vehicle at Bernardi Toyota in Framingham in May 2019. All in (tax, delivery etc etc) I paid $20,000. Its a Falcon Gray Corolla SE with standard SE features I didn't upgrade anything. As I recall the sticker price, before tax was right around 22.5K, like I said I think I got a good deal, maybe not a great deal by some standards but I was happy enough.
I think they are both really really good designs. I personally have a 17 SE so I am really partial to mine! I like my car a lot! I think the 19 SE fronts looks better. Although the 2020 is still knocking it out of the park! I also do like that mine has the softex seats too.
Great video, Jeff. Thanks, I've wanted to see this one. Definitely the 2020 Corolla SE! It looks better, front, side and back plus it really doesn't cost that much more than the 2019 when you consider the bigger engine and better gas mileage. And better transmission. Last November I was comparing the 2019 Corolla SE and 2019 Camry SE - it was no contest, I bought the Camry. I'd still get the Camry over the 2020 Corolla but it's a more difficult choice. Whew, no buyer's remorse. Yet!
It is tough to directly compare cars from different categories. In the case of the 4 cylinder Camry you get more space, more power and better highway mpg so the Corolla's only real advantage is the manual option.
Better power 178 vs 140 HP, better torque, better MPG, better interior and exterior, better suspension and frame. It is worth 10k more with TNGA architecture. This new generation is as fun as VW Golf in handling but with Toyota reliability history. No Turbo problems, no intake valve problems (port+direct injection) like in Honda, VW, Hyundai, etc. However, every first generation usually have some bugs that need to be fixed, waiting for 2-3 more years may be a good idea and stay with 2015 or older model and safe money. Just like 2010-2012 Prius with head gasket and bad piston rings at around 140k miles was fixed in 2013 model, Nissan altima 2002-2003 catastrophic catalytic converter was fixed in 2004, Prius 2004-2005 peeling interior paint was fixed in 2006 model, etc.
I don't know why Toyota doesn't make blind spot monitoring standard like the other safety features. The only was missing this feature, while the Honda Civic has it.
Jeff.... I just went and test drove a 2020 Corolla LE ECO. I own a 2017 Toyota LE ECO. so it was a straight across the board Apple's to Apples comparison. I love seeing the exterior styling of the new Corolla, however when you get on the inside and you sit down you feel like you're sitting on a rock. My 2017 is plush, where it feels like you're actually really sitting on a seat lol. When I got out of the seat I heard plastic, like a snapping sound. Seats in the 2020 are cheap! With that being said I got into the rear seat and it felt the same way, like I was sitting on a rock. Legroom was good because Toyota made the seats with a longer travel time to where the driver, and the rear passenger had plenty of room. When I got out of the rear seat to exit the cabin, because there is little Headroom, I hit my head on the frame. I got back into the front seat and turned on the stereo, turned on the A/C, the stereo, and put it in drive to head down the road. The ride in the new Corolla is far superior than the 2017. The way it takes bumps in the road is smooth. The engine is very very peppy and it is superior to the 2017. however the stereo completely sucks compared to the 2017. There is no sound separation and it sounds like every other car I have had. I wanted to have the color blizzard white pearl again, with the Macadamian (a light tan) interior. All they had was grey or black interior. the dealer stated that the macadamian color was super hard to get. The USB connection for an iPod or anything else that you want to hook up to it was located in a very awkward and inconvenient area.... inside the middle console. You had to open it to get to it, and compared to the 2017, where its located is by the gear shift in the front panel on the dash. I like the unique styling in the 2017 as far as the dashboard is concerned as well. in the 2020 it just looks like a Camry or a RAV4. Nothing unique. All in all I did not like the car, and I left the dealership keeping my 2017 Toyota Corolla LE eco. Toyota in my estimation has dropped the ball considerably on this model!!!!
I absolutely hate the front of the new one, the grill just looks odd like really off. The 2019 looks better from the front, the 2020 rear is a vast improvement but kinda reminds me of the previous gen Camry. The interior of the 2020 is amazing tho.
I liked and subscribed because you are so entertaining..you really helped me thank you ....just wish I was good at getting a good price ...they always take advantage of me
Kelly Bluebook Thank you so much Kelly that is really nice of you to say. I don’t suppose you live anywhere close to Raleigh do you? I can make sure you got the absolute lowest price possible just because you said what you said.
I test drove a Civic and Corolla (new hatchback) which has same platform, engine and interior as the new 2020 sedan and was able to tell diff right away...Corolla just had the better interior, improved ride and handling and was actually quiet. Unfortunately I wasn’t impressed with the Civic...yes ride and handling was good but interior mat’ls looked cheaper than the Corolla. Btw I also test drove the new Mazda 3 and that thing was really good! Better 2.5L engine, 6-spd auto, quiet and plush interior, great handling and just looked amazing with the new but slight redesign! For my money it’ll come down to either the new Corolla or Mazda 3...
2019 wins on interior looks, roomier backseat and better front end. 2020 wins on bigger better engine and performance along with better suspension and handling. Wife currently has the 2017 SE corolla and other than the engine with its 37 xtra ponies not much worth upgrading for.
The engines sound similar. Other than that everything is new. I’ll say that it will get some getting used to with the 2020. I kinda like the exterior of the 2019 better but interior goes to 2020! Also if Toyota is big on safety they should include BSM and RCTA as standard equipment.
That's because the 1.8L I4 and 7-step CVT combo is essentially carried over on the L, LE, and XLE. The new 2.0L I4 from the Hatchback is found on the SE and XSE however, with that new CVT and 6-speed manual option. And I personally do prefer the 2020's look better, not for the sake of new being always better.
Jeff, you sir are a stone cold trip..so comedic anyway this car is so beautiful, great job toyota! cant wait to test drive one of these. Do you know when they will be coming in Jeff? thanks
Awesome job on the walk around and the add libbing. I'm a fellow Toyota sales professional that is absolutely estatic about the all new 2020 Corolla. Im seriously considering purchasing one
This car looks more "JDM" for some reason than the old one. The front upper slim grill reminds me of a Nissan silvia s14 and 15 mix. The back looks like an old schooled toyota as well, which is not bad, but good. I personally like that. The side profile however is better on the old one imo and the bottom big part of the front kills this car, they should reduce the size of it. Other than those two issues, the car is flawless inside ! It's a good car.
I'll take the one with the the radio integrated into the dash, and not looking like an I pad taped to the dash - seriously if I had one of those I'd have a cloth black cover made for it so I didn't have to see it driving , i'm also pretty against Electric E brakes when I leave from work and get on the junction before the freeway and find my brakes are out I want to confidently know i can pull the E brake to and come to a stop.
Depends on if they have eliminated the possibility of the CVT going south. Here in Japan the standard models get better gas mileage bc the engine is 1.5L.
I like the 2019 one more. There are a few awkward features in the 2020 that I hope they sort out! For instance, why is the digital display on the dash on the far right? That should be in the middle! The heating knobs and wheel buttons remind me a lot of my 2016 Camry and I hated that set up. I actually just leased the 2019 Corolla and I feel that it’s a vast improvement from my Camry. I’m also not the biggest fan of the raised up touch screen. It’s sort of cumbersome. I give the 2020 Corolla a B-....there’s a lot that can be improved aesthetically
Just bought the 2019 corolla hatchback se with $108 option (cargo net and connectivity kit) for the drive out price of $20,750. Wish floor mat was the added option. Anyway, MSRP was $22,173. Basically, I'm getting tax, title, and other fees paid for, which was around $1,600, and $1450 off MSRP. Will be picking it up in a day or two bc the dealership didn't have it in bronze color. I think that is a pretty decent deal. BTW, the salesman said that all cars are getting an increased of at least $1500 due to Trump's tariff. Thanks Mr. President for helping out the American people in saving money.
2020👍 Really enjoyed your video Jeff. I thought John Walcks comment 5 mths ago was funny...."The iPad mini glued to the dash sucks". New subscriber from New Zealand 🙂
Hmm I like the 2014-2016 Corolla more until they did a refresh with the 2017-2019 front grill became more ugly. Now 2020 Corolla redesign kinda looks the same to me from the side view. Not digging the rear and front design that much. Also, if you asked me I rather buy the new Subaru Impreza or Mazda 3 in this class segment.
2019 for sure. The interior isn’t as nice but it also doesn’t have a gigantic tumor of a screen blocking your view. (Distracting much?!) The 2020 just isn’t worth that much more money. And I don’t like that the tail lights are smaller. You want people to SEE your tail lights
@@holadonkey Well, the non-sport Corollas from 2019 looked fine, but the sport ones are the hideous ones to me. It looks like it has the face of an autistic catfish. Also, I have taste, it's just different from your's.

2020 Corolla’s butt is better looking. The front of the 2019 is prettier than the 2020
idc but he is a good guy on camera and probably off camera, he had such a happy attitude and he could just make people smile. such a nice dude
I LOVEEEE Watching Your Vids Keep 'Em Coming
I don't know why Toyota doesn't make blind spot monitoring standard like the other safety features. The only was missing this feature, while the Honda Civic has it.
Davin Peterson they have the safety sense which other brands don’t have.
@@gimne Honda has a safety sense package as well. However, not all features are standard on all trims like Toyota is
This mans on that hardcore stuff lol but the 19' is the winner for me my family owns one se in galactic aqua and we love it
hahaha hi Beverley and thanks for watching!!! Jeff
If the front side of the 2019 and the back side of the 2020 combined. That would be a really nice looking Corolla.
smago88 SO TRUE!!!
I absolutely hate the front of the new one, the grill just looks odd like really off. The 2019 looks better from the front, the 2020 rear is a vast improvement but kinda reminds me of the previous gen Camry. The interior of the 2020 is amazing tho.
Wow the 2017- 2019 Corollas look WAY better than this 2020!!! Uh oh... 👀😳👀😳
Toyota killing Honda in these days
Honda is killing itself.
Both is very good cars
I have a 2018 Honda Civic EX-L and it’s amazing!
James Tiernan it gets stuck in canadian winters I have no time to shovel around it just to get out of my parking space
2019 wins on interior looks, roomier backseat and better front end.
2020 wins on bigger better engine and performance along with better suspension and handling.
Wife currently has the 2017 SE corolla and other than the engine with its 37 xtra ponies not much worth upgrading for.
Lol you’re funny and informative at the same time..thanks for the entertaining demonstration of the corollas!
Side the 2020, front 2019, back 2020. If they had the front of the 2019 on the 2020 perfect car.
I love this guys enthusiasm. You deserve this like dude
Love the energy so I subscribed. Jeff you need to review other non Toyota cars!
2020 Corolla XSE sedan for the complete win! How soon for the 2020 Camry TRD and the Avalon TRD sedans? Mark in Iowa.
I like the 2019 car
Here's my comment hoping for the shark tank thing. Haha. Entertaining and informative as always. Keep up the good work.
Your videos are always fun, dad jokes and all.
The 2020 has the magic feel , from the side view down to the back; then the interior😊 It's a complete makeover from the previous year😊
Thanks for the upload mate 👍👍👍
12:09. I really like that the designers incorporated the infotainment screen into the dashboard.
You are really Saul Godman bro!! Great and enthusiastic comparison.
2019 front looks betterrrr
Jeff is the type of guy that gets excited seeing trunk spoiler on economy car with hubcaps.
I’m fired up!!
It's a good car.
which car are u saying looks more jdm 19 or 20????
I really don't like the front grill on either model, but the 2020 is a bit easier on the eyes. I'd go with the 2020.
I like the 2019 front end but the rear, sides, rims, interior all go to the 2020
I'll take the one with the the radio integrated into the dash, and not looking like an I pad taped to the dash - seriously if I had one of those I'd have a cloth black cover made for it so I didn't have to see it driving , i'm also pretty against Electric E brakes when I leave from work and get on the junction before the freeway and find my brakes are out I want to confidently know i can pull the E brake to and come to a stop.
nice review
I love the good job done, the passion just got me
Depends on if they have eliminated the possibility of the CVT going south.
I agree on the looks of the 2019 Corolla over 2020, but the upgraded engine and suspension is good enough reason to go with the 2020 over 2019
Just bought the 2019 corolla hatchback se with $108 option (cargo net and connectivity kit) for the drive out price of $20,750.
New subscriber from New Zealand 🙂
the black line connecting the tailights isn't necessary, but it has a lexus vibe.
The front of the 2020 looks like darth vader helmet and the back resembles a storm trooper.
You reminds me of Saul goodman ! 😃
Great going jeff love your reviews
I like the looks if the 2019 better, however, I like the 2020s better safety sense, option for Android Carplay, and 2.0 engine. Nice.
Great video Jeff!
The 2013 Corolla is my favorite.
Is not your favourite. More like you’re unable to squeeze more money for the upgrade version nor still leasing the car. 🤭
this was so informative and ammusing, thanks!
I miss my 16 corolla. Toyota convinced me to upgrade to a 19. Other than the safety features and interior style, i think the 16 has more to offer
Love toyota. From start models to 2020.its amaizing
2019 If you like Proven reliability (6 speed manual). The 1.8 (and the Yaris 1NZ-FE) is bulletproof
2019 looks aggressive...
10/10...
James Morgan I’m really into new cars so I’d take 2020 in a heartbeat.
2019 for sure. The interior isn’t as nice but it also doesn’t have a gigantic tumor of a screen blocking your view. (Distracting much?!) The 2020 just isn’t worth that much more money. And I don’t like that the tail lights are smaller. You want people to SEE your tail lights
you were fun to watch, loved your sound effects
Loaded Corolla XSE and a Camry SE is only about a $500 difference, give or take but if I had to choose, I would go with the 2020 model
If that's so I'd rather the camry
I just bought a 2020 Corolla LE and the ride quality is superb . It feels like I'm driving a Lexus.
How does the road noise compare? Previous gen had too much road noise to be acceptable, especially when compared to some Kia models.
I hope this guy keeps going and never getting a copyright lawsuit for all of his song quotes LOL. Love the puns
Looks like the 2020 went backwards in design. Thankfully I bought the 2019 and love it
Lol, very entertaining, what a character! In the market to buy a Corolla, I'm really liking the 2020, more!
You're, very informative!
tbh the 2019 looks way better
Funny, I think the 2019 model is possibly one of the ugliest Corollas I've ever seen.
@@_chan.burn.21_ no taste . the 2019 has a great front and the right size for a corolla .
@@holadonkey Well, the non-sport Corollas from 2019 looked fine, but the sport ones are the hideous ones to me. It looks like it has the face of an autistic catfish.
Also, I have taste, it's just different from your's.
@@_chan.burn.21_ fair enough .
Awesome video brother! 💯 I'll be shopping with you very soon. I need a fully spec'd SE or XSE.
I have the 2021 SE and I love it 😘☺️
you are the best jeff !!!! I really enjoyed your wonderful comparisons for 2019/2020 corolla review. I got a clear idea which 1 i want to buy and the way you compare and explain the features is fabulous. No sales man can outstand your passion and for this hardwork and awesomeness video you must surely hit more than 1M likes...!! :) I choose 2020 corolla !
Definitely the 2020, my sister is considering buying a Corolla in October as a second car (she currently has a Chevy Equinox as an only car) along with a couple of others
The side profile of the 2020 is freaking handsome
Excellent Job Jeff. I am stuck on 2019
2019 all day! .. that raised screen in the 2020 blows!
