It's nice to see a well done, conservative restoration/refurbishing. True, it's not a broadcast transmitter and was not designed to operate like one. I wouldn't hack up my Johnson and Collins rigs to make them operate like broadcast transmitters for the same reason I would not hack up my broadcast transmitters to make them operate like a communications transmitter. Well done.
If anyone has ever heard a, Johnson 500 on air, then you know what (IMO) the GREATEST sounding AM ham transmitter audio is. ITS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I'm aware of someone who has widebanded a, Viking 500, and I'll never understand why. Plate modulated transmitters of that era were the 1st "HIFI" transmitters. The 500s audio is LOUD, BOOMING, and CRYSTAL CLEAR! IMO there's nothing that sounds better. Great job tracking down, and repairing your 500.
I've been lucky to see a few.. k1tli is local to me and got to tour his shop..amazing work he does..the 500 my friend had was one he did. He passed away not to long and ago and man wish I could have gotten it.

The curse of the 500... I know your pain! My 500 has been down more than up. But its working right now!! Good luck to ya! I cant wait to hear it!
