that looks like the one my friend had before he passed away...he had a valiant 2, all the Rangers etc..he used a 75a4 with his 500...k1tli restores them ..he's 30mins from me. If chuck had his hand in that one it's worth 6200 all day.
I don't have a Valient 1 as I have the 2 and don't need a 1. I have the rest, except the 500. I also have the B+W 5100 and a Globe King 500. I have no Collins except a very clean and late R390a receiver that I use.
If the modulation transformer was replaced, this boosts the cost of restoration through the roof. And if the mod xfmr is original, you'll be shopping for the replacement before you have keyed the mike very many times. Not so different from restoring a car that old. Peter Dahl stickers on the iron reveal a big pile of cash was shoveled into this specimen.
as Keith said, single 4-400 in the 500 and 2 4-400's in the kw. Normally plate modulated transmitters use Tetrodes for the finals and both the plate and screen are modulated by the audio final tubes. Screen mod alone, or plate mod alone won't reach 100%. Here is one of my thoughts on Tube plate mod vs transistor mod. As said for tubes, the plate and screen are modulated together to get 100%. Since you are modulating 2 parts of the same tube, plate mod is clean. With transistors, they have that issue too. Modulating the final or collector of the transistor alone won't reach 100% mod. Transistors don't have an extra grid or input or whatever to modulate, so with transistors they normally modulate the driver transistor around 10% to help boost up the final modulation %. It works, but sending a modulated signal from the driver into a modulated final is not very clean. One of a few reasons that watt for watt, a tube will sound better than a transistor.
Thats not a common price for them. Mine and most I have seen are around $2k but For one that pretty I have seen them for 10k but that's the exception not the rule fortunately . It is my favorite Johnson by far.
Very nice. Excellent AM machine.
You’re conflicted. Happy yet sad.
Beautiful transmitter Doc, thanks!
I'm from the D eastside I wonder what Quasar was running back in the mid 70's he had a very powerful station.
Cmon now … that’s pocket change for the Doc ! Lol
appreciated.
Wonder what those went for new back in the day and adjusted for inflation..
That might fit in your Christmas stocking !!!

You need to get your hands on a Collins kw-1. Now that's a Boat anchor 600 lbs.
Sure, sounds good.
Bought a Viking Challenger like new. Works perfectly. Do you have videos on one?
Sorry, no. I don't have one and am not really interested. I am a plate mod fan and those are screen only modulated.

I have a johnson viking challenger. Will the model 122 vfo work with it?
I wonder what kind of power tube this uses 2 3-500z ?
Single 4-400 final tube

Are you going to talk a miracle while ?

$6,250 😮
If it sits on FleaBay for more than a few weeks, then the seller is asking too much.
I would sell mine for half that.
Cool, but does yours look like that one?
@@tramdr not that shiny but for its age in great shape been gone through by d lab electronics.
