My gear watch has been dead for 6 years and thought the battery is officially dead since it won't charge from the charger. Thanks to this video, it came back on just fiddling it few times with this method. If it doesn't work the first time, try a different USB cable as well. That makes sense on the magic of the computer USB. I was watching a breakdown of the watch on a different video, the commentator made mention that the battery went through the brains of the watch first, then to the charging port. The computer talking to the watch may wake it up to charge. Great Video!
JaysDMC easy to explain if you check the charger it only give 0.7A while the USB normally gives 1A Also some usb 3.0 give 2A and that is to mutch for the S gear
People seem to be confusing wattage with amps. Amps on a power supply is what it can provide. If a device isn't drawing that much current, it doesn't provide it - its not a water supply with a forced feed.

The advice about trying your laptop as the USB power source instead of a wall unit worked on my 2017 Gear Sport -- a watch from two years AFTER this video: Aftermarket, but seemingly good, replacement charger was acting just DEAD. I wasn't sure if it was the new charger or my watch -- uncharged for 6+ weeks. But, within seconds of following the advice to use my laptop's port (instead of brand new USB charger/power supply attached to wall), I can see that it is charging! it totally worked I had assumed my samsung watch was completely dead. Because like everyone else I use my wall charger, but I googled my issue got this video. Disconnected it from the wall, got a q-tip cleaned with alcohol/dry side, connected the USB to my laptop, wiggled it around maybe 20 times and bam I'm not at 40% already in 27 minutes. Think I should note I hadn't use my watch in over 8 months. Thank you thank you!!!

It worked great...after I plugged it into my computer. My watch had been off for over 3 months because i lost the cradle when traveling and wanted to make certain i ordered the correct replacement. Thanks so much for the video...PATIENCE is key. Prior to viewing this helpful video, i plugged cradle into the wall...but no charge. I then panicked, saw this video and plugged the cradle into my laptop usb. The first 20 minutes no reply...nada...nothing! Then i just left it alone and within another 5+ minutes i saw the face light up with a circular red glow that soonafter faded then the battery bar showed up at 0%! I was too lazy to get up and go to my computer to try the USB trick, so I used a plastic fork and pressed the power button while holding the charging cradle in place... And it started charging! It stayed at zero for a long time but eventually charged completely. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
Super help. I used the USB port on the laptop, connected this to the cradle and then opened the charging case and held the power on button with a jewellery screwdriver and bam!, it started to charge. It even popped up on the screen saying re-booting. Note, I moved house 10 months ago and left the watch in it's box until I eventually found it in the drawer this week. I was about to throw it out but thought it best to do a quick search and your tips helped heaps. Thanks man.
I was playing around with different USB cords and different USB sockets (notebook, straight wall connection) .. and neither worked. Your step on pressing the gear's power button while connected to the dock was the greatest solution for my device. I almost sent my watch to support and now no need. OMG! It worked! I struggled for two days switching chargers, cables like a mad dog. Took the multi-meter out and also measured voltages. Used laptop also to charge. What worked was holding power button down while charging via PC or laptop. This was the last part of video and I was about to skip, and thought try this as well. The screen came to life. Not sure if my issue is the same. My Gear charges to 100% then shuts down. I can pair it to my phone and I can even update the software. The issue is that it completely shuts down once removed from the cradle - perhaps after a minute or so - and I can sometimes get it to start but it just doesn't work anymore. Is this the same issue?
Happy I came across your video! I was prepared to trash my Samsung Gear S2. I have been trying for months to charge my watch to no avail. The blasted watch would sit on the docking station while plugged into the wall for days - say 100% and as soon as I took it off - nothing, wouldn't come on! I know this video is a few years old. I just wanted to say what happened to me. so I lost my charger when I was pretty light on cash. the thing sat for a few months. using a tooth pick I was able to press the button as he describes and it fixed everything. thanks man.

Hey man, I really appreciate you posting this video. My galaxy gear had no power at all and was down for several months. No shop or repair store could resolve the issue. After watching your video I plugged it into my p.c. did the reset while the watch was on the charging doc and boom I had power. THANKS A LOT!!
YES!!! it worked. took a couple of times to get it right, but when I used a needle to hold down the button while in it's case, IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! thanks
Thank you for the tip. My GEAR finally started up after wedging a paperclip point between the power button and the charge case, forcing the power button down whilst charging in the case. At the moment it is on 0% power and hopefully this will get charging now - but at least the screen is on!

Computer charging worked like a charm. Changed Roms on my S5 to an aosp rom, which had no gear support, so watch was left in a drawer for 2 months. Went back to tw rom and watch wouldn't charge. Was freaking out for 3 days. But tried the computer method and I'm back in business. Thanks a bunch for posting your findings. Would have taken forever to search through xda.

Awesome!!! It really works, and I plugged my Gear into the usb port on a PS4. I hadn't charged the watch since late November and whenever I tried to charge it with the original wall charger it absolutely would not work. Thanks again for the great information.
Well I'm glad this worked for everyone else. I had my gear 2 neo plugged into my laptop for 2 days and nothing happened. So I took it apart then cleaned the contacts inside the watch with an alcohol wipe. Put it back together and finally it worked. Why they have a design that charges through a circuit board before it gets to the battery is beyond me and I think that is a big part of the problem!
Bought one the day they came out, used it, loved it, and then it finally died and wouldn't charge. I sent it in (Under warranty) and they fixed it and sent it back. A few months later, same issue, so I put it in my drawer and forgot about it (Intending to send it back again) and the warranty expired. So, came across it today, wouldn't charge on the wall charger, found your vid, plugged it into my USB 2.0, and sure enough, it is charging as I type. Thanks for the tip! :)
IT WORKS! and this would have saved my first watch as I used contact cleaner on the watch contacts...very bad idea! destroyed the plastic. Thank you for posting!
I have numerous Samsung/blackberry chargers none were charging. Plugged it into ps4 it worked? One question do I always need to charge it thru that now?

It work for me my ms 700 is been off for more then a year I plugged to the computer keep the on bottom for 30 second or more on plunged back and star working thanks I was wondering around like does this new charger work or the watch don't work any more
i havent used my watch in over a year now and I cleaned the contacts with a qtip and rubbing alcohol and plugged it in the computer. I didnt work for the first 30 mins but its been about an hour now and its charging again! I watched other videos saying the same thing but they didnt say be patient. Thanks. I was beginning to lose hope but then i tried it, and with a little patience, it worked and i jumped for joy. After i plugged it into the computer and the screen lit up(it was on 0%) , i then plugged it into the wall for faster charging.

killerdeath ii - only about an hour or so I think. I actually plugged it into my PlayStation 4 and it worked great.

just had the exact same problem..tried everything nothing worked until I watched this video and plugging it in to usb and pushing power button worked instantly after 4 hours of trying to charge it and get it on... thank you for the video/solution
I know this video is a few years old. I just wanted to say what happened to me. so I lost my charger when I was pretty light on cash. the thing sat for a few months. using a tooth pick I was able to press the button as he describes and it fixed everything. thanks man.

Oh my God, years back I had charging issue with my watch and now this watch was just sting in my drawer for years, today i just looked on it and thought to google for it, this was the first video i found, and you know what? it worked :) for me pressing power button for a while worked, and also it was connected with computer. thanks for sharing such a useful info.

Hey man, I really appreciate you posting this video. My galaxy gear had no power at all and was down for several months. No shop or repair store could resolve the issue. After watching your video I plugged it into my p.c. did the reset while the watch was on the charging doc and boom I had power. THANKS A LOT!!

YES!!! it worked. took a couple of times to get it right, but when I used a needle to hold down the button while in it's case, IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! thanks
Thank you for the tip. My GEAR finally started up after wedging a paperclip point between the power button and the charge case, forcing the power button down whilst charging in the case. At the moment it is on 0% power and hopefully this will get charging now - but at least the screen is on!

Your video helped a while back but now it's doing the same thing.. I tried plugging the USB into many computers, tvs, etc... Any other suggestions? Is there a actual battery 🔋 inside the 1st Generation Gear?

Computer charging worked like a charm. Changed Roms on my S5 to an aosp rom, which had no gear support, so watch was left in a drawer for 2 months. Went back to tw rom and watch wouldn't charge. Was freaking out for 3 days. But tried the computer method and I'm back in business. Thanks a bunch for posting your findings. Would have taken forever to search through xda.

Hi Jay, my gear was dead for over a month until I was told to plug into pc which I did. Problem now is Gear keeps recharging itself. Unsure why or how to fix this. Also, I have been trying to pair with my new Pixel XL. Know of any possible fix? Thanks--Carol

I tried it and this works .. My gears s would not charge I plugged it into a usb and I did the power button while in the cradle and it is now charging.. .awesome thanks for the information and help ...

Hello! I had the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy Gear watch: it was working well, but one day I tried to charged it but it lit up for about a second and that was it. Since that day I couldn't charge it anymore. Then I watch this video and so I followed your tip: I tried to charge through my computer USB port with an appropriate cable and IT WORKS!

Awesome!!! It really works, and I plugged my Gear into the usb port on a PS4. I hadn't charged the watch since late November and whenever I tried to charge it with the original wall charger it absolutely would not work. Thanks again for the great information.

Well I'm glad this worked for everyone else. I had my gear 2 neo plugged into my laptop for 2 days and nothing happened. So I took it apart then cleaned the contacts inside the watch with an alcohol wipe. Put it back together and finally it worked. Why they have a design that charges through a circuit board before it gets to the battery is beyond me and I think that is a big part of the problem!
Bought one the day they came out, used it, loved it, and then it finally died and wouldn't charge. I sent it in (Under warranty) and they fixed it and sent it back. A few months later, same issue, so I put it in my drawer and forgot about it (Intending to send it back again) and the warranty expired. So, came across it today, wouldn't charge on the wall charger, found your vid, plugged it into my USB 2.0, and sure enough, it is charging as I type. Thanks for the tip! :)
IT WORKS! and this would have saved my first watch as I used contact cleaner on the watch contacts...very bad idea! destroyed the plastic.

Does this solution work even if you have corroded charging pins at the back?
I have numerous Samsung/blackberry chargers none were charging. Plugged it into ps4 it worked? One question do I always need to charge it thru that now?

It work for me my ms 700 is been off for more then a year I plugged to the computer keep the on bottom for 30 second or more on plunged back and star working thanks I was wondering around like does this new charger work or the watch don't work any more
i havent used my watch in over a year now and I cleaned the contacts with a qtip and rubbing alcohol and plugged it in the computer. I didnt work for the first 30 mins but its been about an hour now and its charging again! I watched other videos saying the same thing but they didnt say be patient. I heard you say that so I just left it there thank you so much I thought it was a $300 peice of trash

Thanks for the advice sir. My watch has been dead for well over a year now and this little info you posted got me back up and running. So from now on I'm going to recharge my watch through my computer or possibly through my lap top.
tried this, as well as using different cords, usb spots on my laptop. Wall chargers with different box/cable combinations and still no charge.. any advice ?

After i plugged it into the computer and the screen lit up(it was on 0%) , i then plugged it into the wall for faster charging.
