    I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and realized I forgot my wallet at home. The S&S Kettle walked up and paid for my groceries! Thank you S&S! Great review Sal. I want to get an S&S but I too am so out of space in my backyard.

    I have the SnS too, along with the Weber. The SnS leaks at the bottom intake - nobody ever talks about it though. It's a design error. The Weber intake does not leak because the fan blades are perfectly designed to be snug to the bowl and there are only three of them. Thanks for the vid!

      It’s a moving part, it’s not airtight. Neither is the Weber. In my experience this hasn’t caused any issues . The fire is extinguished when I close the vent and more importantly, it maintains low n slow temperatures and have zero issues controlling temps. I love Weber but the ash sweep on that thing has two major flaws…1) it’s flimsy and sooner or later you’ll get a charcoal stuck in there during a sweep and it’ll bend the fins upward. Easy enough fix to remove and bend them back but there’s a 2nd problem… 2) if you don’t maintain this area, it’ll rust on you and fail and you’ll have to replace. I have a video on the ash sweeper on how to replace but I am always reading about that part rusting and failing so badly for people it becomes quite the chore to replace.
      I don’t want to excuse your issue you are having. So apologies if I am coming out that way. I’ve seen your comment on several other reviews so hopefully you’ve reached out them, especially if it’s causing you issues or affecting performance.

      @@SJCOOKS Re the Weber, I've replaced that part on another Weber I had. It was pretty easy. Re the SnS, I agree, it's not really an issue regarding cooking. You can cook with the leak just fine, and when you're done, the coals will go out with the top vents closed. But nonetheless, it's a design flaw. The geometric curve is too sharp on the blades relative to the bowl. The blades lift away from the bowl. Whereas the Weber is perfect. And so, if one wanted to use a Thermoworks Billows via the smoke hole, it wouldn't work - smoke and soot would blow out through the closed intake at the bottom. I know because I've tried it myself! But how many people actually want to routinely use a Billows on a kettle? Not many. Bottom line: The leak is not a deal breaker! I do love my SnS and use both the SnS and the kettle, depending on the cook. Thanks again

    Great review Sal! I’m torn between the SNS kettle or performer, I like them both, the only downside of the performer is moving it around in my yard when it’s taken out of the garage! What are your thoughts about smoking on the SNS kettle vs using your WSM, does the kettle work as good?

    • @SJCOOKS
      @SJCOOKS  Рік тому

      In indirect mode, The wsm and kettle produce similar results since they both burn charcoal and wood chunks. But the wsm paired with a hanger attachment produces some outstanding ribs and is my favorite way to cook them. the wsm is a beast when it comes to capacity though. The wsm holds any brisket comfortably, while in the kettle you can struggle with a large brisket or turkey.
      Some will use the wsm as a direct grilling cooker by removing the water bowl. To achieve similar results on the kettle youll need to invest in a Gabby's grill.
      Long story short: if you are making me choose between my kettles or wsm. I'd have to go with the wsm because space is really important to me.

    SNS Kettle question. Do the ash grates sufficiently seal the kettle to extinguish the fire? I use that on my Weber when I am finished cooking. It looks like the SNS ash blades don't seal. Am I wrong? Thanks!

      I very much prefer the sns over the Weber 22”. However I recently acquired the Weber 26” and it’s my favorite kettle now. So much space. I think if snsgrills ever releases a 26” version it would be so awesome.

    I saw an S&S kettle and did not care for sloppy paint work. It is made in China. It does wobble on 4 legs-3 are actually more stable, that's why machine guns and camera tripods are on 3 and 3 wont wobble if on uneven terrain. You can't beat Weber's warranty or customer service-just outstanding. Weber's dome is much taller for better air circulation and cooking turkeys or roasts. The slow and sear is an overpriced gadget and water is only used with slow cooking. There are plenty of low cost options instead of spending $139 for one. Weber is made in USA and I like supporting our companies that have kept jobs in the USA and not moved production out of our country. Plus Weber's are just so damn cool. They are the real thing!

      I agree… but have you seen what Weber has been putting out lately with the kettles? Thin, light, not the same Weber quality I grew up with. I am keeping my old webers as long as I can cause the new stuff is terrible

    Compare the build quality of this Weber copy to the real thing. Not even close, I'll stick with Weber.

    • @SJCOOKS
      @SJCOOKS  4 місяці тому

      you've done a comparison? I'd love to take a look at your video...
      anyways, I will add "build quality" to my list of things I'd want to talk about. The main thing is on the old webers, lid seemed thicker and heavier than what we are getting on the new webers. Because of this, for new kettle users, I always recommend they buy a used weber kettle in the market place because they seem to be better built than the new webers in the market. I'd love to buy a new weber kettle and do a build quality comparison but I really shouldn't be buying new grills right now lol

      @@SJCOOKS Nope, never owned one but see my neighbor's all the time. He has about four kettles that he uses plus an ANCIENT old blue Weber that is a thousand years old (and still works perfectly, he just keeps it to look at. I offered to buy it a few years back and I thought he would have a coronary). So his, not mine, is the SnS I saw and he just bought it this year. I made my decision re: construction by seeing his vs. mine. I saw his first cook on it actually, he had my wife and I over for hamburgers to break it in. It works fine but the ash sweeper isn't fitted as well as on a Weber. He does have a Napoleon kettle that is nicely made, but way more expensive than the Weber... and it cooks the same way. A lot of his Weber accessories fit the Napoleon and SnS by the way. My Weber Performer is 12 years old now and works like new. Even the piezo gas assist charcoal lighter still works perfectly... never been replaced although I did convert the Performer to a regular 20 pound gas bottle instead of the little camping bottles it was designed to use. I use either the Weber Performer, my PK Grills Original, or my Kamado Joe... one or the other at least once a week year 'round. Living in Florida lets us cook outside all year.

      @@tvideo1189 You have a sweet 3 grill setup! can't blame your neighbor for not wanting to sell...I've been wanting to find an old weber on market place, with the old school colors(blue or red) and haven't been able to find one. Those few I do find, have been restored and they are asking for too much(i kinda want to do it myself). Maybe one day since I see people on facebook groups come up with them all the time.
      the ash sweeper not fitted properly is something else I am going to address and test out b/c I saw this comment come up at least once in this video. and seen it a few times on other people's videos. so thanks for reminding of it.
      I am still a weber kettlehead and even when I thought about selling my 22" weber kettle, my wife told me not to. I might fire it up this weekend for some rotisserie action.
