Yeah you can't go wrong wandering through the Zep catalogue in order. What you will find is their immense versatility. Rock, folk, funk, jazz, reggae, country, blues, celtic, medieval, rockabilly, samba, Indian, eastern. There's no other example of a band who covered this much ground over eight studio records in just over a decade. That's why they were the best. They did it all and did it well.

🤯 That's my entire JHS & HS music I did homework to. 🤔 Starting to realize I spent years tossing on Albums, Motown at my house & Classic Rock at my best friends, doing 😳 decades of just homework 5 days a week. 😏 Could be why I know every word to entire Doors, Stones, Marvin, Stevie, Bowie, Rush, J5 & Queen Albums. 🤗 And with MSG, Meadowlands, Radio City Music Hall & Giant Stadium as my "local Venues", 🤯 I got to see these guys.... Live! 🙄 When mom said yes to me going. 🤷🏿‍♀️ I was in JHS after all. 😁 Got easier to buy tickets once the 9-5 job kicked in as an Adult! 😉🐰

It was no accident their music came together so fast. Page and Jones were both two of the top studio sessions musicians in England, both started working careers in their mid teens and were true savants, They literally played on dozens of hit records for many famous bands, So not only were they top musicians but they also knew nearly everything there was to know about recording music as soon as the band started. Page wanted out of the studio and joined the Yardbirds and when that band broke up he put Led Zeppelin together and the four of them created the best band that ever existed.

One of my favorite songs from their debut album. Thanks for another great reaction.
I'd vote for reacting to their 2nd album next. A lot of people think it's even better than the 1st, and many in the music industry "critics" arena say it is one of the most influential albums "of all time". Also, by going in album order, you'll experience Zeppelin's progression and evolution as a band. Great stuff! :)
After The Yardbirds disbanded in July of 1968, Page began looking to form a new band. He already knew Jones, met Plant and Bonham in August, and they had their first rehearsal as a band on August 19, the day before Plant's 20th birthday. If you can believe it, they actually went on tour September 7, then started recording their debut album immediately upon their return to the UK on the September 25. They recorded it in 36 hours over a 3-week period.
Yeah, they were that good and that in sync. Lucky us! :)

Yes, having listened to this era in music for half a century now, I have a good grasp of what the sound quality was ordinarily like and this album just sounds 'crisper' than most others back then. YES - *Please* do the next album and *ALL* the rest - it shouldn't even really be a question. Some may tell you the later albums aren't worth it, but I assure you, they are. Besides, how will you know their worth if you don't hear it and decide for yourself? Here's a bit of timeline to help you; the band had their first rehearsal on August 12, 1968. The first album was released January 1969 in the US and in March in the UK. It was recorded in about 30-36 hours and was paid for by Jimmy Page and was said to cost 1,782 GBP in 1968 which is approximately 36,526 GBP today, or approximately $44,466 USD today. Jimmy produced the album and the band created a company called Superhype to handle the publishing rights. They were signed to Atlantic in November 1968 and given an advance of $143,000 USD (that would be worth over 1 million today). This was an unprecedented sum for an unknown band. As part of their deal, they kept creative control of everything such as tracks, track listing, album artwork and name (or lack thereof), production, etc. Creative control was another unusual thing Zep had going for them. From his time as a session musician and in his time with The Yardbirds, Jimmy had seen many bands get taken advantage of and did his best to ensure something similar wouldn't happen to his band. Some of the musical influences for the group include rock and roll, rockabilly, Motown, blues, R&B, folk, Celtic, jazz, classical, Indian, and North African music, in addition to others. Their music is guaranteed to provide a unique, dynamic experience.

"How Many More Times" is based on lyrics from blues singer Albert King's song "The Hunter," and much of the song was derived from Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Years." Some other Led Zeppelin reworkings of blues songs include "You Shook Me" and "The Lemon Song." Everyone in the band except Robert Plant got writing credits for this even though Plant was known for re-arranging standard blues songs with his previous band Hobbstweedle.

You guys get it. I can tell by your comments. I grew up with this. Your dad's comment. I get that too. As back then, it was Zeppelin. Or anything else, at parties. Your dad's music was great too. But Zep fans were hooked

Together for weeks. Recording this in literally hours. If I'm correct. Been a fan since this album was released. Second album I owned I think. First was Sly and the Family Stone. These guy changed my taste for life

Great album, great review. You do such a better job than many other channels because you actually can pick apart things and you have a true appreciation for the music. I was 16 when this came out and it was up there with me. Transitioned me from psychedelia to hard rock and paved the way for my taste for punk rock. A break through album at the time.

In 1977 I drove cross country by myself with everything I owned in my car and my Mom's cat. No home, no job, no map and three 8 track tapes. This was one of them. Every time I hear any of these Led Zeppelin songs I'm out on the highway again heading west.

Blessed to have seen them live five times. My obsession in my teens.

Awesome..This is my favorite Zep song of all, it really showcases everything they do. Excellent point about Plant singing blues over a rock beat...never thought of it that way allthough it should have been so obvious...lol

I was 17 when this album came out. It was a complete departure from music that had preceded it and as a young man close to the height of testosterone blood concentration, it REALLY hit home. All the Blues wailing about women! Anyway, the first time I heard the album, I just couldn't wrap my head around how good it was on a variety of levels. Musically, lyrically, the "mood" of the album, the musicianship, the vocals - everything about it. Now, at 70, it's entertaining to live vicariously through other people's first "hearing". Well done.
