I can't tell you how many times I've dated guys who actually told me I quote, "geeesh, why are you sooo quiet?". So accurate! I once dated a guy who got mad because I got along with his friends and made them laugh… after we broke up most of his friends stayed friends with me. They’d ask for dating advice and stuff like that. No hidden intentions, just legit friends. Later on they stopped hanging with my ex cause he started causing drama in the group and apparently hit on one of their girlfriends to “show how it felt that they still talked to me”

Bro even when they get a quiet girl it's a problem. I like doing my own stuff alone. My ex would be playing his video games and I'm in my corner reading and suddenly he'd say "I don't feel like you care about us". I didn't care if we went out on dates or if he wanted to stay out late with his friends because I had exams and assignments to do and he'd complain that I didn't act like someone in a relationship. He got so mad that I wasn't on his case and didn't hang on to him for every little thing but I was 22 and he was my first boyfriend and by then I was happy doing things alone plus I have other priorities to take care of. Like I love your company but I need you to have things outside of being in a relationship

Were you his first gf? Sounds like he had some toxic ideas about what a relationship looked like. Some folk think if there isn’t constant conflict then a relationship isn’t “exciting” and there’s something wrong. Often whatever parent relationship that was modeled for them as a kid is a factor too. Without therapy, people tend to gravitate toward the unhealthy/toxic/abusive people and environments they grew up with bc it’s familiar and they know how to operate in them. It’s not guaranteed, it’s just a trend.
He coulda been used to someone toxic like he described, because even if it drove him nuts before like “ugh women are so clingy”, it made me feel valued and wanted in a round about way. But who knows for certain
@@Joyride37 I totally agree. My parents are very independent of each other. Like my mom always had her own things going on despite being a housewife for a lot of my childhood. She had her own businesses, did a lot of things in the community etc. And my dad supported her in all of her endeavours even when it didn't involve him. My ex's parents got divorced when he was a kid and it got messy and was bad for years with his parents getting together and breaking up over and over. There was always a fight, some drama going on between his parents and, now that I'm thinking about it, his past relationships we're also like that (I've known him for years before we got together). I don't feel bad about breaking up, I just feel sad for him. He didn't need another relationship, he needed therapy.

THIS! I used to wonder why the funniest guys in school would end up dating really quiet or just not-funny girls. Then I realized oooh, it's that the guys want to be the only funny one in the relationship. They didn't want a woman to make THEM laugh, they just wanted her to say, "You're so funny!"
Which I've never understood. There are just as many funny girls as there are guys who would make great relationships with. But no they just want women to boost their ego. (To be fair many of those types of guys aren't funny either they just act like they are.)

Men who want a quiet girlfriend don’t actually want a girlfriend. Relationships are about mutual respect, care and interest. If your “girlfriend” is talking too much for you, maybe you are in the wrong relationship because you don’t seem to value her perspective. All relationships need to have boundaries, and guys can ask to have time to play their games and watch their sports. There must also be some compromise. So, for example, if you are living together, all your free time can’t just be sports and games, but also helping her so she can have some relaxation time too. There also needs to be bonding time outside the bedroom where you share mutual interests. If you are at a party, you shouldn’t be the only one having fun. It’s not hard. Just act like you actually like the person you are dating.
This was another generalization posing as good advice. Are there some guys who fall into the category you described, absolutely. But thats not everyone. Some guys want a girl who just knows when to talk and share her perspective, and when to just be quiet. Just because you dont like everything about your partner doesn't mean you have the wrong one. Its the reason people say opposites attract.

I guess I was truly lucky. My late husband always said I was his peace, and he believed I was made for him. We had a ball laughing and joking all the time. We loved to entertain our friends and family. We even cooked together and sang together. He was my best friend, and I miss him so much.
@Monique4Life I miss mine too. I'm not saying we never had good times and that he was terrible. He was amazing when 36 years of pain and unhealed traumas surfaced. There was a long period when he was listening to Kevin Samuel's and his friends who were giving bad advice.
His 3 years are coming up next week, and today I found the only mothers Day card he ever got me. In the card , he wrote how much he loves and needs me. I knew I brought him the peace he needed. He just went into that weird stage. Before he passed, he had done a complete 180.

My partner is an abuse survivor and the reality of that really hit when they started apologizing to me for talking. Anything from "bothering" me with a call or text to ask a question, to making side comments while we're watching movies or even UA-cam videos. I remind them that what they think is important to me because we are and always will be equals. And, of course, they have an amazing therapist now who is really helping them find worth in themself. I couldn’t be more proud and in love.

I am very direct, observant, and quick witted (also have AuDHD which means I don’t observe social rules and cannot lie to save my life) plus I am very independent and self sufficient. So many men love these qualities in me at first. A girl that takes care of herself, saids what she thinks, can perceive nuances and different perspectives and communicates that clearly. No guessing games. They LOVE it, until …. They do some fuckery (normally cheat) and forget how observant, direct I am and that my value for myself and my independence means I don’t NEED them I have been CHOOSING to be with them. Then all of a sudden, I’m too much, too intense and I’m the problem because I’ve pulled a mirror up to their behaviours because I also don’t just bin them but I want them and myself to understand and learn but thats far too vulnerable and inconvenient for them so their appreciation for my passion apparently becomes my biggest flaw… like ok. And no not “all men” but this is a regular pattern I have seen. 80% of them come back months later apologising and admit that’s exactly what happened. They want someone real, until it gets real 🤗

One ilof the biggest compliments I've been given by a friend:
A large group of us went camping. Somehow, I was at the campsite alone. I see one friend sitting alone by the water, so I walk over to sit with her. When she heard my footsteps, she is disappointed because she wants to be alone. When she sees its me, she is relieved & thinks "Oh good. I don't have to talk with Kathy". We greet, then we sit in total silence for an hour. Then, she thanks me for the silence.
Both my mother in law & my mom feel the need to fill silence with words. It's exhausting.
The exact same thing is true for women and independence.

My favorite activity with friends is to be in the same room dead silent doing 10 different things. It makes me so happy

Regrading getting into a relationship, what has worked for me is that every couple of months I ask myself:
Do I want a partner (I.e., companionship, compromise, to be both heard and to listen, to be understood and be understanding of some else) OR do I want a personal assistant (I.e., someone to fulfil my needs and who comes and goes at my request)….
As my answer continues to be that I want a personal assistant, I know I am not ready to get into a relationship

The hilarious part was HE was the instigator of most of the arguments. All peaceful lying on the couch and he'd make an unnecessary comment about how i treat him unfairly but when I'd ask for an example, I'd get a word salad and 6 different tangents ...then he'd say he can't handle the drama.
It got to the point where I'd record conversations and play them back for myself days later.

I was always the quiet girlfriend. I'm an introvert so I mostly just speak when spoken to in social situations, especially if I don't know anyone yet. I was always quiet around my exes friends and family, but still polite and friendly. That was not good enough either. At this point you have to ask yourself what it is that men truly want. I am with a wonderful man now who accepts me and all my flaws just as I accept him with all of his flaws. I think that, at the end of the day, just be yourself and someone will come along who accepts you for you. Not all men prefer the same type of woman, just as not all women prefer the same type of man. We are all individuals with our own thoughts and feelings and preferences.
So true. Occasionally, I tend to jabber on and on and it can become very annoying. Even to me. I can tell from the look on my bff"s face when he has had enough and wants me to shut the heck up. One of my favorite family activities we started doing in my late teens after my parents got into video games was hanging out together in the living room while one person plays a game while the rest of us hang out and watch.
My wife is pretty outspoken and is also the funnier one in the relationship. It’s actually nice a lot of the time bc we go back and forth with banter and laugh with each other like crazy.
Now yeah, it’s a lot sometimes when i need my quiet but if i communicate that she’s pretty cool about it. you don’t need a partner that doesn’t say shit or just stays quiet, most times you just need a partner that you can communicate with and respects your needs and wants in the moment. But an important aspect of that, is that YOU have to respect her needs and wants when she tries to communicate with you too.
