“Sometimes quiet is violent” - Tyler struggled with severe depression and dark thoughts that would haunt him, particularly at night. But someone actually stole his car radio when he was in college. Being in silence when he was alone was a dangerous place for him to be. He couldn’t escape or drown out his thoughts. “I could pull the steering wheel” is a reference to suicidal thoughts 😿 But as the song progresses, he focuses on finding purpose and faith to battle the fear. And he encourages others to think - to continue the battle. And then he shows the power of the music, especially live concerts. They often pair deep lyrics/message with uplifting music. He has said that the music is therapy and the concerts are a celebration. This song live is a very powerful part of their set. At the end, the crowd is gone and his hair is back, representing going back to where he was at the beginning. When you are dealing with mental health struggles, it’s often a cycle. You battle and fight one day and then you are back to where you started. They use the cycle theme often in their storytelling. You should check out Migraine and Lane Boy.
The line "I could pull the steering wheel" hits too hard for me....I can't even listen to this song on my worst days because of that line. The temptation is very real.
My son struggled in high school and that line made me afraid to let him get his license. He's better now. But it was scary. Stay alive, my friend. Fight it! Every day is a day to make things happen. ❤️
I never took that line as driving off a cliff but rather as grabbing that steering wheel and screaming uncontrollably because that is what I have done so that my kids and ex-monster wouldn't be able to hear me. It definitly is a real thing. I took my anger out on the steering wheel.
Take the pain, ignite it, fren. My heart sinks when I hear that line, too, on some days. Then I stick around and watch the Clique carry Tyler back to the stage and to hear the screams, the release. Saloh Folina, call a Truce for today, fren. |-/
been a huge fan since 2016 and still to this day I get chills with this song during the climax because you can't express your frustration any better than what he and the crowd does.
Love your reactions to my favorite duo!!! "LANE BOY, HEAVY DIRTY SOUL, HEATHENS," AND MY FAVORITE "FAIRLY LOCAL"!! Can't wait hear more, just added you to my subsided list.
Funny you kept saying "Stressed Out" - that's their biggest hit - almost 3 billion views on UA-cam The hair coming back at the end is on purpose - when he puts the mask on he can hide who he really is - but at the end of the video - he takes that mask off, all the distractions are gone and he's back to the same nervous guy from the beginning You'd probably like Lane Boy
So much better than "Lane" exists. I do respect your recommendation but there's so much more to Tyler Joseph than radio play jams. Besides....someone stole his car radio 😎
Migraine ✌️😊🧿💙maybe Guns for Hands to explain the mask….oh, and every song is different….and you noticed his hair was back! Good!!! Videos are very important!!
This is my favorite of theirs. Their beats are deceptively upbeat, and I'm ashamed it took me so long to really *listen*, but I instantly fell in love with their top hits (Stressed Out, Heathens, Lane Boy, Ride, HeavyDirtySoul, etc.) and then I had to listen to it all. 😊 I think his hair coming back gives it the "was it all a dream?" vibes, but Tyler usually leaves their work open to multiple interpretations.
This song has such a powerful message, you'll pick up more and more every time you hear it and watch this vid. They work so well together. My fave part is where the crowd lifts Tyler up and carries him back to stage as the beat drops, when he can't do it for himself. Strength in numbers. Gives me chills every time! Keep up the journey, fren, can't go wrong with this duo!! |-/ 🤍♥️🤍
Subscribed to see more twenty one pilots. I’m glad you are enjoying reacting to them, they have so many amazing songs. Lane Boy or Migraine would be great next choices, both have official music videos.
Just came across your channel. Such a great band that I was just introduced to a few years ago. They are impressive all around. See them live, promise you will be happy you did so. What an experience!
You can not put Twenty One Pilots in a box. They cover too many genres, usually at the same time. The lyrics are deep, real deep. Like this is some of the most talented writing I've ever heard. You need to do more TOP, trust me.
