    I have been a SCUBA diver for over 25 years now. I knew an older gentlemen about 25 years ago that told me about his check out dive on a dive boat, just off the shores of Northern California, near Carmel to be precise. He had just exited the water and was on the boat waiting for the other students to surface. He said they saw one of the divers, about 30 to 40 feet from the boat just shoot out of the water like a fishing bobber. That divers buddy helped him get to the ladder at the boat and a few of the guys on deck hoisted him on board by his hands. He said he had been bitten completely in half right at the waist line. The poor guy was still alive and passed quickly as he bleed out severely.
    This never stopped me from diving. I've dove at night, in kelp forests, just about anywhere and everywhere I could think of. I will be honest though and when I'm paddling out from shore at midnight with a buddy and we go a good half a mile or more and I see the lights of the stores and houses and restaurants start getting farther away it is unnerving. Then we get to the buoy that is rocking back and forth from the swells, you can't help but think that we must resemble injured seals or large fish that are hurt and flailing on the surface of the water.
    I think if you can keep your feet out of the water and accomplish the same thing, I would work for that set up first.
    Thanks for the video and info. Always a thumbs up bro..
    God Bless

      +skyym3 wow what a crazy story. What a horrible way to go :/ I've done at night to while not nearly as far offshore as you but I completely understand the feeling. Almost helpless if anything were to happen. Don't think I'll be doing this float tube again but I will continue to dive. Only near shore maybe 100 yards away. I know there's still some danger but can't help getting back in

      Fisherman's Life ... Ya, it got to me cuz I could see the emotion in the mans face as he was telling me what had happened. I also was about a week or two away from my open water check out dive and even though it wasn't a night dive, it was on my mind. Of course the dive master was always telling us in class that nobody ever even sees a shark, the big ones and it really was all just hype.
      Thanks for the reply and all the video. All the best to ya.
      God Bless

    you didn't get seasick because 2 reasons, #1 you had your legs in water, that let you have contact with water and improve feeling. #2 you was on an airboat which very flexible, not hard rock like kayak or normal boat. big different.
    next time bring a line or a mesh bag to keep the fish, you was lucky when there no shark around , never bleeding a fish when you on a little boat like that.

    I have the exact same float tube. Steering gets easy. To turn, just kick with only one foot as you angle your hips. You need to add rod holders and a float for your fishing rod in case it accidentally slips out of your hand

    • @sammichai805
      @sammichai805 6 років тому

      you can DIY rod holders from 1.5"-2" PVC pipe about 12-14" long draw a center line down the length and drill a hole about 1" from the end and connect around tube with a bunji cord. Welcome to float tube fishing remember in the ocean you are part of the food chain;)

    Fisherman’s life I think you are a great outdoor motivator. The following is a truth fact.
    I always wanted a boat, but due to space and budget it was not possible. Then I thought about a raft, searched on UA-cam and came across with one of your vids. I saw that you modified a raft with plywood floor. I did the same thing with a Seahawk 2. I learned that it would not be safe for heavy use or family fishing. I searched for other options and made the decision of buying a Seaeagle 420X kayak. Tested it in reservoirs with high current eg. (San Luis reservoir). Learned a lot things including the dangers. I started modifying my kayak. Now it’s one of its kind (trolling motor and many other upgrades). I launched this year at Santa Cruz small craft harbor regularly and it was so much fun. You inspired me to live my dream and the raft I have fulfilled my dream (for now). Thanks for sharing your time and effort. Happy New Years.

    Keep it up Bro.I'm much older than you but when I was a kid I used to get seasick every time on a boat. But I love to fish so much I never let it stop me. I remember one time fishing albacore close to a hundred miles off the So Cal coast and it was so rough I was puking and catching at the same time, wind wind puke, wind wind puke. Everyone else on the boat was teasing me but I ended up catching about 8 big albacore and became the hero to my family and friends for all the fish I gave everyone. I think I was about 14 and that was the worst seasickness I ever had. After a while I realized I didn't get sick nearly as often and not nearly as bad. After a couple years I not only stopped getting sick but started to never feel queasy. You'll get over it, I never had a devoted buddy who didn't also get over it. Over the last 40 years since, it's only happened a few times. Nobody is immune, sometimes when your anchored in the trough with the wind going one way and the current another way, even commercial fisherman will get queasy.But never give up, I promise you that you'll get over it.Some of my friends swear by candied ginger or ginger ale, it's better than getting doped up on the pills.Thanks for your great vids, I enjoy seeing the fish your catching farther north.Dave

    No!!! Please refrain from bleeding out the fish on small floaty . My boyfriend and I like your videos and would prefer if you stayed alive. We both have been so inspired by your videos and are trying to move to Cali to fish.

    When I float tubed in my High School days the float was just a rubberized canvas sack that we would put a truck inner tube inside. And yes I did take mine out to the Ocean
    on many occasions. And flipped over on many occasions. Good times.

    Matts, thanks for this video. Been subscribed for a while and finally making my way through (literally all of your videos). I have been looking at smaller options for getting out into the bay for fishing since I can't afford a boat right now and saw you pull out the personal float! I can't wait to finish watching it and hear what you think about it.

      i wonder if it has a serial number? Fisherman? ...Saw one at Lake Chabot with a troller. I guess you can get a lithium battery now which is super light and small. Looked nice and like it packed down hella small.

    • @josephsaeteurn9158
      @josephsaeteurn9158 6 років тому

      when you registered with dmv they will give you the number. it's not worth it for float tube let along trying to install the motor. . maybe a inflatable raft. i did it before it was worth it.

      Joseph Saeteurn To get a CF number the vessel needs to have a serial number to begin with. You may be able to get one from the manufacturer if its not already on the tube.

    Get a proper fillet knife. You are a fisherman and knife you using is a bushcraft knife. You would not use 100 pund rod for catching rainbow trout right ?

      Studio ghible Fan get a firearm, I recommend a high caliber rifle used to shoot elephant or maybe a 20 gauge shotgun firing slugs. Then throw some bloody meat in and be generous about it too! Then when you see it, you shoot that bastard in the noggin until you see it float.

    As a chef I can tell you that "butter" is the perfect fat to cook seafood protein in. Try to skim
    the whey off the top when it melts first (that is what burns)then put the fish in after it is hot and yum.
