It always amazes me so much, how incredibly well these characters were played. The slight social awkwardness, the vacant look in Yosh's eyes when Stan is telling a story, the slightly awkward laughs at their brother's jokes, just down to the last detail they are so fleshed out, so believable. It's just incredible how real the Schmenge brothers seem to these guys.
We had a once a week after work bowling league which involved a lot of drinking and a lot of fun. My team was The Schmenge Brothers. Our lineup? Yosh, Stan, Cabbage Rolls, and Coffee. We won the championship at least once, maybe more... (a lot of drinking so not sure). RIP Cabbage Rolls.
Great comedic talent! Hard to believe John Candy has been gone so long 😢. Thankfully we have videos of the past to introduce new generations to this fine comedian. 😂
Eugene Levy (accordion) and John Candy (clarinet) playing their instruments and backed by Will Lee (tuba), Sid McGinnis (trumpet), Steve Jordan (drums) and Paul Shaeffer (keyboards)! Such talented fellows.
there will never be another duo as great as the great Schmenge's. Simon and Garfunkle? No way. Sonny and Cher, Steeley Dan, Sam & Dave, Ike & Tina. No comparison.
My wife didn’t see the humor in this show when she first seen it 33 years ago....I raved and raved about it so when we sat down to watch it the first time she just didn’t get the humor (and that marriage proposal probably had her off balance too) but after me watching it over and over through the years she warmed up to it. Now when I play it she just laughs and laughs. Strikes Spares and Schemenges!
Aah - you mean Linsk Minyk! The great singer who was backed by the Happy Wanderers and managed by the Shmenge Brothers at the bargain rate of only 50% of his fee. That was so much better than the 75% that their former agent, Mrs. Vicki Mahoney-Cohen (wife of the mysteriously deceased Colonel Cohen), used to charge.
I read that Eugene Levy was an accomplished player of the accordion, but that John Candy could not play the clarinet, and they therefore had another person playing in the background.
Of course, Stan was heartbroken after Yosh’s untimely passing. But, we all know now what the maximum capacity of cabbage rolls are to be consumed with just a single cup of hot coffee. God’s speed Yosh!
Is that what happened to poor Yosh? I remember reading a sort of tell all tabloid book called "Dark Side of the Schmenges" that made it sound as if Yosh perished in the infamous polka riots at Leonard Post in Cheektowaga NY. If I remember correctly the venue severely underestimated the turnout for their show and the crowd turned ugly when there wasn't enough coffee to go with the cabbage rolls. The audience rushed the stage and although Stan managed to duck out the back, Yosh tripped and was beaten mercilessly by audience members with his own clarinet. The clarinet made a full recovery, but Yosh was not so lucky.
@@jackwatson3944 I don’t think the point of the performance is all out comedy. They got the audience to participate in a polka which isn’t exactly considered to be very hip. They aren’t trying to insult polka performers but in a way to honor them. I think it’s a great performance with some humor.
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Funny stuff. I think the other brother's name is Jas, pronounced Yash
And they never break character. That's part of the brilliance of the Schmenge Brothers.

I love how into it the crowd was and then David playing it straight the whole time.
John Candy was so committed -- that's why he was great.
CANADA'S PRIDE.
These two are priceless!! Comedy at it's Finest.. Miss John Candy so much..❤❤❤❤🥰🥰
I saw them when they reunited at Live Aid in 85! They played right after Queen and blew them away. Great performance!

That’s Will Lee on the tuba?! Nice catch!
Love that Schaefer and the drummer use their sheet music for the finale!

This makes me so happy.
Awe
I saw them in Milwaukee in ‘79 and it was amazing!
I saw them at Woodstock. They had 500,000 people on their feet.
Hyde park,1969 “The Happy Wanderers”
500,000 wild Poka fans!

I proposed to my wife watching The Last Polka 32 years ago.
Did you really? Omg, that’s wonderful if you did😊
Hope you’re both still together.

There was nothing Paul and The World's Most Dangerous Band couldn't do !!
Holy crap, I had no idea Levy and Candy were actually such musicians!!
Cabbage rolls and coffee are actually pretty good. There should have been a perogies polka though :)
Hmm, Hmm, good!
ua-cam.com/video/P-nl2yub4yQ/v-deo.html
Are perogies a dish served commonly in Leutonia? Did you know there are no trees in Leutonia?
If they had perogies I'm sure they'd be mmm mmm good.
@@m1t2a1 There is one small tree in Leutonia located in the governors living room.
Improv level = flawless ♥

6:19 88 albums in a year and a half. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
jOHN cANDY WAS SO FUNNY. gOD BLESS HIS SOUL.
Yosh looks a lot like Gus Polinski the Polka King of the Midwest. He can't even walk down the street in Sheboygan.
I can't think of a single other statement that contained so many words that make me giggle.
John Candy can make me laugh just being on camera.
Miss John Candy
Mister John Candy
Comedy gold.
That’s for sure!!
The drummer's having a great time!
Yosh and Stan Schmenge, The Happy Wanderers
"we can see it with the eyes"... who writes this? genius
I'd like to think most of it is improvised.
Reminds of that Strikes Spares and Shmenges tshirt I bought while searching Google
Gotta Love Those Schmenges!
Should have included the third Schemenge brother ( Rick Moranis) 🤣

I think the coolest guy on stage is the trumpet player, the guy with the purple collar. He's also very handsome.
buddy on the tuba is just given'er.😂
Holy shit I'm an idiot. Just realized this was a dubbed track, not a live performance. Still fantastic.
I wonder how many people will accuse them of cultural appropriation of people from a fictional country
nobody
crazy funny
I know. John Candy.
Looks like Eugene is actually playing that accordion.

What, exactly, has been "remastered"?
Life was better then.
yes it was

Inspired by real life polka king Walter Ostanek I'm sure.
