@Hoops Historian since it doesnt have af anways, id get the canon ef one, then u have f1.2 on the gh5, if you need it... but the native mft mount doesnt need the speedbooster, so its a bit more lightweight
Great video! Just subscribed! I recently got the Metabones 0.71x and the Sigma 18 - 35. I also ordered the Rokinon Cine DS 35mm and 85mm. Doing the 'normal' math for these lenses, would the metabones and Rokinon combo bring the T stop down to 1.0? I've been looking all over the internet but nobody has given me a definite answer. You said (5:00) we will get another half stop of light through the Metabones. Does that mean it goes down to T1.4? I might get the Canon 50mm STM 1.8 just for kicks. Again, great video and great music videos.
Thanks Tyler, as someone who speaks direct to camera and coaches golfers would you recommend the GH5 as I’ve been told the auto focus isn’t very good and thus it’s a two person camera...me speaking with a camera man. Love to hear your thoughts
Danny Maude yeah I would not really rely on the autofocus, I would look into the Sony cameras like the a7iii for better autofocus options or even the a6300
Tyler needed your sincere advice here, I'm a vlogger/film-maker on UA-cam & soon getting the GH5. For my type of shots i.e Wide-Angle lens for vlogging (specifically), what lens do you recommend? *WHICH WORKS WITHOUT THE METABONE* Waiting for your reply buddy! cheers.
I just got this lens amzn.to/2vzuF0a8-18mm and it is amazing. Really pricey but worth it! It has auto-focus too which is awesome! This lens is another good option amzn.to/2HP2gpb Both will attach straight on to your gh5! The 8-18mm will give you more range so you can zoom in for b-roll. Hope this was helpful,
Much appreciated for your immediate reply Bruv! Just a little favour, the link you sent me for that 8-18mm redirects me to amazon homepage, can you recheck? Thank you very much!
What's Up Tyler! When you're filming the music videos or doing photography with these lenses, are you saying the Metabones makes the GH5 capable of autofocusing with the lenses (though somewhat untrustworthy)or that you manual focus?
I got the 13-35mm sigma 1.8f free with my lumix gh4 because the pawn shop had the lens on it and I paid $400 for the camera and all attachments combined.
@@TylerCaseyProd yeah. Roughly $1400 in all equipment. I use it as a stream webcam but am looking for something of a slightly wider angle lens or just more of my setup shown as I am getting a collectible shelf soon.
Kind of important to point out, but just a technical error, your SpeedBooster actually adds a full 1 1/3 stops of light, while the x0.71 gives a full single stop, not the half that you quote for your x0.64.
Good day, i finally bought the GH5 this week and i also bought the Metabones Speedbooster Ultra with the Sigma 18-35mm and the Tokina 11-16, but for some reason the Sigma lens isn't fitting on the speedbooster is seems like the mount is too small, but the Tokina lens fit perfectly, so i had to return the Sigma lens.... This is my first mirrorless camera so i made sure to ask the company first before i purchase it... this is the description of the sigma lens i bought lens (F/1.8 DC HSM A (Art) EF Mount Lens For Canon APS-C Sensor DSLRS)
Great advice! I subscribed. Loved that u put some examples from your videos, they look stunnning. I might get a Gh5 soon and for the moment i‘d prefer working only with native lenses. Which lense do u think i could use next to the 12-35? Thank you for any suggestion ;)
Informative video..I have the rokinon 85mm for shooting music video now I jus need a very crisp lens for shootin wide angles and music videos..wat do you recommend?
FYI regarding DOF the lens is still F 1.8. The 1.1 is just a reference to the more light that hits the sensor. Also when you zoom in and out with the sigma in your video, there is a light change. Did you have any auto settings active?
I recently bought the ef 70 200mm and I plan on getting the 12-35 Panasonic Lens,I also have a youngnuo 5omm to do close ups,so if you were shooting a comedy and a drama so what kind of shots would you use these 2 lens for, I know the ef is zoom lens but it also looks good up close, what shots would do with each lens I'm just checking for advice
The metabones and the alternatives are better than you think. The metabones ultra at .71x gains you an extra stop and the metabones XL at .64x gains you 1 and 1/3 stops. I'm glad you included them in your review because I'm wondering whether to go with the Panasonic 2.8 lenses or get the speedbooster and manual focus when needed.
Great video. I recently got the rokinon 85mm f1.4 and had really high hopes for it. I don't know if this is the same on yours but it's very very soft wide open. Lots of bloom around the highlights and the contrast is meh. Do you usually stop it down when shooting? I think around 2.0 it's good but wide open for me is really not usable. I'm also using speedbooster+g9. The 18-35 is Razer sharp. Live that lens.
Yeah I love the 18-35 as well. I usually stop down but sometimes I like the soft look and all the crazy flares I get from the 85mm, I think its a solid long lens for the price.
Budget alternative: G85 with Viltrox EF-M2 0.71x speedbooster. That's what I have for my Sigma 18-35. My OM-D E-M1 Mark II has phase-detect autofocus, so that actually works somewhat with the Sigma lens. I definitely want to upgrade my G85 to a GH5 at some point, but I need a really good reason first. The G85 is pretty nice in its own right!
Nice and informative video, thanks! I am new on GH5 and a bit confused about the sigma 18-35mm. Which type should I choose? The one for Cannon? In this case is it going to work in combination with the Viltrox EF-M2 II Speed Booster 0.71x Adapter (Canon EF/EF-S)?
Hey tyler, thank you for the informative video! I was just curious about the rokinon 85mm. I noticed you posted a link for the canon version do you prefer that setup with the metabones over the micro four thirds version?
I have the four main Rokinon Cine DS lenses (18mm, 25mm, 35mm and 85mm) - all MFT, so no adapter needed. I have a Lumix 14-45mm lens - do you feel that's good enough, or is the 12-35mm better? How do you feel about the Olympus 40-100mm lens?
*Great video, thanks for sharing! I'm deciding between the M43 or the Nikon mount for the Rokinon 85mm on my GH5. It would look great with a SpeedBooster I'm sure!*
Think getting the Sigma 18-35 AND Panasonic 12-35(or 12-60) would be good? I want the Sigma for creative shots and low light, and Panasonic for traveling... just not sure if it's overkill.
I had a Tamron 2nd generation 10-24 3.4 (2.9 with Metabones XL) instead of tokina 11-16, and Im very glad with this glass, thinking of better sharpness with tamron. Also I have canon 24-105, lumix 12-60, famous canon 50 1.8 and my best lovely old sigma 20mm 1.8 (1.2 with speedboster).
Hey Tyler great recommendations here..... What are your I.S. settings when you did your music video shoots shown in this video when you used the 12-35mm lens?

Christopher Sue Thanks. The tokina will be wider since it goes through the metabones. It becomes a lot wider. You can get this lens or like the 7-14 mm Lumix. Both will work 👍
is sigma 18-35 native for the GH5 mount? Can I use the Autofocus and all the electronic controls? Also, when I adapt a metabones, do the other electronic controls (except for autofocus) work or not?
Definately look into that Viltrox EF-M2. Maybe produce a video showing other viewers that for literally a fraction of the cost of a Metabones you can achieve the same focal reduction as well as better AF capabilities.
I have the olympus 14-42 mm f3.5-5.6 and rokinon 35mm T1.5 for m43. Will the viltrox m2 adapter make my lenses faster? And if so to how much. Idk what half a stop means
the problem with the metabones XL .64x is that it gives vignetting on full HD and stills photo. unless your shooting mainly 4k that has a crop in it then i suggest you take the ultra with the 0.71x.. or just get the viltrox ef-m2 II.. much cheaper.
According to you, which are 2 must have lens for shooting music videos with gh5? I'd appreciate your suggestions as i plan to buy Gh5! Thank you for your videos!
My personal best are lumix 12-35 2.8 and lumix 20 1.7 They cover all for adventure filming plus give you some outstanding low light on e.g. Panasonic GH5. In my opinion a perfect combination, especially that 20mm is sized like a small box of matches
thanks for the video! with the 11-16, are you able to achieve infinity focus? i've read online that some people have to adjust the settings inside the speedbooster to attain infinity. really want this lens, just not if i have to mess with the metabones factory settings. i have the nikon mount xl .64 thanks!
What lens would you reccomend for close up videos? I have the gh4 and the 14-140 lens which doesnt seem brilliant. Especially when close in videos and images.

I'm thinking about buying the GH5 to make travel videos, and i wanna keep it simple and versatile, if you had to choose just one lense what would it be? Thanks!
Great selection! You should try the Prominar 8.5mm prime. Zero distortion. Most epic wide angle for establishing scenes, steady-cam work, wild shots or combat fucking awesome! Expensive yes around 800 bucks but older Prominar anamorphic lenses are used in Hollywood and cost thousands so I guess that's a steal for the quality you get :D PS. : Very nice shots man!
I wish more of these lenses were native micro 4/3 lenses... I feel like you had to include the metabones in the list, because the next 3 lenses were for Canon mount. 😔and the metabones is more expensive than a lot of the lenses on this list. Not exactly the best choice for someone who is on a budget, but maybe just bought a GH4 or GH5 and needs some good budget glass to put on it.
Hey man! I am shooting on my gh4 with the apurture lens regain and the sigma 18-35. I really have issues getting a crystal-clear video. I dont know why. The native olympus 25mm does give me a great picture. I am even shooting with F3.2 to make sure my subject is in focus but I dont get that sharp look for some reason. Do you know why that is?
Thanks for the vid Tyler! QUESTION: Have you had any issues shooting on the Sigma 18-35 in either FHD or 4K using the Metabones XL .64 version? Metabones website recommends the ULTRA (older .71 version) for the GH5 rather than the XL. They say: "On GH5, Speed Booster XL can be used with full frame lenses only. DX lenses are unable to cover full-sensor-width readout + in-body image stabilizer (IBIS)."
People call the Sigma 18-35 the “God lens.” I can’t argue with it. It really is a special piece of glass. And paired with the Metabones, it becomes ridiculously fast.
I'm a Canon owner currently but I'm moving to a GH5 and was curious if you HAVE to have the Metabones adapter for the Canon lenses to mount onto the GH5 or can they mount like a native GH5 lens. I assume you would need the adapter but I'm not sure as I've never owned anything other than Canon equipment. Thanks
Yes so the native mount on the Gh5 is the Micro Four Thirds MFT so you would have to get an adapter to mount your EF to the MFT on the GH5 there is a cheaper alternative to the metabones as well. Viltrox- amzn.to/390HfVq
@@MrIggybo certain speedboosters like the metabones and the aputure Dec lens regain give 1 stop of light so the Sigma 1.8 becomes 1.2 or 1.4, I can't remember the exact aperture because I rarely shoot that wide open with mine.
Don't buy Metabones speedboosters. Get the Viltrox EF-M2 ($125); it's as good as the Metabones, it even fits more snugly with the lens and camera. With $650 (for a Metabones) you can get 5 different Viltrox speedboosters for different lens mounts. But I'd just buy the Viltrox EF-M2 and then get cheap dummy adapters that convert M42, Nikon F, Sony E, Minolta A and so on to Canon EF.
So you’re more into the zooms huh. I’m more into primes but I do have a sigma 18-35 Nikon mount. I wasn’t into it at first took me a bit but now I’m kinda digging it
For some reason I'm itching for a new lens. I have the 25mm Voiglanter 0.95, the 12-35 vario (1st gen) and a metabones speedbooster +24-105 canon glass. Trying to decide if I REALLY need something else or not. Hah
@@TylerCaseyProd Is the 11-20 better? Or would you still prefer the 11-16? Tbh I am only interested in using the 11 or 12, but I am curious why they are relatively the same price
Cool vid. Does the Rikonon need the Metabone to fit the gh5... or can it go straight on there?
No they make them straight some that go straight on the camera, Micro for thirds mount- amzn.to/2F47hMN

Also if you have the sigma 18-35mm that covers that for you at a F1.8 too!
I gotcha.... that makes sense.... thanks for the reply!
Hmm maybe it is the adapter you are using to mount the lens
How is it with an ef-s lens like tokina 11-16, I thought it wasn't compatible with ef-s lens.
I have not noticed it but I did get the GH5s so I do not have IBIS anymore. That would help with the vignette as well so I would go with that.
The Sigma 18-35mm lens on a GH5 with the Metabones XL .64 vignettes up to about 20mm in video mode. The vignette is more severe in photo mode.
People call the Sigma 18-35 the “God lens.” I can’t argue with it. It really is a special piece of glass. And paired with the Metabones, it becomes ridiculously fast.
Its a great bang for your buck. The colors out of it are great and how close you can focus is insane!
I heard the Rikonon's are awesome but the build quality is only decent so they don't last no more than 3 years. How long have you had yours?
Probably about 3-4 and it still feels solid
I'm a Canon owner currently but I'm moving to a GH5 and was curious if you HAVE to have the Metabones adapter for the Canon lenses to mount onto the GH5 or can they mount like a native GH5 lens. I assume you would need the adapter but I'm not sure as I've never owned anything other than Canon equipment.
Thanks
Yes so the native mount on the Gh5 is the Micro Four Thirds MFT so you would have to get an adapter to mount your EF to the MFT on the GH5 there is a cheaper alternative to the metabones as well.

Would the Rokinon be better than Canon 85mm 1-8?
look up lens comparisons I have never used both
4:14 "This lens, I believe, is a 1.8" while looking at the lens, which clearly states it's a 2.8
I got confused because I usually use the Meta-bones and it does bring the lens down to a F/1.8
How is a f2.8 a f1.8 with a speedbooster? Focal reduction doesn’t work that way...
@@MrIggybo certain speedboosters like the metabones and the aputure Dec lens regain give 1 stop of light so the Sigma 1.8 becomes 1.2 or 1.4, I can't remember the exact aperture because I rarely shoot that wide open with mine.
12mm Rokinon can replace the 11-16mm for most cases. and in my area costs 1/2 the price
Great vid i only use sigma 18-35, 50mm1.8 and tamron 70-200 mm
DRAMAFLS PRODUCTION nice havent tried the tamaron yet
Tyler Casey Productions at 200mm the amount of compression and blur u get it’s crazy love that lens
Good info here...thanks. Is the Tokina lens a Nikon mount? If so how are you using it with the GH5 via a Canon SB adapter?
It is EF. Just fixed the link
OK cool...thought I was missing something. You have cool and inspiring content. Just subscribed.
Awesome appreciate that!
Which Gimbel is good for the Sigma 18-35 + metabones combi? I ordered a gh5 s and would like to film with these combi.
Robin m can handle it maybe the ronin s or Crane 3. Weigh your set up and then check the play loud of the gimbal you want
I am looking for a wide lens. What do you think about the 12mm f2 Samyang?
Or do you have a better alternative?
That would be a solid lens! Good price too!
metabone vs viltrox ef m2 ? What are you recommend ?
Don't buy Metabones speedboosters. Get the Viltrox EF-M2 ($125); it's as good as the Metabones, it even fits more snugly with the lens and camera. With $650 (for a Metabones) you can get 5 different Viltrox speedboosters for different lens mounts. But I'd just buy the Viltrox EF-M2 and then get cheap dummy adapters that convert M42, Nikon F, Sony E, Minolta A and so on to Canon EF.
Agreed thank you! It has been awhile since this video!
So you’re more into the zooms huh.
I’m more into primes but I do have a sigma 18-35 Nikon mount.
I wasn’t into it at first took me a bit but now I’m kinda digging it
A1Bokeh - primes are great too! I love how fast they are but with music videos sometimes zooms save a lot of time
Tyler Casey feeel you makes sense depending on the shots 👍
you really should mention more about the crop factor
How does the image quality and look compare to the 12-35 when you use the sigma
Any advice on what profile you use for your videos.... thanks
Cine like d
Thanks do you dial it back or anything? Great looking videos
So if i understand it well, i dont need any adapter and i can just use it on my GH5?
Hi is the Rokinon a direct fit on the GH5 or do I need an adapter?
great video !!!
Looking on getting a gh5 and this was the video I needed.
Mena-Courtade Productions glad I could help 🙏
The panasonic 12-35mm is great, but too bad it's focus by wire.. makes manual focus a pain
Yeah I really don't like the focus on it but you can make it work.
I wonder if that sexy Rokinon 85mm works with the LensRegain for follow focus...
Not sure let me know if you try it!
Hey Tyler! Wich lens is better for GH5 to blurry backround? 12-60 or 12-35?
Jose Sat just responded on IG thanks for watching
So Autofocus doesn't work *at all* with the Metabones Speedbooster, or does it work, but is just unreliable?
It will work some what but not very good. Native is the way to go if you want some auto focus.
Is the 85mm lens equal to 170 on full frame, or what?
I'd rather buy the Panasonic 14-140mm zoom instead of the 12-35mm! But I'm not that fixed on wide angle than Tyler! ;)
Thanks for the review. Laowa 7.5 f2 amazing wide lens
I used a friends it is awesome!
As always great content!
I don't have a speedbooster! I want a 1.5 aputure lens with stabilization.
This is f 1.7 with no IS but its only $250...If you have the GH5 the body will do the work with the IBIS - amzn.to/2W5HbOh
Check out my test video of the 12-35mm

Thanks for this video, it really helped me in buying the right lens
Glad I could help!
I think sigma 18-35 + canon 50 mm f1.8 it’s very good
That’s a great set up too 🙌
Great review. Thanks for your input
Thanks! Glad you found it useful!
For some reason I'm itching for a new lens. I have the 25mm Voiglanter 0.95, the 12-35 vario (1st gen) and a metabones speedbooster +24-105 canon glass. Trying to decide if I REALLY need something else or not. Hah
Great! No way to fix for infinity focus issue with Tokina 11-16?
Can I use these lenses on gh4
Why not the tokina 11-20 rather than the tokina 11-16?
JacksMagicBean this was made before that lens was released
@@TylerCaseyProd Is the 11-20 better? Or would you still prefer the 11-16? Tbh I am only interested in using the 11 or 12, but I am curious why they are relatively the same price
Hi do you use rokinon 85mm with micro 4/3 mount or fullframe cameras? thanks
I use it with both!
