    I was so confused about what lenses to get. This video made it pretty easy for me because it is the first one talking about GH5 lenses, where I actually really appreciated the visuals and the sample shots. That's the look I want! Great video!

      Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, I've always been keen to include tonnes of sample footage in my videos. I've since moved to the S5 and full frame lenses but I do miss the "bang for buck" you get with these small but incredible lenses.

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Clickumentary...it really is a special lens! There's just something a bit magical about how it renders the background and the fact that it's razor sharp even at f1.2 means it's still one of my favourite lenses. Definitely an investment that helps your footage stand out from the crowd!

    For me right now I can pretty much shoot a whole wedding with the Panasonic 12-35 f/2.8II, 35-100 f/2.8II, and Mitakon 25 f/0.95. Throw in the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 for some establishing shots and it's a super great tiny kit (especially compared to my old Canon C100II kit!) Nice little video, I'm really interested in getting either the Panasonic 15 f/1.7 or the Voigtlander 17.5 f/0.95 for the reasons that you outlined above, sometimes the 25 is a bit tight.

    Good starting lens choices for those wanting to go down the prime route but I would encourage people to experiment with a lot of other options too. Especially if you want your work to stand out of the crowd. One of my favourite recommendations is to go super-wide on the dancefloor. I've got some amazing results using a speed booster and a Sigma 10-20mm 3.5 set to 14mm (about 18mm full frame after all the maths). Going wider than 30mm actually accentuates the feeling of being in the action even more, and the super-wide feel of view gives a really epic, dramatic feel to the footage, as well as reducing any visible unwanted movement either handheld or on a steadicam (I use a steadicam). In my experience it's easiest to compose shots on the dancefloor (especially on a tight dancefloor) when you're either very wide or quite tight shooting through people. I wouldn't recommend the super-wide for much else other than the dancefloor though (except in unusually tight situations where it can be a handy lens to have) as the lens distortion and soft corners can be an issue.

      Hey Rhodri. Great to see you here in the comments section :) That's the great thing about MFT...there are so many options available to suit your particular needs. I tried some dance action with the Tokina 11-16mm and I agree you get some really cool footage. I chose the 15mm in this video because it's a great all-round lens, amazing in low-light and sooo small and light! I still use it throughout the day at every wedding. P.s. Sorry for the slow reply. The channel is going to be a lot more active this year so stay tuned!

    My personal best are lumix 12-35 2.8 and lumix 20 1.7 They cover all for adventure filming plus give you some outstanding low light on e.g. Panasonic GH5. In my opinion a perfect combination, especially that 20mm is sized like a small box of matches

    You settled the matter for me. For the last two days I have been researching so much about cheap manual lenses and costly fast lenses for low light. I hope all the three lenses you use have pin point auto focus facility. I just bought a g85 two days ago with a 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому

      The kit lens is great for family stuff. However, you'll see a big improvement with any of the lenses mentioned in this video. As they are native lenses, the autofocus accuracy is spot on!

    You presented a lot of good points about the 15mm... it really does make people feel like they're there experiencing it themselves. A lot of filmmakers, I've noticed, will shoot everything very zoomed in or very zoomed out, which has its place, but for weddings might not be the best style. Anyways, just stopped by because I'm a fellow GH5 user (love this camera). You seem to know what you're doing with these wedding films! I'd appreciate it if you checked out my channel - I think there are a couple videos in there you might enjoy. Keep up the great work, cheers! -new sub

      Ben Pendlebury - Wedding Filmmaker 75 is sharp wide open and nice bokeh, great for focus pulls with the GH5 focus transition. Focal length is bit restrictive but if you can work a shot with it it’s usually a good one.

    Great video and you are right about being a part of the party with the 15mm, but the closest to the eye is 50mm, which means the 25mm on the GH5. That is why the 50mm is so popular on other camera brands and called “nifty fifty”.

    hi im currently using 60d canon. but planning to move to mft because of stabilization for run and gun shooting on handheld, better sharpness and smaller compact camera easy to carry around. because im tired carrying around the monopod especially during special events like weddings, its kinda took long time to move from monopod to flycam/gimbal. do you think its good? im planning to get g85 with 14-42 lens and 25mm 1.7 because thats the only camera with kit that suits my budget. do you think its kinda miss moving from aps-c to mft? since i always love to shoot scene bokeh for more cinematic, i realize that panasonic have 25mm 1.7 but when converting to 35mm focal length is 50mm 3.4 i believe, so do you think the bokeh good enough since i got used to creamy bokeh on apsc? i dont really mind about autofocus since i prefer manual focus, on gimbal seems no problem as well for autofocus since its able to tap focus or using focus wheel on gimbal. so i would like to know your opinion since im planning to change my camera very soon. thanks

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому

      I own the G85 and it's an amazing camera for weddings...like a mini GH5 with a small crop when you film in 4K. The stabilisation is amazing so you'll be able to film most of the day handheld (you'll still want a tripod for ceremonies and speeches). I moved from Canon 6D, to Canon C100 and now GH5...so I've gone backwards in terms of sensor size. However, I love MFT for all of the reasons you described. I find low light performance and bokeh to be great so long as you use prime lenses. You'll be able to get brilliant results with the 25mm 1.7 all day. In terms of whether the 'look' and bokeh is what you're looking for, just look at lots of example footage and decide whether you would be happy with it. In general, I have no regrets whatsoever with moving to MFT. They are fun to use and perfect for weddings! Just do your research and maybe rent or borrow one and do your own test to make your own mind up first. Best wishes, Ben

    Excellent video and great lenses, which I also use and love. Do you consider Olympus 12-100 f4 a good alternative for wedding photography and video, when compared to Lumix 35-100 f2.8? Or is the difference between f2.8 and f4 too big? I am curious to know your opinion as I am considering replacing the Lumix 12-35, 35-100 f2.8 and 14-140 (which I use on vacation), with a single lens - Oly 12-100.

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому

      Thanks! Whilst it would be lovely to strip things down to one lens, I don't think f4 aperture would give you enough brightness in dark settings to be honest! If you didn't mind using a prime, the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 could be a great way of reducing your kit down as it would do a similar job to your two long zoom lenses. It just depends if the reach is long enough for all of your needs. I recently did a review of the 75mm lens so be sure to check it out!

      Thanks Maggie and for the subscribe too! There is only one version of this lens but the dramatic price differences will be down to whether it's being sold from legitimately by a shop from your own country or through the grey market (usually China). Buying through the grey market can result in much cheaper prices but there are sometimes risks concerning warranties, and you may still have to pay the tax on import.

    Hi Ben, just found your channel and great videos by the way very well presented too. Was looking for stuff wedding related for the GH5 as I have been shooting weddings (2 yrs) on the Sony A7sii & A7iii but after it over heated the last time (in 1080p!!!) and shut off during the vows I said enough is enough! So looking at the GH5 but obviously worried about the low light issue, so maybe a GH5 and a GH5s? The 35-100mm you reviewed you mention it's ok in normal setting lightwise, how have you gone on with it when it's really dark, say in a dark Church or reception? Do you take a light, if so which one are you using? Thanks Ben for your help and keep up the good work! Julian Voigt

      Hey Julian! Thanks so much for your kind words :) The channel has been quiet for the past 8 months but I'm fired up and ready to produce lots of new videos soon. What type of stuff would you find useful? Glad you've switched over from the dark side ;). You must have been petrified when your Sony shut down during the vows! I've heard problems of overheating but why do these things always happen at the worst possible time?! I just checked your channel and saw you've now bought the GH5 and GH5S. It's a great combo! How are you finding them? Your films look really nice.

      @@CameraGeeks Hey Ben nice to hear from you! Yeah so far loving the GH5 & GH5s; only shot 2 weddings with them so early days but so far I think they are great. I have been shooting weddings just 2 years last month so still getting my name out there but doing well have booked up (almost) 2020 and now taking bookings for 2021. Any stuff about what you have found useful with the GH5 would also be of interest mate as still getting used to these cameras. I shoot on the Cine D profile and use a LUT to grade it. Like the colours you get from the GH5 very Canon like in in my opinion, Sony colours were always a bit of a challenge.

      @@CameraGeeks Yeah I guess. Lol. For instance the 35-100 you recommend is a 2.8, but as I understand it it will actually be 5.6 on the GH5. If that's the case I'd lose the DOF I'd be able to get with a true 2.8 (Like a Canon 70-200 2.8)

    How does the 42.5mm f1.7 version compare to the f1.2? Apart from less light, how is the image quality and sharpness?

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому +1

      The 1.7 is a great lens with really nice bokeh, especially when you're starting out. It's perfectly usable for wedding videos and captures beautiful results. However, if you are getting consistent bookings and want to take things to the next level, the 1.2 will produce astonishing results that look really 'glossy' and high-end.

    Hi! Have you tried the 12-35 f2.8 before? And what is your experience with dual IS? Does it fight panning/tilting movements?

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому

      Hi Mark. Yes, I own that lens but don't use it much. It's a lovely lens but I tend to stick with prime lenses instead these days. It's fine for most of the wedding day but can struggle in low light. However, stick it on a GH5S and it works a treat. The dual IS is great for most uses but would fight with pans and tilts when using a tripod. Worked great on a gimbal though. Hi Ben, nice video. I had a question.
    So, I'm on a budget, but I have a wedding coming up, and I will be the only shooter. I currently own the GH5 and the Sigma 18-35. Do you have any tips for me if I were to only use that setup?
    I am considering purchasing the Leica 15mm 1.7 to use alongside, and if I did that, what then would be your advice? Thanks in advance.

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  3 роки тому

      Hi Shred Studios. The Sigma 18-35mm is a fantastic lens for weddings! I actually used it myself for a few weddings during the pandemic. I think you could keep this lens on your camera for the whole day pretty much. You'll just need to keep fairly close to the action during the ceremony and speeches. I'd recommend using the Ex-Tele photo function to crop in to the shot and get that extra reach when you need it. You can find out how to set it up in my GH5 setting video here...ua-cam.com/video/u9CUV8NuC8k/v-deo.html. If you are using a second camera for the ceremony and speeches, the 15mm lens will be perfect for capturing a continuous "safety" shot from the back of the room! The next lens on your list should be a longer focal length, such as the Lumix 35-100mm or the Olympus 75mm. That will help at weddings where you are forced to film from further away. Hope that helps! Ben

      Hi Sane. It costs a fortune but the results are the best you can get on micro four thirds. If you've seen it for 800 euros, it's probably a grey import which will come directly from Hong Kong. Only the Olympus 45mm Pro appears to produce a similar level of results but that lens isn't stabilised.

I am also happy to use ex tele conversion to get that extra reach when needed

    • @CameraGeeks
      @CameraGeeks  4 роки тому

      That's a tough one! My initial thoughts were go with the Nocticron because the results are the best you will find on micro four thirds! However, coming from such a versatile zoom lens, the change in shooting style might seem a big jump. I think I'd get the 35-100, which is the cheaper of the two, and if you could stretch the budget a little, get the Panasonic 42.5 F1.7 (listed in the description area) or the Olympus 45 f1.8 as well. You'll have a zoom lens that performs much better in low light as well as a brilliant prime for getting cinematic shots. If you enjoy using the prime, you could always sell it and upgrade to the Nocticron at a later point in time if you wanted. Hope that helps :)
