When I realised my business would collapse and my new BMW 7 series would get minimal use, I figured it would be worth shooting a video showing how good it is at munching miles, one of the most comfortable cars in the world and one of the frugal engines on this planet! My original plan was to drive from London to Barcelona on one tank, I had to change that plan due to Euro travel restrictions, hope you enjoy what I put together!

52.7 mpg is 5.36 L/100 km which is really impressive for a 3 L engine. But that 78 L of diesel turned into 5.36 * 26.27 * 1450 = 204.17 KG of CO2 (140.87 gr CO2/km * 1450 km) or 103.27 cubic meters of pure CO2 (the carbon from the fuel is mixed with oxygen from the atmosphere so the weight of the CO2 is far greater than the weight of the fuel). A Taycan would have needed double the time to travel the same distance, but wouldn't have emitted 204 KG of CO2. Thank you for your effort in making this video.

Excellent video, I love long distance driving . Finding so relaxing and it is an excellent opportunity to enjoy your own company and clear your head. I drive from Leicester to Silistra, Bulgaria every summer when I go to see my family in my old, but excellent Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI. It has a stage 1 ECU tune and it pushes 315 bhp and 720 Nm torque, but I don't think this has much effect on a journey so long. I only managed 830 miles, but only because I chickened out. The tank is 80L , but the speed I was doing was 80mph instead of the 70mph in the UK, as well as it was a lot warmer +23/25C when I travel, so that would improve the MPG a bit. But you are absolutely on the money when you said how amazing modern day cars are , they have some good performance and excellent efficiency. I loved the video immensely and it must have been a mega effort to edit. PS thank God for red bull , when I do the yearly trip abroad I always have a good 5-6 cans chilling in the glovebox . As a suggestion, you should do some collaboration videos with the guy from tyrereviews, both of you do excellent videos full of useful information that could benefit loads of people.

Give the G31 5 Series 520/530d a go at beating this
Last year after picking up our new G31 520d xDrive Touring with the new MHd (Electric Diesel as they call it...) variant we took a huge trip up North to Inverness. This was around an 800 mile round trip for us and that’s not including extra driving once we got up there to go site seeing...
We filled up a full tank of regular diesel and we set off to spend 5 days up there...and what can I say the journey was a breeze and the fuel efficiency was incredible! We managed to do just over 1000 miles on a single tank!!
Once we got to inverness we probably did another 200miles for site seeing and going up to Dunrobin Castle whilst we was there but also visiting Loch Eilein and stopping in Aviemore on the way home (Cairngorms is a must see)
Anyways we managed to travel all that way on a single tank in a barley broken in new 520d xDrive, I had a feeling it could do it but I was blown away when I manage to pull back up on my drive and still have 60 miles left in the tank
It would interesting to see how the 530d would compare to this...

Always try and avoid running a Diesel until it is empty, the injectors operate at a very high pressure with elevated temperatures and rely on the fuel to cool and lubricate them.

I went for carbon black so blue in some light and black leather interior. I love this car and every time I get in it I feel special, it’s rapid enough and fantastic on fuel 60 mpg on a run. I drive mine always in sport mode and lately have been putting the traction in sport mode also as this seems to give me a little slip and an e boost on full acceleration that I don’t get in just sport mode.

Length of the car doesn't matter for fuel economy. Frontal area (width / height) and aerodynamics makes the difference! I once drove 800 miles in a round trip in a Peugeot 306 without cruise control on a full tank... 55 Litres of fuel over 15 hours of driving non-stop from Leeds to Falmouth (brief 1/2hr stop to pick up a "package"). My ankle was feeling it the next day though!
