I m a powerlifter... Yes 180 kg it is not a huge number (compared to his bw and his snatch/clean&jerk) BUT he did it literally with 0 leg drive (which can give you 10-15%boost), WITHOUT proper shoulder blade retraction, WITHOUT an arch... So yeah, that was absolutely impressive.. With 1 year of specific bench training he would 100% bench more than his c%j

So far, all the Lasha's records that we've seen, look like sub-maximal lifts for him. Like he never shows what he's truly capable of. I think that the coming Olympics are the best time for him to show his full abilities to the world and to himself. I think he could easily open the snatch with 215 kg, after an appropriate warm-up. That can probably guarantee him 1st place in the snatch and he'll be left with 2 attempts. I think he can do his 2nd snatch with 223 kg, and in case he's not successful he can try again. In case he is successful, since that will be a world record already and he has nothing to loose, I think he could try with 230. Then, I think he can open the c&j with 255 kg - easy weight, which once again will probably earn him the 1st place. Then he can go to 265, which will be an amazing world record. Again, if his miss it the first time, he can try again. If he gets that, I think he could try 271. This way, with 223/265, he'll already get an superb all time total official record of 488 kg. But there is also the chance that he can succeed to hit 230/271 for an incredible 501 kg total and put his name forever as the greatest legend in this sport. Or he can get something in the middle, like 223/271 or 230/265. There is my perfect plan for Lasha! :D

That a really good bench all things considered. Weightlifters tend to have strong benches but an estimated 1RM of 500lbs for a guy that doesn't specialize for it is impressive. He could definitely build to a 600lbs+ bench later in life if he decides to go for it.

I attempting to learn the clean and jerk, and it is very ego-swallowing. At the age of 47 and weight of 195, I can bench clost to 400lbs, but I can't get 225 over my head with proper form. I can watch this for hours. I cannot believe that it took me so long in life to find this. If I could go back and do it all over, I might be doing a different sport now.

Detailed breakdown from a power lifter + points that others haven’t mentioned
    1, he self unracks
You can never keep proper tension in your back/shoulders if you unrack the bar by yourself, why all powerlifters when doing max lifts get a lift off by someone else
2, his form is more for hypertrophy then max weights, no back arch, elbows not tucked in
    3, they’re using a weightlifting barbell
You don’t need that much spin on a barbell when doing a bench press, powerlifting bars, especially with that much weight it makes the lift harder
Also a weightlifting barbell is 28mm diameter vs a 29mm powerlifting bar
Doesn’t sound like a lot but that 1mm allows you to press more
If he had the right barbell , form etc , he would definitely be pushing 250 kg plus in a short time
but benching more impedes shoulder mobility so maybe once he’s broken all weightlifting records he can switch in his late 30s

  • @japphan
    @japphan 3 роки тому +1

It is hard to see how much wider Lasha could place his hands within legal powerlifting standards, and he is obviously mainly using his triceps in this lift. Also, his technique is good for building strength, which obviously is his goal, but it is far from optimal for maxing your bench.
    - His glutes and hamstrings look fully relaxed.
    - His shoulderblades are not tight into his body (which is recommended for shoulder health, but not necessairy when benching this narrow.) This means he can't fully activate his chest and lats.
    - The angle he is pressing in is far from the most powerful.
A competent coach would increase his max (which we don't know) by at least 10% (probably significantly more) within 3 or 4 weeks, and by much more if he kept training.

For just benching on the side and mostly using his shoulder/triceps strength, I'd say his bench is pretty good. I guess if he would stay in a low rep range and go for his 1 rep max, it would be somewhere around 220-230 kilo.
Far more interesting for me is how much he could strict press. Judging by this video and how he threw that 150 kg muscle snatch around, I guess at least somewhere between a 160-170 kg.

I believe his best in competition form is about 243kg (at 90kg competition weight). That's CRAZY. Even more crazy is that under competition form you have to come to a complete stop at the bottom and remain their until you are given the green light.

These bench numbers are really good for someone who never benches. I'm sure Lasha can produce more force and can easily push beyond 200 kg. There are many powerlifters who has been powerlifting for years and have yet to PR a 200 kg bench press.

  • @augustinevenero2780

I'd say 180kg for 3 is pretty good with his close grip and completely flat back, for a weightlifter. If we were to go by powerlifting competition standards, and used the same equipment, it might be a little lower initially when using a powerlifting stiff bar and steel kilo plates. He's got some long arms so he can afford to move his grip to max width and it still would look like a normal bench versus the ultra wide super arching bench you might see from smaller people. Whether he could bench as much as he clean & jerks in time, remains to be seen. I think it is possible in a few years. Theres individuals benching 500-550+ who weight much less than Lasha, and the superheavies can bench 600+, with a handful of of 700+

    Powerlifter here
Lashas bench isn't what I would expect, someone his size and strength I'd expect to see 250kg+, the world record holder Julius Maddox is close to benching 800lbs/whatever that is in KG around 360kg
But Lasha is using 0 leg drive, his back doesn't look arched and could grip a little wider.
The bench itself is also a factor, competition spec benches are wider so they will support the lifter more, they also offer more grip so that when you apply leg drive you don't go shooting off the bench.
If Lasha ever wanted to switch over to powerlifting I'm sure he could work upto a 250-300kg bench. I haven't seen his squat and deadlift numbers but I bet they're both around the 400kg mark

Regarding Lasha's bench, judging from his 180 sets I'd say his max would be around 205-210ish, not 220. Wether that's good or not is relative. It's a huge number, more than most will achieve, but given his size it's far from elite. That doesn't take into account how much focus Lasha has on his bench, which compared to powerlifters is probably not a lot. Overall I'd call his bench fairly good, but not amazing.

Bench is no where near elite, but still decently strong for a weightlifter

In high school the cool kids said that a real man should benchpress at least his bodyweight. So I guess Lasha is officially a man now

compared to Seim, Lasha's bench isn't super impressive but Lasha obliterates Seim at WL. I'm sure Lasha would bench 272+ if he trained bench regularly-if not more.

Better check @shturi instagram, an unbelievable 16yo bulgarian kid in the 81 category with 170(175 with straps)/210 PR'S. I think he got 207 C&J on his insta. Great video as always !

180kg is pretty low for hes weight. IPF 83kg powerlifters bench round 190

Judging by Lasha's180kg bench I doubt a 220kg 1RM would be possible (right now) I compete in British powerlifting and typically someone with a 180kg bench x6-8 reps would be at the 220-225kg range imo, I would guess 200kg would be a much more realistic 1RM but who cares he is the GOAT 500kg #ibelieve

    • @NONO-hz4vo
      @NONO-hz4vo 3 роки тому

I think he could probably get to 220kg if he changed up his technique. So many things about his lift are far from ideal if going for a 1RM.

@@NONO-hz4vo Yh but I was judging his current lifting on his current technique, no doubt he would have the ability to do 220kg im just judging off this one video
