What do you think of small children getting bunnies? Comment below!

    • @xHannahx29

I think it’s a terrible idea, even if the child can be trusted they will probably grow out of the bunny and want a dog or something, and the bunny will just get dumped
Edit: it’s only a good idea if they are willing to take care of a bunny

I think there should be a certain age for a kid to own a rabbit and I think it’s from high school age, but I think that children will mistreat that rabbit and ignore it and not feed it water because they’re busy doing kids stuff and not taking care of the rabbit I personally think that we should go to her page and talk to her about rescues and do more research as a bunny owners. We should reach out and talk to Savannah about it and try to help and educate them on how to own a bunny and rabbits and what to do and not what to do.

Fr! There needs to be an App where you can have a bunny come over for a few hours for a decent price, and with it's owner supervising. Like a visit/play date. It'd stop a lot of parents from buying their kids bunnies for Easter and the bunny being neglected within 2 or 3 months. Just spit balling here.

They also didn’t keep the animal very long like with their dog Carl a white Pomeranian they claim that he ran away. I’m not sure if he actually ran away or if they let him loose, but they didn’t find him. I hope wherever he is, he has a loving home in the pen they had those bunnies in was too small some rabbits and small spaces and the next thing I worry about is those rabbits are the same gender they need to be fixed so there’s no fight between them and if they’re not the same gender and they’re a boy and a girl in there they have baby bunnies so that’s another reason why they need to be fixed

According to Discovery News, since ancient times, eggs and rabbits have been a symbol of fertility, while spring has been a symbol of rebirth. So, even though rabbits don't lay eggs, the association of these symbols was almost natural. So its basically, humans are supposed to be honor fertility, not bunnies. Also, it's a pagan holiday.

My bun was a dumped Easter bunny. I always give her a lot of treats to find on Easter to make up for them dumping her. She was at the shelter nearly 2 years before I adopted her, which was nearly her whole life at that time. She has such a great personality, and she's an excellent companion. I feel lucky to have her, but that other family really missed out. That's why I feel all the more upset about people getting bunnies for Easter. You want an Easter bunny? Buy a plushie.

Me to! I am 10 and I have a bunny named Muffin, Right now he is in a 4 x 2 Nic grid cage pen thingy it’s a big 2 story cage that dose have Nic grids on the top because my cat used to have access to my bunny but she doesn’t anymore but when she did I didn’t want her to be able to touch him, I wanted a ex pen but it just didn’t work for my living situation, anyways he is gonna be free roamed in my room once he is fully litter trained, and personally, I think I am a good bunmom, he always has alfalfa hay (as he is under 6 months), he gets 1/4 cup of young rabbit oxbow pellets every morning and half of a oxbow vitamin C tab, he only gets ONE Full oxbow Small rewards treat a day, I typically will break those into smaller pieces so I can use them more wisely then just giving the full treat, he gets a good amount of free roam time in my bedroom I’m not sure about the exact amount cuz it differs from day to day, he has 2 available hides in his cage but he prefers just a hidden corner, he also has a available hide in my bedroom for when he is hopping around, I clean his litter box either every other day or every day I’m still figuring out what routine works for us, and he has many available chews, sometimes I make some for him, but I also but I also buy some, he is a little skittish but once he gets to know you he opens up more,so really, I think it depends about the age, and how serious the child is about the rabbit, like are they gonna take their time to clean the rabbits space, or clean the litter box, or litter train them, or even just provide daily social interaction with the bunny without terrifying it, thanks for reading! Have a great Rest of your Day and Stay Hoppy!

This story is sickening. I absolutely hate the way rabbits are treated around Easter. Rabbits are intelligent animals with needs and feelings, not a cute toy to buy your kid who isn't even old enough to understand how to respect an animal's boundaries. Ugh, I hate people so much sometimes...
I do have to split with Lorelei on entirely ignoring Easter in regards to rabbits. I've had rabbits for around 13 years and I love them so much. I like to spoil them a bit on Easter to kind of celebrate that they're here with me living a good life. I wish all bunnies were given a chance at the kind of life my bunnies or Lennon or Cinnabun live...

By now, the bunny is almost 4 years old and happily hops in our living room. We all wish there could at least another 4 years for her to be with us. Little kids can understand and follow rules. And yes, I repeated soooo many times. Btw I consider that's also a good lesson for kids: true love comes with respect and understanding.

Parents are better to be on top and be the main care givers. Children can learn but they need to have right and enough information provided to them from parents.

    You are so gracious.
What's really sad, is the more information is available to us on so many forums, that we as a society asked for and created, the less people listen to or read the information that is out there to help them make genuine and sound decisions. Especially when it comes
to having a rabbit join the family. I hope they hear you and others and do their research for the sake of these bunnies who's fate is sadly unknown right now. There is so much good information on rabbit care and responsible adoption that it is unacceptable for anyone to just wake up one day and say hey I think I'll get a bunny and if it doesn't work out, meh, I'll get rid of it. I have adopted bunnies for 26 years now. I have had a total of 6 now (down to 1 as of the passing of my 10 1/2 year old in October). But every one has taught me so much. They're all different. I've had 2 single bunnies. I had a trio where I went to adopt one but he had two brothers and I didn't have the heart to separate them. They've all passed and the oldest was 13. They had semi annual vet visits. I took care of them when their back legs no longer worked. One went blind but he adapted so well and still ran through the house and came out to the living room for his evening pets. Bunnies require commitment. Humans are so dedicated to their own self care (well most) and we all need to extend that care to our furbabies. Forever.
Thank you for allowing me the long comment. Cheers and love to all the amazing bunny moms and dads. ❤

It’s obvious they have not done this. Savanna would have to be living under a rock to not know this these days. Shameful. Maybe with enough pressure from social media they’ll straighten up. I purchased the hop litter box and have been using it for about three weeks and it has literally changed my life! It makes for such a quick cleanup and resupply. I take the top off, put a garbage liner on the pan then a paper bag or a newspaper, and then the lavender bedding from a small pet select. I only have to put it really on the 3/4 of the pan because the hay part takes up the other side. Also, I have found that one of my rabbits likes to jump on top of the litter box and eat the hay from the top! I have three bunnies free roam so They can literally all three be eating hay at the same time two in the litter box and one on top. It’s harmonious!!! My only suggestion would be that the panel on the top that pops off for access clip in a little tighter. Especially because my one von likes to jump up on there it’s not as a secure fit as I think it could be, other than that, it’s been an absolute dream! I can’t believe I spent that much on a litter box and having had it now I can’t believe I wouldn’t.

I have been a bunny owner for 7 years now and my family got our first bunny when i was 4 years old and my sister was 2 and we had a dog at the time. My mom was a experienced pet owner and my dog and rabbit got along really well and me and my sister were very gentle with the bunny. Overall i just think that you can get a bunny with young kids as long as they are gentle you do your research and can educate your kids on how to care for them and you know you can commit to it for 10+ years

I just want to add a comment on this topic of buy or adopt. Now I’m not talking about this family, but in general. Adoption of course is the better choice, but that thing is about buying is that adoption can be really hard. It of course takes time to adopt, but some people who rent houses might face a struggle with the requirement by the certain adoption center. Which could give a struggle with getting landlords involved and all that. But at the end of the day, if adoption can be done , then do it. That action will truly support the bunny world. Have a great day!

I got my bunny from a neighbor who had 8 bunnies and had to move to a small camper. Hunny Bunny was around 2 years old and was allowed to run around and chew on furniture and baseboards and I kept her in a cage at first because she was scared. As we developed a relationship I was able to potty pad train her and give her a variety of healthy food and treats and all is well. I am 71yo and I have had her for 3 years now. I would NOT recommend that young children have a rabbit as a pet.
    1. They're a lot of work.
    2. They require a regular routine and
    3. They're fragile animals ❤ I love my baby so much and she is a very good companion for me. She doesn't bark and I don't have to take her for walks or let her outside to go potty. ❤😊❤

@Lenonthebunny Help me stress the need for advocating for not breeding your bunnies. This story is sad but probability a reality more often than we think. We got a 1 year old bunny less than 2 weeks ago, as she was being rehomed (but came from a pet store). A week in our care, she gave birth and we had no idea she was pregnant. She had 6 babies and the last one passed away today. The mom seemed inexperienced and no matter how hard we tried, we lost them all. This could have been avoided if people knew what they were getting into. I am so sad and pissed off.

I had started to want a bunny when I was 10 and researched a bunch of different foods they can eat, how much space different breeds need, materials needed, and different breeds themselves before finally getting her. So I think it depends on maturity level and responsibility rather than age really

A lot of people underestimate just how much work goes into owning and caring for a pet ANY PET, whether it’s a cat, a dog, a bunny, a fish, a turtle.
It’s a major financial commitment first of all and not many people are willing to do that to maintain their pet’s health. I get it Vets are expensive especially if you don’t have insurance, but when you adopt an animal you have to do everything. I mean my baby boy my fluffy kitty Bigfoot was diagnosed with early onset kidney disease. I spend now every two months over 700 dollars in bills for his new prescription diet wet and dry, his prescribed pills, and his monthly wellness check blood work and urine tests to monitor his condition. So many people have told me that they wouldn’t have even bothered because of how much money it is. They’d let their cat die or surrender it to a shelter. I mean!!! Seriously, you adopt an animal you are responsible for it. It’s not just feeding it or petting it every once in a while or buying it one toy or taking it to the vet maybe once or twice it’s whole life, it’s so much more.
My own family thinks all I’m doing for my cat is ridiculous as “it’s just a cat” well he’s not just a cat, he’s a creature I took on the responsibility to care for. His condition was diagnosed and discovered early so he has a chance to live comfortably for years if I am willing to put in the physical and financial effort into helping him. I cant let him just waste away!
Side note: I personally don’t believe in getting a child a pet if they’re too young. Like middle school age when they can start taking care of it with your help (maybe not financially) but helping walk or clean up after it or bathing the pet if applicable not just playing or feeding but the hard stuff too, and it won’t just be a thing to play with or love but then dump for the next best thing as that’s what children do when they’re at a young age. There is so much research as to what pets also are appropriate for certain age groups.

I have been a subscriber of yours for years, I am from Russia. Here, the bunny situation is much worse, despite a great growing bunny community. Unfortunately there will always be either oblivious idiots or people who are literally arent able to feel sympathy for animals. This is either comes from high ignorance and self sense of importance or/and lack of education on behalf of animal world and pet care. What you do is incredibly important, i believe your reviews are what is helping solving part of the problem. However there always be people like this and I grew to accept that. This is why we globally need pet laws to help. Educational videos, books and on and on made by our loving comunity. Frankly I am nobody, but I am thinking of making a cartoon or book about bunnies for russian audience. At least when I ll feel ready because my bunny unfortunately passed away last spring from dental problems. I was also away, and not with her, so I felt like a biggest failure as an owner. Back then I also learned that pet graveyards are forbidden in russia. It's literally illegal. I mean i know the country is inhuman but they keep finding ways to surprise me.

The one thing I’m at least thankful for is that for the last 2 years, not just shelters, but even breeders around my area and a few others around Uk stop selling bunnies for around 2-3 weeks around Easter time and even Christmas time and put up signs and notifications that they will not be selling any bunnies around these time to reduce the amount of people who buy them just to dump them not long afterwards. Even all the local pet shops around me and others also don’t have rabbits to sell around these times and put up a notice that they do not encourage people just to buy them for their kids and how they are more than just cute animals but living creatures who deserve love, respect lots of care and they are a long terms commitment ❤
Though I personally still don’t support breeders and pet shops, I’m still at least grateful that there are more and more of them not selling their bunnies around Easter and Christmas time, though there is definitely much more they can improve on, I’m at least thankful that they are making some improvements xx

When I had my first bunny, Tenacious B, ended up between apartments and had to stay with a friend whose cat was not small animal friendly for a month. Another friend told me her 9-year-old daughter had been begging for a bunny, and offered to keep him for me until I moved and to test her daughter's actual interest. Well, she had completely lost interest after a couple of days, and her older brother (he was 12) took care of B (he did a great job!). I also witnessed her poking at him through the pen bars, which she kept doing no matter how many times I told her to stop. B got more and more agitated and finally ended up lunging and snapping at her - the only time in the 9 years I had him that he EVER did such a thing, he was the sweetest bunny you could meet and LOVED people. So... I am very, very against young kids having bunnies. They don't have the maturity level or impulse control.

We had a cat (stray kitten that we fed and eventually took in) and we thought it was a girl for the first few months too lol. Its usually not too difficult to tell with cats but he had cryptorchidism so his testicles never descended. Was also a kitten when we found him. Eventually when we decided "ok i guess this is our cat now" we took him to the vet to get his shots they told us it was a boy, but we'd already been feeding him and referring to him as a girl for like 2 months lol. At least we had given him a gender neutral name to begin with so we didnt change it (his name was "Riley"... the only funny part was as a nickname before we found out my mom used to call him "Girlfriend" ... such as like when going to feed him she's say "Alright Girlfriend, come get your food" lmao... so we used to laugh about that and was a bit of an inside joke where we would continue jokingly calling him that even after we knew 'she' was a HE.

I have a cat that I thought was a girl at first, too! I think he was abandoned because one night he just showed up, scarfing down food as if he hadn’t eaten in days, and he probably hadn’t. 😢 Anyway, the only name the cat answered to was Tabby, so we had no idea he was a boy until he went to the vet to be fixed… he had an undescended testicle, so it had to be removed through a more invasive surgery. Because he still would only answer to “Tabby” but I had the vet register his official name as Sir Tabby, so everyone would know he’s a boy!

@@sashaconrad3939 Aww yea our stray that we took in was SooooOOoo skinny and scrawny when we found him. He was probably around 5-6 months old (based on his growth after we found him- he didnt look like a baby kitten but then he continued to grow even after he was fed back up to a normal weight so he was definitely within a kitten growing period. We had a vacation home up in the mountains and he must have been living under the porch at that house. we used to go up every weekend in the summertime but we hadnt been in a while, we were opening the house back up for the summer season. so we had just arrived, put our bags down and went onto the back porch to take in the scenery and started hearing sounds under the deck. thought it was a raccoon or something at first but then this scrawny little kitten came tiptoeing out around the deck post and up the stairs. Skin and bones but he must have been dumped by humans not born stray because he was very friendly and trusting. he came right up to us and i got him some cat food or tuna (i forget which, we had another cat that we'd had for many years already so we did usually have cat food on hand) and yea mixed it with water so he'd have something to drink and he gobbled up the whole thing. We didnt want to let him in at first because we had my OG cat who kind of hated other kitties but we had a HUGE wraparound farmhouse porch so we started feeding him for a couple months that summer and he just never left- he'd go to sleep on the porch chairs and if it was rainy out we would bring him into the finished basement (my bros bedrooms were down there so he wasnt alone, hed chill with them, we just didnt want to piss off our OG kitty ..eventually they got used to eachother a little bit- Tippy the og kitty never really liked him and we kind of always managed their spaces, they never were really hanging out in the same area lol, luckily it was a big house. ) thats how the summer went and then yea we found out he was a boy eventually (he had the same thing as your Sir Tabby- the undescended testicles except BOTH of his never descended thats why it we confused his gender and yea he had to do the more invasive surgery as well to be fixed) so by the end of the summer we took him to the vet to do that cause we were like well i guess he's our cat now since nobody ever claimed him (in fact neighbors thought he was still a stray and had him picked up by animal control- we had to go bail him out from humane society at one point when he went missing! we were so worried and went asking around and turned out our neighbors thought he was a stray.. which he kind of was lol but we'd been feeding him for months at that point but he was still outside a lot so they were seeing him around i guess and didnt realize he was being fed and cared for) so yea after we bailed him out of kitty jail lol, he was officially ours (we had to PAY to get him back so... really officially lol) and had to let him come inside cause it was going to get cold coming into fall and winter. He was actually one of the sweetest cats ive ever had. His personality reminds me a bit of the cat I have now (my OG cat Tippy the one who hated other cats passed away in 2016 at 21 yrs old, sadly Riley did not get to live a long life though, he passed away around 2 yrs old, he got his head stuck in his favorite porch chair... freak crazy accident not even sure how it happened but we found him under the chair either strangled himself or broke his neck :( there was a leaf under the chair we think he chased it under there and got stuck ;( I still feel terrible thinking of it cause his body was still warm when i found him. I think if i had been 10 minutes earlier getting home I could have prevented it... or just known how dangerous that chair was that that was even possible i would have thrown it out !

I'm pretty sure it's a given that these precious bunnies will be given away once the novelty wears off. I just pray that they don't get injured or worse in the interim. Rabbits and guinea pigs, along with many of the other small rodents such as hamsters and rats and mice, are some of the most abused animals in the world. They are the most helpless of animals, and yet they are brought into homes where children and often times adult mistreat them horribly. You could already see on the video that these children are treating these bunnies as toys. Allowing them to free roam outside is just frightening. Although I believe it will fall on deaf ears, I thank Lorelei for making this video and bringing attention to the fate of many of these "Easter Bunnies".

That would be a great video maybe a collaboration - will benefit both of your channels and most of all for the good of the bunnies- a video of you meeting up with labrants and helping them create an awesome bunny habitat for their new furbabys. I think its always best not to pre-judge and to offer help and resources. Most people DO love their animals and DO want to to whats best for them, just might not know that they are missing information on how to provide better care and people can become defensive when they feel judged, especially on sensitive topics like this- it becomes sensitive because people DONT want to feel like they are hurting their animal or not giving them what they need. Offering help without judgement is the way to go . I would love to see it if you guys ever do meet up and do a video.
