Before I start replying to individual comments, I just want to say:
    WOW
I have been completely blown away by your kind messages! While I was filming this I didn't even know if I would upload it. And while I was editing it, I thought 'people really aren't going to like this'!
I was scared to read comments last night after I posted it, but reading through them now I am completely surprised. Thank you so much for your support through the years, you have no idea how much it means to me.
And you've completely proven my point about this incredible positive community that we have created in our little space online. Thank you x

      Hi Niomi,
I’ve been watching some webinars about the future of influencers, and WGSN and Glamour both said that the meaningful work that you are doing, is on the right path!
The future is people wanting to see less inspirational post and more purpose on what influencers are doing.
I wish I could share the links with you, but it’s all in Portuguese, but for sure, WGSN might have content about this in English too! Go check their content on instagram, youtube or their website!
Keep doing what is true to yorself, I really admire you for that!

You might not read this since it's an older video, but I wanted to share that it is SO CLEAR to me the motivations and intent behind an individual's reason to post. Selling vs inspiring, sharing vs preaching, so forth. There's an effortless quality to how you share your life because you are doing it from an organic, authentic place. I don't think you're trying to dupe anyone or represent a product that you don't believe in. It's hard to explain how much of a massive difference there is, and I can only sympathize with the tireless conversations you must get into with people who do not understand or consume the types of content you are referring. But there is a difference and (I know you know) your community is aware of it too. Keep on keepin on because you're a special bird who we completely side with and support in this messy, chaotic, but really unique and sometimes wonderful digital world.

You’re the only UA-camr that over the years that I still regularly watch, you’re very genuine and show how to make positive changes without being preachy. I’ve enjoyed the direction your channel has taken. Even though you're obviously privileged you don’t try to flash it about and you aren’t garish with it, you use that privilege for good. It’s refreshing to watch

I very rarely comment but there's a reason why I still follow you even though you don't have the most certain schedule or the most consistent intro or all those things that come with the new-age influencers. You're genuine. You have some purpose that's more than just the superficial. I see that. I'm aligned to that. I love it. I won't be dropping my support for you anytime soon. If anything, it's only grown and I think it will continue to grow.

Your place is right here with us!! To me, you are NOT an "influencer" but rather an "INSPIRATION" (can we coin the word "inspirer"?). YOU are the only youtube person who has inspired me to change my life for the better, while entertaining me, feeding my love of travel and, yes, romance! I have unsubscribed to many channels, where trying to "influence" me to buy things has become the clear focus. I have learned SO much from you, LOVE where your channel has been and continues to go and I thank you for every video you have made. Not a word of a lie when I say that my life is BETTER because of YOUR inspiration. Please stay exactly as you are!

Niomi, I’m so so proud of you. I stumbled on your account years and years ago-back when you first moved to your own flat in London and became independent. I can truly say that you’ve stayed true to yourself throughout the years and it’s been so fun to see you grow and evolve more. I’m happy that you have turned down things and only share true products that you swear by. And also, I would say you’re an influencer, but not in a bad way. You influence your audience to be more eco-friendly, more educated about a sustainable lifestyle, and more educated on a healthier living. Being an influencer doesn’t have to be a negative thing-I know you’re doing it in such an amazing way. Anyway, much love from a loyal American fan.

One thing I really don't like with influencers in general is when all of them start advertising the same thing at the same time. You know that this means that the brand did a 'blanket' outreach to influencers, and then the influencers are featuring the product without having used it before or actually being able to speak to how good the product is after one use. I also don't know that I've seen many influencers who have been sent something to review and have actually said 'tbh I don't like it'. So because everyone says 'i'm giving my honest review' and then no one ever seems to say that something is actually not that great, it's questionable as to whether or not you can trust those opinions. I think Niomi has been very true to herself. Anything she recommends is aligned to items/things that she connects with, brands she already loves and supports or a new brand that aligns with her worldview. Honestly refreshing.

I am so on board with your opinion! It quite frustrates me sometimes when I see the same products again and again with influencers still stating their authenticity. Is it really completely authentic jumping on the bandwagon of a brand outreaching many influencers at the same time?

    • @michellewalsh6589

Ashleigh Memarzadeh totally agree but what I think was worse was when ppl released a statement on something controversial and the wording was practically identical. For example, the BLM hashtag with everyone suddenly saying they’re “listening & learning”. This said to me that they were waiting to hear what their management would tell them to say. I don’t think this was true for Naomi but definitely other influencers did and it was cringe-worthy to say the least.

You're incredible Niomi! I used to watch (shamelessly) ALL of the British UA-camrs about 5 or 6 years ago, and now I am so selective but I still watch all your videos! I'm a few weeks behind but I always catch up and find your videos so genuine and so calming. You're really inspiring to me. You have a very peaceful way of communicating with your audience yet are still so captivating and you have nothing to worry about this blanket term of "influencer" if you ever find you fall under it, because you do influence but in the most positive way ever! You influence my mood, my outlook, my diet and activity, my lifestyle, just because I feel like I need to eat live be better ! Not because I feel I need to buy into anything! You are AMAZING and maybe one day I'll get to meet you and tell you how positively you have influenced me in my life :) maybe you can rename it "impacter" because you really do have a positive impact on so so many of your viewers/followers/community ! xxx

I actually think the fact you were one of the 'originals' means you will always have a space in this community as you have proved yourself as credible and trustworthy. I understand your worry of being called an influencer because of the dark cloud that seems to be over the word. But it’s not a bad word. In fact, I see you as such a positive influence in me personally. I think many of us (who watch you) are better people because of the content you create. I think there’s many types of influencers, there are great ones and there are some who should really rethink what they’re putting out in the universe. But to each their own. You’re accountable for yourself, and that’s what counts. Love your content! Would love to see more engagement with your followers on this platform though... lol that’s my last thought. K bye 🤗

I don't see you as someone who influences people, but rather as someone who inspires them. I have always felt inspired by your lifestyle and that's why I kept watching every video you made. The fact that you are selling things just makes sense to me because you make a living out of it. You never sold anything that wasn't coherent with your values, and every partnership shows how much work you put in what you do so really no worries! (sorry if I made mistakes in English btw ;))

I just looked back at your oldest videos and I remember watching them back then...along with Caspar, joe, Markus, Zoe, Alfie, Jim, and Tanya. Crazy! And that was only like 5 or 6 years ago. I think you're right that selling stuff isn't really part of your brand here on UA-cam (unless it's something you've created yourself or a brand that you really love). Well expressed, Niomi!
I see you more as a person who INSPIRERS, rather than an "Influencer". I take certain things from what you offer: Diet, exercise, fashion, skincare, makeup, home decor, etc., and modify them to meet my personal needs according to my budget, medical/physical conditions, allergies, the climate in which I live, etc.
Yes, I have purchased particular items based on what you have shown in your vlogs, as I was able to responsibly, afford those items in my allotted budget. However, the most inspirational content I receive from you is your inner beauty and the way you find peace and tranquillity in the most simplistic joys, which do not cost a thing, by just focusing on what really matters in life, like stopping to appreciate a beautiful field of wildflowers on a fresh spring morning, during your daily run.
With that being said, I personally love your style, whether you are dressing for the city or days in the countryside. It is organic and natural, as well as classic, simple elegance. Niomi, you are true, inspiration!

Whether or not you are selling things aligned with your ethos or not you are still earning a living by selling things as an influencer, that is the definition of one.

I think that on social media there really is a lack of such honest and authentic videos as this. So, please continue with what you're doing! Most of the time, social media just makes me feel bad because the content appears quite meaningless to me and only few people manage to really touch the heart of their viewers. To be honest, I find this superficial and empty world very hard to handle sometimes. In my opinion, 'influencing' shouldn't be viewed and practiced in commercial means but it should be used to create a community and talk about the important things in life. I think this is what you're doing :)

I've never commented before, but I want to say in reply to this video that I really love the ethos and feel of your content, Niomi. It's so natural and authentic, and I always feel like watching them is like having a chat with a friend. I would call your style more autobiographical. It's the reason that I follow you on here and other platforms, rather than the more "hard sell" content creators. However - like the results of conversations with friends - your gentle style has still actually led me to consider what things I might do, for example, I do a lot more yoga, eat more plant-based, and as part of a staycation roadtrip I recently actually booked a couple of nights in Bath based on recommendations in your videos from ages ago! Basically - I think your perspective on the industry and what "good" and positive content creation is absolutely spot on. Keep doing what you are doing!

I was 15/16 when I started watching you and the rest of the Brit crew, those were honestly the golden years of youtube (I’m 21 now) as you said you guys just had fun and it really showed in your videos! Now it’s so annoying thinking you’re watching a vlog then you get a 5 minute chat about the newest thing a lot of influencers are advertising! I only really watch you and Zoe now because you kinda keep your business’s/products separate to your social media so your videos are still authentic! ☺️

Your genuine nature has always made you stand out from all the others. I come to your channel for veganism / workout / wellness inspiration and for your wonderful personality. We have seen you through so many different phases in your life and in a strange way it almost feels like a friendship where you take us along for the journey of your life... and I always get excited to watch a new video of yours for that very reason.

See this is something about you that i love, i see where you are coming from when you express your reviews, i can tell when you're being genuine about a product or whatever. that's why i listen to your input when you talk about an item/product, i've followed you from the beginning of your career and the reason why i trust your input is because i can see that you're not a sellout , i can see that you only share the things or work with companies that have the same morals as you while others on this platform see their followers as ATM machines .

I was just having a conversation with a friend about the (mostly British) influencers in their late 20's early 30's who do such a wonderful job of not being performative but still providing valuable information on life style trends. I love the sensibilities of the "older" influencers and the fact that you've been doing it so long gives you the credibility that a lot of us look for online when searching new clothing brands or trends.

You are still 100% relevant if not MORE so as everyone is waking up to mother earth and how we need to consider her now. You're amazing. Please don't change. You're not a sell out and that is a brilliant thing. You show that it is possible to share your passions, have a career without selling out AND make a difference in the world. Your channel is so refreshing and needed as this platform continues to change!!! I pretty much stopped watching all other British youtubers after 2016, except for you. It felt like since UA-cam was changing, (no shade since it must have been very tough for youtubers with this being their livelihood) everyone was trying to brand themselves in any way they could just so they could remain relevant and secure the bag, but then their relationship with their audience kind of weakened. Over the years, even as you undertook different business ventures, you stayed genuine, honest, and consistently connected with your audience. The fact that you are so particular about the brands you work with says a lot about how much you care. The best thing you could do is stay true to yourself and your interests!

So much respect for you Niomi xxx I want to encourage you that you are more than your career and that you bring something unique that this world is missing - the world needs what YOU have! There IS a cost to integrity and keeping trust with yourself and the community that you've invested in and built, but the reward is far greater than the cost of saying no to things that aren't what you stand for, and I wanna champion you and encourage you to remember that your path is uniquely yours and that you're not meant to look like everyone else that is an 'influencer'. Encouraging you to reclaim and redefine that word in a more positive way, because your career has INFLUENCED people towards social and personal responsibility, health and wholeness; things that are lasting beyond what's trendy and sexy in the culture. You're doing amazing and I personally always leave your content encouraged to better myself, so that i can show up as my best in the world for the sake of health and wholeness that this world desperately needs. The integrity with which you do your work matters deeply and I'm cheering for you throught it all 🧡🌟

If I'm honest, I really don't like the word "influencer," even for positive reasons. I think of you as a healthy lifestyle, plant-based, and fitness expert with an online platform. Kind of a mouthful, but I like that better than influencer. I also agree with what you're saying about influencers primarily trying to sell products, when overconsumption is already an issue. Smart that you are thinking about your life in terms of purpose. So much more meaningful.
I could see you being a professor or teacher or healthy lifestyles...like that amazing Ayurvedic teacher you met in India. You could teach online classes about health, I could see you having a healthy lifestyle program/class that includes sustainability, getting into shape, and also plant-based recipes or guidelines. I don't think there's anything out there like that right now that focuses on more than fitness or "diets."
Or maybe another idea that you will come up with! Your business doesn't have to be like anyone else's. That's what makes it yours. You are very smart and grounded, and you will continue to find your path and evolve.

I couldn’t agree more with what you were saying, a lot of the influencers I used to watch I have stopped watching as like you say it feels like they are just trying to sell products. I would much rather try and better myself as a person and that’s why I watch your videos, I love seeing new ways to help the planet, ourselves and others. Sharing your life online makes you the antithesis of a private person and when you put videos online showing people how to do things, and making recommendations on life and products etc etc inherently means you are influencing people with your views opinions and recommendations. So I think this is like my 3rd comment ever on youtube but I just had to let you know that I actually talked about exactly this not even a week ago with my friend! We both used to watch your videos from the beginning, because we also watched all the other british and american peeps. Over the years (maybe until 2016) I stopped watching everyones videos except yours (and patricia bright). I love how kind and honest and real you are. You maybe 'influence' people to become better and more aware. My friend asked me about sustainable fashion and I directly told her to check out your insta and youtube! I hope you feel better hearing this. You are a great person everyone should look up to and you also probably changed a lot of lifes for the better.
I think people realize how a lot of youtubers are trying to bullshit one into buying stuff they actually don't even believe in or use. But I also believe that these 'influencers' don't feel good about them selves anymore and if they do then there is something seriously wrong with them unfortunatly.
So really there is NO reason at ALL to beat yourself up! You have such a big heart, you are so real and so full of joy. I think your whole audience see's it and that's why we continue to watch your videos. :)
Lots of Love from Germany XXX

I’m so glad to hear you speak about this. I’ve spoken a lot about this with my partner and that it feels like influencers are juste making commercial without really understanding that that is what they are doing. It sometimes feel like they sell their soul without understanding it. They just feel so happy to get attention by a company that they forget that (even if you get products for free) the company gains so much on using you as a commercial stream (because it would cost them a lot more to make a real commercial production than to pay someone for an instagram post) to target their audience (not the influencers). And by that they influence people to buy products they have no experience of or know what the company represents.
And for that I am so grateful to see that you actually reflect on this and make concious choices with collaborations, and that’s all I would care about as a follower❤️. I followed you some years ago and bought your ’eat smart’ and it wasn’t until now that I actually started looking into it and now I saw how beautiful your recepies are and how in line they are with how I want to eat myself. And I went in to see how you are. ❤️

I love your ability to be so open and genuine. You also have such a great mindset of openness to learn and to grow and to focus on being the best version of yourself. You are also so in touch with the rest of the world. It seems often individuals on Instagram or UA-cam forget that some of their struggles in work and industry are also common problems amongst other industries and types of work (I.e., the comparison example, and how each creator will have their own mission/goals which is so similar to any job where everyone has their own goals and “why’s”). When you draw the comparison to your audience and understand that they can relate too in many ways it forges that even stronger bond and trust. Thank you for being so real and down to earth!

I love chats like this - so thought provoking! I work in marketing in the US, and I think so much is tied up in the word “influencer” itself and its connotation - it really does feel dismissive to call someone solely an “influencer,” when in fact your business and brand is so much more robust. That being said, as a brand marketer, we seek digital creators to work with who are aligned with our product and causes, but at the end of the day, it honestly does really all come down to advertising. We try to do it in a very organic, authentic way, but it all does boil down to your brand (personality, content quality, audience) and your connection with our brand. It’s a mutually beneficial partnership. “Influencer” is like a hub, and the types of influencers are the spokes - there are so many ways to do this career (marketing, too!). And it’s so new and foreign that there’s a real credibility issue for anyone working in social media. All of that being said, yes, you are an influencer - but you’re also so much more!
