I’m an American and a navy vet though I love the interviews of our military elite please bring us more from warriors of other nations. Their stories need to be heard as well.
You got to be a real smart cookie to be a doctor and then to pass SAS selection -very impressive, enjoyed the interview, that is a very accomplished man.
Enjoyed both of these videos. It’s amazing to think of a medical doctor as an SASR operator. As a Perth WA midwife/nurse I work with many doctors, and admire how hard you have worked to do both. I didn’t realise that so many Australian Defence personnel were killed or injured.
Dan, thank you for sharing your story. I have very personal relationship PST having been married to 2 Vietnam Combat Vets. We did not have any resources to resolve the psychological damage that invaded every moment of our daily lives. So thankful that Vets now have help. Returning home from a war zone is more traumatic than anyone can comprehend. My husbands (ex’s) have been home nearly 55 years and still suffer all of the effects of PST.
He really looks like the actor Malcolm McDowell. What a fascinating story he has. I'd heard about him when I was with 1st CDO Regt, but never knew what happened to him after he went back to the SASR. He's a bit of a legendary character in the Aussie SF Community.
This is a great episode! Unfortunately, my veteran friends that need to hear this message the most, don't enjoy listening to this type of content. I keep pestering them with the links and just continue to be there for them.
Great interview. Dr Pronk is a legend to be a medico and SAS soldier. Interesting life story from a truly great person. Thanks for sharing. Purchased both books to listen while I train.
I was just thinking that. The Aussies hung with the Dutch in oruzgan province In Afghanistan would be interesting to see there outlook from a European perspective.
Yes, loving the vids. Good suggestion mate. Any of the Euro SF teams who deployed to Afghanistan. France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark (I think they had an SF deployment there).
I unfortunately missed Dr. Pronk’s first interview. I’am a Yank. Really enjoyed hearing his Kiwi accent. I’am so glad he addressed the PTSD issue esp. not letting one’s self get so so far down the “rabbit hole” before getting Psych. help. Glad he mentioned mindfulness, giving it a thumbs up. Thanks Doc. Yeah, you’re way too old to be doing skateboard. Better just watch from a safe distance.
That age old adage that the older you get the more aware of risk you become. Same happened to me in my 20s and 3 tours of Iraq, not arsed at all .wind that forward with a family in your 30s in Afghanistan and your whole out look changes.
Ok... Back... As per 1st episode... awesome.... I got nothing to ad...... Ill leave my previous comment below... and then Im going to find some incense, and give this Mindfulness thing a go...... now I've had a few drinks, and Unfortunately Ryan you failed to ask Dan about Meditation whilst intoxicated.... Hey maybe I can right a book about that..... 😂😂 The best interview ever, cant wait for part 2. ( Just watched ) What a Story. I wont, but if you condensed his life into Dot points, Wow. He wont get the Spotlight like some, but Man pretty damn amazing. Ok I'll do a short version..... Chubby Kid, No Friends, Average student..... becomes a Triathlete certainly of a reasonable standard, Does a Science Degree, Joins the Army, Becomes a Doctor 7 yrs training in total 4 plus 3, passes the SAS selection course ( FYI guys this is the selection course only, Training begins after that ) Does 4 tours of Afghanistan as an MD imbedded in frontline operations as an operator........ So now we await part 2..... I'm emboldened to Make my bed tomorrow morning.
How Bloody Good. Sunday Arvo 14:04 AU.... Nothing to watch.... I check in to Combat Story.... YESSSS.... part 2.... Honey, can you Grab me another beer...... no no sweetness... change of Plans... Need to step it up.... Whisky and Dry thanks.... Ging to watch now... Report back in 1;17:02
Townsville's tuned in bro. Would have loved to hear Dan's thoughts on Australia's under preparedness if Taiwan kicks off. The threat posed by the CCP mimicking the Japanese movements into Papua New Guinea, Soloman Islands, West Papua etc etc.
If the usa navy doesn't stop them it's nukes , remember Korea. It's will be Korea 2 point 0 , millions of soldiers now well armed this time. Fingers crossed Vietnam, Indonesia, India etc will be on our side otherwise start speaking Mandarin my friend
Hi Ryan, loving all the content. Not sure if you’ve had this suggestion previously but Brad Halling would be an incredible guest to try to get on the podcast. His Instagram posts are awesome.
for every one listening to his accent, this is the clean sounding southern Australian accent perhaps the cleanest of all the accents of Australia. The most common is the Eastern state's very strong accent witch are the bigger states.
The geographical difference in accents has shifted from 30 years ago. I think it's mainly urban/country thing now, rather than a SE/rest of the nation thing. I'm from Canberra, and know plenty of ppl from Brisbane now who speak like I do, and quite a few from Perth also. 30 years ago Brisbane folk I knew spoke country. Now I also know ppl from rural towns in NSW and Victoria who speak total country. Adelaide, being an isolated city, has some of the most posh sounding Aussie accents I've heard. Accents are a fascinating thing.
I served in a heavy Infantry corps in Iraq, 2002. After that Mission Accomplished bullshit act that Dubya put on, I left the ADF and have felt nothing but disgust for invading a country based on false intelligence and lies. I threw anything associated with my service in the bin, including campaign ribbons and medals. Thanks for the CPTSD.

I just want to thank all the service members who have sacrificed their time for us.
Thank you.

What a cool guy! This was a really uplifting interview. Good stuff.
We feel the same way when leaving the Fire Department brotherhood, many similarities. Great Podcast Ryan, thank you.
Thank y’all for your Service 💯💯

Again awesome story. Thanks for all both of you did and do
What an amazing interview! Very interesting man. Bought his book. Thanks so much for the video. Cheers from Nova Scotia

Brilliant as always Ryan
It would be awesome if you could get some European SF/SOF guys on, like Norway or Germany since there isn’t much about them on the internet
I was just thinking that. The Aussies hung with the Dutch in oruzgan province In Afghanistan would be interesting to see there outlook from a European perspective.
While it's not Ryan's channel, Team House has one on the Danish Sirius Patrol, and an FSB guy as well.
@@mikkelbugge7299 yes, though the FSB guy was more of an intelligence guy. I’d love to see an FSB Alpha or Vympel guy.

Not Kiwi, Aussie.
Top interview! Loved jt
This one might even be the most useful out of all the interviews i heard so far. Following up with the talk he gave to Avant Mutual.

For all the brothers we lost..... until we regroup!

An amazing human
Legend
I watch every clips.
Small point - Redwings was not Extortion 17. Extortion 17 was 2011 and had double the loss of life.

70k is not the average size of a man. Maybe a short man. A very short man.
I don’t know about the rest of y’all but I just skip over the ones about foreign military stories. Rather hear from a ranger or SF guy.
