  • Hello dear polymer clay enthusiasts!
I'm back with more inspiration for your work with polymer clay. I still haven't finished with the enamel inspiration and this time I chose to work on a faux modern enamel look.
    Material list:
    Navy blue Cernit polymer clay
    Stencils
Chalk pastels (I used bright colors to create a contrast with the navy blue base)
A texture plate (to texture the back of the pieces)
Cutters (I used a round cutter)
    Eyelet screw pins
Triple Thick Glossy Glaze and a brush
A pasta machine and an oven to bake your pieces
    Baby wipes
A short description of the process:
    - I conditioned the polymer clay and I passed it through the pasta machine through the thickest setting (I'm using an Imperia Pasta Machine)
    - I folded the polymer clay sheet to have thicker sheet of polymer clay which would create a nice border for the finished bead
    - I used a texture plate to texture the clay (this is going to be the back of the finished bead)
    - I used a flower stencil to create a pattern on top of the polymer clay (I used the craft knife to shave some chalk pastels on top of the polymer clay).
    - I used a round cutter to cut a round pendant. I softened the edges using my fingers (to avoid sanding the piece after baking).
    - I baked the piece at the temperature recommended by the polymer clay manufacturer for 30 minutes.
    - I applied Triple Thick Glossy Glaze in the middle of the bead and I used a brush to spread it all across the bead. Be very careful to clean any leakages.
P.S. Use warm water and liquid soap to gently clean your stencils.
I hope you'll like my tutorial and I hope that you'll take this inspiration and use it in your work. I did my best to make a shorter tutorial, yet I consider that it has great potential and that it could be an excellent starting point for making such "modern" beads.
    My best to you!
    Mihaela

You can mix the chalk or pigments with liquid clay and use your heat gun on it and get a faux enamel look

The Triple Thick will eventually make your clay all gooey. Use varnish.

Thank you for watching the tutorial and for writing to me! In the present I use mostly UV resin for a beautiful faux enamel or faux glass effect, but at that time I was experimenting with different sealing options:) I still use Diamond glaze as an option when I don't want to use UV resin. I hope you'll enjoy other videos from my channel. And I also wanted to wish you Happy Holidays!

Oh, they look amazing! I will defenitely try this.
I was wondering, I don't have triple gloss varnish. Do you think resin will have the same outcome?

Thank you for your beautiful message! I'm sorry for replying so late. It's now that I've just seen your message. I think resin is the best option for a glass-like effect. I'm using Triple Thick because it worked well for me (though I now see that it has a lot of limitations and it is affected by the climate in which it is used) and it seemed easier to use and it cured faster than resin. Have an amazing day!

I like how sprinkling the chalk on makes an enamel effect. What kind of effect do you get if you gently burnish the clay while the stencil is still in place?

Thank you for your comment! You can surely do that too. I think it works just as fine. To have an idea I recommend this tutorial from Ilysa and Kira

Another great video. I tried Triple Thick glaze and it ended up sticky after a while. How do you find it after it stays on the clay for a while?

Hello! I didn't have any issues with the Triple Thick until now and I'm using it intensively and it's been awhile since I've been using it. Someone told me recently that Triple Thick could not work very well in humid and hot climates so I think that in the case, resin is the best solution to achieve a beautiful glass-like effect. Thank you very much for appreciating my tutorial! Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Thank you for your message! I wanted to tell you that I've received a lot of recommendations for solutions in case the Triple Thick does not work. Someone said that Varathane Clear Gloss Water-Based Interior Polyurethane works very well (on condition to apply 3-4 layers) and it's a solution preferred by a lot of clayers from the polymer clay community. Kalyana Design Tutorials recommends Lisa Pavelka's Magic Gloss and the Ultradome. I personally used a French epoxy resin in the past, but I'm not happy with the fact that I have to wait so much for the resin to cure. Have a wonderful day!
