Dave, I found your UA-cam channel via Everard Junction and have spent the last few weeks watching every single layout update. What a layout! It's brilliant and inspirational, a very enjoyable watch and I wish you every success for the future.
Hi, welcome aboard! I'm really glad you are enjoying watching it. Everard and I both model the same era. We have similar styles in some areas, but different in others. So between us I am sure you'll get a lot of decent stuff. Thanks for getting in touch and please feel free to comment on any of my videos and to share my channel to others. I'm always trying to continue to build my UA-cam channel, so the more people that know about it the better ;-) Thanks again for those very kind and supportive words. Cheers. Dave
Hi Dave, the area is looking fantastic and your attention to details is second to none and this is what makes layouts stand out from others, amazing job well done and I look forward to your next update. Regards George...
That's a great idea using the postcrete it has really worked well. Good to see you added a lookout for the worker and I think you are right about the ladder. There was only one we used had safety loops and that was because it had been renewed The others were all open in those days.
thanks....its great to know that I don't need loops on the ladder. Yeah I added a second man in....I take on board any comments I can from my videos and try to improve it, so added the man and a ladder. Cheers. Dave
0:48 - Sorted, nice solution and interesting explanation. I must admit I wouldn't much fancy climbing up - or down - that ladder, especially if I weren't sure that the train was keeping to timetable. I imagine there might be quite a vortex produced by trains going in an out of those tunnels!! Great work though, and especially the trench at 9:23 on the building site - ace.
Glad to see the overhead cantenary in place, been a while since you were making those up. They do look the part - looking forward to seeing the whole set of them in place on the layout. Iain
Yeah I had to do the scenic and building site and basically everything at that end before starting to install them, last thing I needed was having to lean over them to do scenic work etc. Hope they look good and it will finish off that end of the layout!....its been a lot of work! lol. Cheers. Dave
Your hard work is paying off. The building site area looks really good. The level xing you have modelled, are the barriers supposedly worked from another location using cameras ie a CCTV xing, then the barriers need skirts. If the barriers are supposedly automatic ie worked by trains, then the offside or right hand barrier as you approach each side of the xing needs removing as not to trap any road user on the xing when a train approaches the xing and the barriers start going down. This is how prototype level xings are.
It sometimes drives me to being crazy lol. Thanks though...I do like to think my efforts are welcomed by folk that watch, so it means a great deal to get feedback like yours. Cheers Scott. Dave
Great progress and detail in that corner. It was nice to see the SMS chain link fencing on a real layout as I don't think their website picture does it justice. Another purchase to make! Cheers
yeah its a great kit....but doing mine took me 7 hours in total....as its at a hard to reach part of the layout. So be patient with it. Click on the link in the description to take you to the SMS site. Then search for Chain link fence. ;-) Cheers. Dave
Well I wanted something to watch and this popped up . Great update as always . I'm just waiting for the oxford scotrail mk3's now but I suppose they will come out after Christmas now I want them for Christmas lol.
Hi, thanks....good timing lol. About the Scotrail Mk3a's....if the pre production samples are anything to go by, Oxford a screwed up the colours of the livery on the Scotrail coaches and they may look a bit daft next to the Bachmann MK2 DBSO ;-( I hope they sort out the shades of their liveries soon, as Oxford have taken a great coach and spoiled it with their version of Intercity/Scotrail livery. Cheers. Dave
@@DeanPark yes they need to make sure the colours match with the Bachmann class 47 and DBSO, if they can do that then at long last we will have a decent set of coaches for scotrail locos
Awesome vid Dave. I’ve been wanting to ask. Have you ever thought about putting a bit of abandoned track on your layout? That would look very interesting.
Hi, yes....but its where to fit it without it looking manufactured and out of place! That will be the problem. I have an abandoned, unused siding that I am going to be working on shortly.... that might be all I can fit in. Cheers.Dave
The building site is looking really good David. I’m particularly interested in how you achieved the rough surface. Can you comment or perhaps cover it in a future video? Paul
Hi, its Post-Crete, sprinkled on unevenly and wet with water. That is it basically lol. Then add some scatters to vary the tone of it.Then its all sealed in place with some Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement. Very easy, but I think its really effective. Cheers. Dave
Can you tell me the make/model of the camera/screens used to provide live viewing of the hidden storage yard. I have the same issue but have not been able to locate a camera/screen set-up that is affordable, compact and easy to use. I'm getting on in age so the viewing screen size is important. Most set ups I have seen only have tiny 50-75mm screens which are far too small. Kevin

Nice video Dave and a great job with fencing. Also love the trench you’ve cut out. Great idea.

Great up date Dave, love the material ideas and the details that brings a diorama together. Looking fotward to the next update. Cheers Tim
When we dug trenches the spoil really builds up to an astonishing amount. However, looking very good overall.
Superb attention to detail as usual, I look forward to each update. Keep it up 👍

Your new fence looks great, good work!
Looks absolutely great. Well done. Got some ideas for my layout now. Cheers. Pete
Your eye to detail is crazy. I wish I could be that detailed with my layout.
It sometimes drives me to being crazy lol. Thanks though...I do like to think my efforts are welcomed by folk that watch, so it means a great deal to get feedback like yours. Cheers Scott. Dave
Liking the trench at the back of the site. Great update cheers Matt

Stunning Dave
Great idea with the postcrete I may have to use something similar for the base of the quarry I’m making, thanks

Novel use of postcrete! I used mine to put fence posts in😀

Thanks for that Dave. Paul
I liked the update.
As always Great Work Well Done 👍
Great progress! Did you have trouble with the house foundations breaking into the tunnel? It looks real close!
No! ;-) Just misses, as the tunnel curves around to the left. Dave
Hi Dave, the part built houses; are they scratch built, or available commercially? Cheers. Bob
hi. The houses are from Bachmann Scenecraft. They are not currently in their range, but they crop up on ebay quite frequently. Cheers. Dave

Another interesting update! Out of interest - how high is your layout from the floor?
Should the ladder and the stairs on the relay boxes be the same side? If not they have to walk on the track to reach it
Its there as its near access from the tmd level. And there is space for the worker to walk safely along the cess to access the steps.
Did you come to the Aberdeen rail show? If not will you be at Glasgow?
are the houses still available
The scaffold on those houses doesn't comply with regs....I've contacted the HSE.
Was the HSE even around in the 1980's lol.
There always has to be one who is against
How much are those houses selling for Dave? I fancy moving there once I've had the operation to be around 24mm tall :-)
You do nice work. I'm jalorse
Nice.
Love your work. However, not sure who would give planning permission for the two new builds on top of a railway tunnel...:0)
