Dave, I'm lost for superlatives to describe what you're doing on your amazing layout...it just keeps on getting better and better. I'm afraid I'll never achieve anything like the level at which you operate, and have decided that I'm going to adopt yours and watch it running for hours on end.
Hi, thanks! ;-) I put a lot of time, thought and effort into my builds so its great that fellow modellers like you appreciate my efforts. Adopt away, you're welcome! ;-) Cheers. Dave
Another great update Dave. The maintenance teams were usually 3 man 2 to do the work and 1 lookout man so a couple more figures would be nice to see with the lone man. A ladder for access is a possible answer but more often you walked to site. In a situation like this a system called TOWS is often used. It has posts along the track side with a Claxton on, which sounds a continuous warning tone similar to a level crossing when a train is coming. Staff turn the system on before walking through the risky area and it sounds a tone every few seconds to show it is working
Great work wrapping up the cutting area. Looks really nice. Nice to see the building site now going to develop, especially with all the additional detailing pieces you've been building. Iain
Great video as always Dave. Fantastic peek-a boo scene at the tunnel, lots of great shots to be had there. Look forward to the building site being created. Cheers John.
On the building site deep foundation footings and drain trenches would be very convincing with lots of spoil nearby which always looks much more than was dug out.
Great progress and cracking running footage Dave. I have achieved hee haw on my layout over the summer as my son got a new house and I've been busy with that for four months! However, they're in now and the evenings are drawing in to get back up into the loft.
Great video as always Dave. One thing I did notice was that the background noise in this one sounds like the stock audio files used in Train Simulator haha!
It may be a little to late now, but did you know that in the 80/90's some relay boxes (especially in the rural areas) has a yellow flashing light on the top. These lights were known as "call attention" lights that were controlled by the signalbox. If the signalman needed to speak to someone out on the track, they would activate the light. So, anyone out on the track who saw the light would contact the signalbox, and hopefully you would get hold of the person you wanted. Could be a nice little detail to consider maybe??
9:25 - umm, how did he get there?* Did he walk, or come by train? Or maybe a very long ladder? He does bring life to an otherwise tricky area, and the back scene blend works very well above. The remote nature of the space does seem to have deterred the graffiti merchants! * Should have known someone would have asked already. Was Red Bull around back then? Or would it have been Irn Bru? Looking forward to seeing that busy building site. I do love the blend of scenic work and running trains.
Great video ! The layout is looking fantastic - keep up the great work :-) i have been using lots of Scale Model Scenery items myself for a while, and they are a really great product. Ironically i have also recently finished a knightwing double portakabin with lit & detailed interior! It must be something in the air ! Lol 👍
David your layout is excellent. It's better than some I saw at model rail this year. The biggest mistake I did with mine was using chip board instead of ply. I'm paying for it now .
Hi Dave, great update as always the scenery you have done in the cutting area is excellent and the detail you have added just makes the scene even better, the building site you are planning are you going to add bricks scattered about, I don't know why I am asking no matter what you do I am sure it will look the part just like the rest of your layout, I look forward to your next update. Regards George..
Hi George, yeah scattered bricks are planned lol. will be working on choosing ground cover for the building site and then adding the detail in the coming weeks. Cheers. Dave
Hi Dave Another great video, Oxford Rail MK3s look good. I have used Roco couplings part number 40271 pkt of 50 I got them from The Hobby Shop cost £33 including postage it really improves the gap between them. Peter
Hi Dave I have tested them in push mode with no problems. Roco also make that coupling which is adjustable which is perfect for the Hornby power cars. Peter
Hi Dave Superb update The scenics on the lower section is sublime, the detail is amazing. Some great stuff youve picked up from Scale Model Scenery too, Ive only recently been looking on their website myself and you can soon find youve spent a fortune lol I think Ill be back to get some of those wagon loads. Great sounds from the 47 Cheers Paul
Cheers Paul, yeah it does sound good now that I upgraded the sound to Legomanbiffo. I know what you mean about spending a fortune!, I seem to do that too often these days, no matter what bits and pieces I need for the layout....prices are just getting silly. Dave
Eh up Dave Cant beat Legoman as far as I'm concerned but its got a premium price tag. Its certainly getting expensive and I'm definately going to be scratch building and trying to find alternative scenic materials. Thats not even taking into consideration locos and stock. I wanted a Dapol 29 but not sure I can justify £150+ Think weve commented on this before lol Cheers Paul
Always enjoy your video even though I am not a railway modeller myself. Why don;t you guys model the bellows that join up the coaches? You go to great lengths with everything else.
Cracking layout a big thumbs up. Like the small builders materials, who makes the backscenes and what are the codes as been trying to get them for my layout.
Hi David, looking good as always, fab info and ideas you bring to the party, was looking to see where your droppers are located on your rails - seem to be veer well placed. ? Allan
Hi David - As always your layout is impeccable you detailing is amazing I am really impressed with your artistic designs. Lights and passengers in your carriages would be a great touch. With the amount of locos running have you set up routes and shuttle train operation in your ECoS ? how are you doing with the ECoS ? great piece of kit, I have the 50200 operating my Border Route Line, which combines the old Waverley line also. Regards Allan
Great video as ever Dave. One thing though, how does the wee man working at the cabinet in the new cutting scene get to it? At the moment it could only be by walking through one of the tunnels. I've seen on other layouts wall ladders in a circular 'cage' modelled. Would one of those fit into the scene? Just a thought.
Hi, I may fit ladders, scale model scenery do a laser cut ladder. I might fit one. An alternative is just to give the wee guy a can of Red Bull....it gives you wings and he can fly out! lol Dave
Hello from Australia. I have finally caught up with all your videos. I have been on a binge since I subscribed about a month back. I must say the attention to detail in this layout is mighty impressive. Looking forward to watching many more of your updates. I have recently just began preparing an area under my house for a layout maybe just a tad bigger than yours which will also run a 2 tier system so this layout has given me some aweome ideas. Event though I will obviously be modelling an aussie scene there is a lot of ideas and hints that I can use and modify to suit my layout. Can i ask a couple questions? How do you keep your layout clean? Also with all the paper built models that youve had on the layout since the beginning have you started to notice any lifting or deterioration over the 4 or so years its been since you started? As i am contemplating using the same methods. Once again thanks for your highly detailed and descriptive videos of your layout, and look forward to seeing this out to the finish
Hi, thanks for getting in touch and good luck with your modeling. My card models have lasted very well. I made sure I attached the paper brick sheets etc to card using 3M Mounting spray. This ensures they do not lift. I also sprayed each sheet of paper with Matt Spray varnish to stop any moisture or other damage. I try my best, but as you say after 4 (6 years in some cases) they have lasted well.As for keeping it clean...I use a Dyson! lol. Every so often I take the soft brush attachment and nozzle to hoover the track, buildings etc. I also work my way around the harder to reach places with a soft brush/vacuum and a micro fibre cloth. As for the grasses etc, I try to lightly vacuum them, brushing them carefully with a soft brush to move any dust while hovering the vacuum over the area. As for coaches etc, I have a very soft brush used to clean the lenses of cameras that I brush over my models. When I am working on a dusty area of the layout, ie carving embankments etc I cover the areas around about with thin plastic dustsheets, then carefully remove them after. If you try to keep on top of the cleaning it doesnt become a major issue. Thats why I do not have over heard wiring on my masts as that would make cleaning impossible. Hope that helps. Cheers. Dave
Hi, thanks! That part of the layout will be raised up/embankment making the track appear in a cutting loosely based on Edinburgh Waverely gardens. But thats a couple of years away....at least lol. Cheers. Dave
Yeah I seem to be going around anti clockwise lol. It wasn't deliberate, but I want to finish one end before moving too far on with the TMD side of the layout. I love to work on it as much as my time will allow, no rush though. I enjoy making it as much as I do running trains on it! ;-)
Hi, its scratch built... Just using bits of plastic styrene, sprayed grey, then a control panel image from Google stuck on it. Thanks for getting in touch ;-) Dave
Very nice. Question. How does the worker get to that relay box platform? Does a maintenance loco come and drop him off and pick him up or would a ladder up a wall in the rieht place with respect to overhead power lines be the right solution?
Hi Dave, cracking video as always. Any chance of a mention please? I don't do many videos and they are a bit sporadic but some more views might spur me on. Many thanks. Matt
Hi, your layout is looking so good. Great attention to details. Could you let me know where you got your modern speed signs or did you make them yourself? Thanks
Ten Commandments do them, but they are expensive for what get. These are scratch built. I covered this in a previous update this year....cant remember which one! lol. Scale Model Scenery are launching their own in November I have been told....might be worth waiting for them? Dave
Hi, Scale Model Scenery.co.uk If you buy them, PLEASE if possible add in the notes for the order or contact them to tell them you saw it on a Dean Park video. ;-) Cheers. Dave
It's amazing how complete Dean Park is looking. Dave, and yet there is still so much to do. Great video as always. Cheers, Bob
Thanks for the update David, once again some outstanding work you've done! I think you're capturing the "eighties feel" very well indeed. Joachim
The portakabin is something special Dave...the drawing on the desk...nice touch. The guy having a brew too...fantastic.
Hi Mark, yeah I am proud of the portacabin. You'll not see the detail when its on the layout really, but I like to do all the detail I can. Dave
Beautiful job on your offices. Amazing detail inside as well. It looks like all the work offices I can remember form back when I was working.
Dave, I'm lost for superlatives to describe what you're doing on your amazing layout...it just keeps on getting better and better. I'm afraid I'll never achieve anything like the level at which you operate, and have decided that I'm going to adopt yours and watch it running for hours on end.

The detail and care you put in is first class, keep up the great work
Great work wrapping up the cutting area.
All of the little details really do make a layout stand out .. looks great . Thanks
The layout is looking great. The scenery info you give on how you do things is great. Always enjoy the trains running.
Awesome as always, the scenic detail is amazing, a masterpiece, well done
This is developing very well. The track detail is making a tremendous difference.
Great update David, the building site looks good in the planning stage and I love all the bits you have from Justin, Andy
On the building site deep foundation footings and drain trenches would be very convincing with lots of spoil nearby which always looks much more than was dug out.
Captivating, attention to detail and it’s execution spot on.
Such a brilliant layout dude. The attention to detail is amazing.
The shot of the upper line looking back down past the station is superb mate! Love that new 86 too!
It's an 87
Ultimate Trains Whatever - it’s nice!
Yes: Exactly!
Another very classy video of your superbly detailed work Dave keep up the good work , proper job.
Cheers Steven. ;-) Dave
Love that cutting, also can't wait to see how the building site develops :D
Nicely done Dave. You're a master modeler, that's certain enough! A true pleasure thank you.
Thanks. Very kind of you to say that. Dave
Another awesome video Dave, really enjoyed it! Looking forward to the next update 😉
Excellent! I like the quality, realism and business!!!
looking good mate keep up the good work . can't wait to see the building site

Yup thats what I intend to be doing a lot more of now the nights are getting darker quicker. ;-) Dave
i think that worker might benefit form a ladder access to the upper part of the layout. safe than walking through those tunnels
Great video as always Dave.

as always a great running session and very entertaining as usual and incredible eye for detail 👍👍👍👍
David your layout is excellent. It's better than some I saw at model rail this year. The biggest mistake I did with mine was using chip board instead of ply. I'm paying for it now .
How are you paying for it? Swelling with moisture? PLY is prob the best, more stable than chip and MDF.
@@DeanPark Yes David, when I first put the baseboard down it was bang on level, there is now a few dips in it.
Really enjoyed That, as always!
"Absolutely stunning" cannot think of anything else to say!

Hi David, looking good as always, fab info and ideas you bring to the party, was looking to see where your droppers are located on your rails - seem to be veer well placed. ?

Hi yes they are soldered to the underside of the rails, not the sides. Also some of the fishplates have additional droppers. Cheers. Dave
Very cleaver place to solder.

You get a few on ebay, class 47's from Heljan, Hornby etc. Always worth a look out for!
