  • You've heard about this ingredient in your skin--but do you know it's also a critical component of your vital organs? Research in elastin preservation and regeneration may be the key to future longevity.
    Dr. Vyavahare is a Hunter Endowed Chair and Professor of Bioengineering-his primary research and teaching interests are in the area of heart valve biomaterials, site-specific therapies, and extracellular matrix remodeling in tissue regeneration. Dr. Vyavahare is a Director of NIH funded South Carolina Bioengineering Center of Regeneration and Formation of Tissues (SC BioCRAFT). His research is published in over 150 journal publications and conference proceedings, and six book chapters; additionally, Dr. Vyavahare holds 13 International and US Patents. Some of the patents are now licensed to companies to develop products.
    His current research includes targeted treatments to restore extracellular matrix and tissue function in heart valves, aortic aneurysms, vascular calcification, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and skin disorders.

    Although, people who consume lots of polyphenols are known to live longer, and there are many creams that do contain them for dermal delivery... I wonder to what degree or quantity these must be infused to be effective.

    Thank you for enlighten us - the polyphenol repair seems very interesting. There are polyphenols in grapes (wine) and in other berries too, e.g. pterostilbene and quercetin in blueberrys. Why can't our else infinitely smart organism use those polyphenols to repair our elastin when we just eat (plenty of) those berries?
