Getting it back together is just the reverse of the strip down.
This 1.2 3-cylinder VW BMD engine rebuild with all new gaskets, seals and piston rings.
This process can mostly be used on any internal combustion, piston engine.

Nice video, very good job! I am amazed to see someone dismantle the lower part of the engine, I wanted to do it but I read a message from VW :
"The crankshaft must not be removed. Just loosening the main bearing caps will cause deformation of the cylinder block bearing pedestals. This deformation will cause a reduction of the bearing clearance. Even if the bearing shells are not renewed bearing damage could occur due to a different bearing clearance. If the bearing cap bolts are loosened, the cylinder block must be renewed complete with the crankshaft. Measuring the main bearing clearance is not possible with normal workshop equipment. The pistons must not be removed"
Didn't you have any problems after that ? And what about torque wrench/degree settings ? 🤙

I wouldn't suggest doing it on this engine to anyone. The video was mostly for general engine repairs to be honest as the basic principle fits pretty much any engine. I planned all along to replace the engine as it had internal issues, out of curiosity I did try this engine after to see if the issue was as bad as its said to be, I had virtually no oil pressure from it, thanks for the comment and taking the time to watch!

A man that certainly knows the absolute ins & outs in this rebuild. I have a one owner 2004 VE Polo 1.4 auto (BKY) 112,000 miles and I am looking for someone with the experience your clearly demonstrate, to carry out a rebuild on my car. Any recommendations?

Hi there, thank you for the comment.
To help you better, where are you based and what level of rebuild your after?

    • @yutpx

It's a 2004 VW Polo 1.4 auto Reg. No, LL04 DBY Auto BKY engine code. It;s covered 112,000miles and we have owned it from new. The engine sounded tappety at 46,000 miles, took it to VW who said it was ok. Took it back at 71,000 miles as engine noise was loader. Again they turned me away. Its now 112k and its very tappety. So, we are looking to rebuild the engine and to do whatever it needs, as we intend to keep it.@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms

      @yutpx That is totally understandable.
I would be more than happy to perform this work, I am based in Suffolk though.
If you are happy to deliver the car here, or I could arrange collection to mine.
Otherwise, I do not know any good ones in your local area im afraid

Wonder if it'll pass emissions. I wouldn't recommend rebuilding the bmd after doing mine. Get the 1.4 dohc it's better all round. But nice work.

@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms nice one, it's cool to see videos of these ages of engines popping up, lots of the early noughties VAGs are going to the scrap yard with the new emissions laws.

Nice! Do you know motor code? I one time tried rebuilding BMD from Fox and there wasn’t metal sleeves, just Nikasil coating. It was 2005 year model.

@@Boxing-ju1es hi, unfortunately with this engine, the way its designed, the bottom end of the engine should never be disassembled as its torqued to shape at the factory and once unbolt, the block warps and never goes back together correctly
This video is for general engine rebuild information.
Best thing to do if get a used engine and if you've had any head work done, swap the heads round, new head gasket and bolts, and crank seals.
