Heater Matrix Flush | Audi A3 | 8P -The Autistic Car Guy
Thanks! Just used your video to do this and I’ve got heat again! Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work if it’s caused by the matrix being clogged…. Like where you would definitely need a new heater matrix? If it’s not leaking it seems like a metal part white no moving pieces wouldn’t fail, never had this happen on cars with 300,000+ miles on them.
Thank you for this very interesting question. There are a handful of possible causes. Often though, it's caused by not doing coolant changes semi-regularly. And also not using the correct or any anti-freeze. The anti-freeze part of coolant isn't just to prevent freezing, it's also used as a lubricant for the water pump moving parts and an anti-corrosive. Without it, the iron in your engine block and the aluminium in the head, Radiator etc can start to corrode and can then get pulled through the system and build up in any narrowing spaces, such as within the heater matric/core, radiator and in small cooling jackets within the engine. Is these deposits stay there, they will collect more and more small bits and will build up and often cause blockages. Hope this helps answer your question!
😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha
Good clear instructions very helpful good video, Thanks!
Hi i have a similar car audi 2010 a3 8p7. Now no heater working car is overheating a bit. No error codes. Someone said it is the heater control valve. Can you please tell me where it is located? Under the dash or under the car? Any easy tip to replace it is highly appriciated!
Hi there. If the car is overheating, it's less likely to be the heater control Valve. This would only affect the cabin heating system. I would suggest you check the thermostat unit first as the thermostat/waterpump unit is made of plastic and are common to fail. Also the blend doors are a known common fault also, these will affect the cabin temp control also. But the heater control valve is usually located under the dash, within the HVAC box. Hope this helps!
@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms thanks but i already changed the water pump. Now no coolant leak. It is bubbbling inside the reservoir bottle if i drive past 10kms. Then overheats. The inside the room heater not working either. I guess a combination of different problems. 750$ already disappeared from pocket for water pump... Nnow gonna do it by self to save some money 😆
@mtano3 If its bubbling in the coolant reservoir, im afraid that you likely have a head gasket failure. Get a head gasket test kit, they are very cheap and will give you a good idea if the head gasket has failed or not
@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms yes i will try that👌🏻
I have the same problem overheating change water pump tersmostat radiator car overheats bottom radiator hose always cold looks like is thermostat is not opening when gage gears to 12 clock both fas runs fast and temperature starts to get hot let but when I turn the car off for 2 seconds temperature back to normal
Brilliant vid ❤
Just rediscovered your channel, brilliant vid. Keep them coming, love you vids - informative and detailed explanations and exciting projects ! 😊
I really appreciate your support! Plenty more to come, I assure you!!
Great to see more vids ! Loved the polo vids, and good to see you back 😊 Best, Steve
Thanks
Hey, are you using service manuals for research? What are your sources?
Hi there. I use a paid system called Autodata. It has all factory specs and procedures
Thanks for the video clip, now I know a bit how the manual transmisson works, your explain very clear. I use manual a long time, now I see how it works. I have Toyota celica, recently it doesn't move in 1st, 2nd gear, but it moves in 4 gear, and the reverse gear is fine (very normal). I wonder this is the problem of the transmission or the clutch worn out. Anyone has an idea?
Great walkthrough 👍
Thank you for your comment!
Wasn’t that mine?
Yeppp, it sure was
😂😂😂
Sparkly oil means +25bhp right?
Yep, it's part of the performance pack
Brill video . Thanks.
Thank you for your feedback. Hope the video helps!
3.5 ecoboost ford trash?
It a very badly "rebuilt" unit, from a Vauxhall Vivaro 1.6 cdti van
I'd be more worried about the wiring / headlamp it came out of!
I was too, somehow the headlight housing was perfect, and all the wiring was tested and not a single issue
That’s a heat swell, not 100% sure how it happened, the only thing that comes to mind is maybe a really hot day, sun shining on the light in the right way to work like magnifying glass on the bulb?
A good guess. Unfortunately it's England, in Winter. So definitely no sun! Was also a pretty new bulb
Ronny mcnutt??
Who?
I have scrolled too far down the UA-cam short rabbit hole
You and me both bud 😂
Same lol
At this point. Haven't we all...
You can deal with that Theo!
Love you Theo ❤ Well done! Look forward to seeing more Kx
Thank you Kelly! More coming very soon! Xx
My old man fixed my rust problem with fisholen and pop riveted metal patches. It looked and smelt as bad as it sounds.
Yeah... that definitely does not sound good at all. Maybe a large dose of JB Weld for good measure?
I have the same car with oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold cover. I’m guessing it’s coming out of the cam cover seal. What do you think? Thx Adam
Hi Adam, that does very much sound like the cam cover seal, it's very cheap and easy to do, especially on this car, so worth doing anyway
Thanks for the reply....I also think the water pump is a bit on the noisy side too. The car is in great condition otherwise and only done 85K. I can see you know what youre doing , so are these jobs something you would consider doing for me? I've lost faith in my garage as they way overfilled my oil on a standard service (by an inch) and that's what caused the oil leak I believe. Hope you don't mind me asking. Thanks Adam @@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms
@adamharland7716 It's tricky to say if I'm honest. It's more about if YOU feel confident in doing it. This car is definitely on the easy end of the spectrum. But when messing with cam chains and head bolt torque sequences. It's possible you can, but take your time, don't rush anything
Hi, my audi a3 cabriolet 2010, engine overheating when driving 20 or more minutes, when revs are about 2k. Initially thought it was the head gasket, apprentice done a sniff test which apparently was positive then the mechanic done one a few days later which was negative. Warranty company done one too that was negative. In the process of getting the timing belt/water pump and thermostat done. But if the issue is still here, could it be this issue??
Hi there. There likelihood is that you have a head gasket, Thermostat or blocked radiator issue. Have you confirmed that the radiator fans actually come on correctly? Thermostats are a common issue on this gen Audi A3. A sniff test is not totally accurate unfortunately, so it may be that you have a head gasket issue. So check gans working correctly. Then Thermostat. Radiator flow check. Finally water pump and head gasket
How do you bleed air in the heater core after flushing
You are best trying the typical bleeding process. Fill the cooling system with Max line. Then with heater on full heat and full blower speed. Run until the coolant has hit the 90 degrees Celsius mark, (until thermostat had opened). Then running until there is no further bubbles coming to the top of the reservoir. Once this has happened. If your air is starting to feel warm inside the car. Put the cap back on the coolant reservoir, then go for a 15/20 minute drive. Let the engine cool down, then open the coolant cap, if the level has dropped, top up until the Max level again
Thanks for the great video - Just had mine back from garage today for a check on the lack of heating - they quoted about £1000 incl VAT (as a rough estimate) to change the heater matrix and seals, header tank etc - they checked with the local Audi dealer for prices for parts and they were told that they are selling about 3 heater matrix units per day due to the silicone bag rupturing and clogging up the heater matrix. - going to have to live with the cold until i can get around to trying this back flush method.
Great video. Ill try this before I purchase a new heater core. Thanks.
why in the world would u do a time laps and not explain the removal of the timing belt and the head. is there something wrong with your brain or something. then what’s the point of making the video, UESESS ! 😮
I have this problem , thanks for the detailed video. The silicon gel bag problem is apparently a common fault. VW list a cleaning solution to sort it out. Funny that , as if it was a marketing ploy all along or after they realised the failure was a thing.
Why suddenly is my gearbox rattling in fifth gear vauxhall meriva excite 1.4. Year 2011 petrol, anybody please?
Unfortunately you likely have internal failure. If its only when you engage 5th gear, it will probably be the synchros or the bearings on that end of the transmission
@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustoms I just thought I would update you on my gearbox issue. I took it to a few garages and they all came up with different things it could be and some of the prices I was quoted ranged £1000 to £1500!!.so I eventually found a garage who took the job on and they basically gave the gearbox a new clutch and overall replaced other bits and pieces in their and got me back on the road for £500. They look after my car now for anything else it needs. My advice is to shop around and look for good reviews on garage services.
Hi there, I found your video through a forum. Great detailed description of what to do. I wanted to check, my heating hasn't worked properly so I had my water pump changed but that didn't work. Would I be right in saying that it would be worth getting the thermostat done before this? I'm also losing coolant very regularly, do you know why that is?
Hi, thank you for this. Definitely worth replacing the thermostat, as they are cheap and generally easy. If you don't have an obvious coolant leak, its quite possible you have the oil cooler, or headgasket failing, as this can also cause the heating to not work
@@AutisticCarGuy-OriginCustomsi have 2.0tdi im experiencing same problems coolant keeps going down within a day and heating doesnt blow warm the garage said its all down to the heater matrix is that the case or would it be two problems?
@@jefferyposnan9543 Hi there. Do you have a sweet smell inside the cabin when the engine warms up? If so, you likely have a leaking heater matrix. Other possibilities could be a leak in your coolant hosing somewhere. Or a failed/failing head gasket
How did you get it in time
Nice video and Nice work!!! Have you got the tightening torque? I need it if you give me i will be grateful to you!!!!! Thanks a lot
Just found this vid. And it’s been invaluable in helping me repair my old Vw polo. Thanks 😊
what is the update of the polo? is it back on the road? or did you scrap it?
Im in south Africa. Got the 1.4l 9n. Thinking of attempting to rebuilding it myself. Very helpful vid
Great video 👍
Hi my heating is working on one side & only slightly on the other, checked the hoses, the inlet is hot but the outlet is only tepid, i did the flush & immediately got clear water from the inlet side,, flushed it for a while, put the radiator flush in, flushed again & filled with antifreeze, the heating is no different, when I'm driving the car i do get slightly warm air but only when I put the heating on recirculation, any other ideas?
Apologies for the late reply, I hope you managed to get this sorted? Did you back flush it? It could be a number of issues from the heater core being too blocked and needing replacing. To the cooling system having a leak.
should you try the before the thermostat replacement option ? would it even be the thermostat if the temp didnt go past 90? what if the temp doesnt get to 90? thermostat first?
Definitely worth changing the thermostat if it won't reach 90. It probably means that the thermostat is stuck open.
What torque settings did you go with on the bottom end? Great build.
what was the procedure for tightening the connecting rods and the crankshaft degrees and tightening torques
that T-Shirt was intentional
Hey wondered how U was doing cause u haven’t posted in years, hopefully we see new content from you soon 💚
Time elapsed is defeating the entire purpose for me for watching the video.
I always appreciate people gettin in UA-cam doing these.videos but yes I think for future reference I would just have it play and normal speed so allows people to see in depth.
10mm bolts. Can't we have the detailed description of tools u used
5 ml allien keys
Wonderful work. I'd love to see a strip down of the gears on the Polo
You are a bloody brilliant mechanical communicator. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I've learnt a hell of a lot
