I think there is definitely some truth to this and I and many others definitely suffer from this to an extend. I'd constantly think of myself poorly as a Techter because the people I frequently play with are doing so much more damage than me (more than the 5% Shifta would justify). But then I do things like Depth 100 Solo Sodam (Base PSO2) and getting all these comments congratulating me and saying they weren't able to clear it on Techter, or gave up on the class outright and that makes me feel better about myself. I still struggle with it but its something I'm trying to be more conscious about. Instead of comparing my DPS to the Force or Braver in our party I'm comparing it to my last run. Im always happy to reach new personal best DPS and sometimes it's not even gear related. Sometimes I can gain a lot of DPS simply by doing less mistakes or optimizing my positioning more. Things that cost you nothing other than pressing the buttons at better times. I agree that more people need to start comparing to themselves like you said! ❤
Correct! Learn to push yourself. Not to worry so much about the next person. You want to get better or improve your time. What can you personally do to get better or improve your time from what it was yesterday? Change up mechanics, tweak your gear, how does your playstyle fit? etc etc. Too often people will compare apples to oranges within this game. If you're a Force for example, stop comparing yourself to how a Braver performs against a single boss that works a single particular way that benefits a katana's mechanics. Can a Braver go into a PSE & be efficient? No. Will a force win out in scenarios where there's multiple mobs & the mobs are spread out or moving a lot? More than likely. Every class should not & does not need to operate the same. It would make for a very boring video game if that were the case & would require no diversity or no need for more than one class in the first place. It's like saying a White Mage in a traditional RPG should perform in the exact same manner as a Warrior class. Or that the Warrior should be able to do as much damage as a Ranged class on a mob that's constantly moving & flying. Now, could they possibly? Sure. But the warrior would likely have to work 3x as hard in that specific scenario, and that's ok. Whereas on another boss or setting, it'd work the opposite. There is no one & all, & there should not be. Individuals need to learn to push themselves and compare themselves to themselves. That is where the true joy exists in the game. Can you look at other player's gear or their rotations & get ideas? Of course! But it should be just that. An idea. A blueprint. Ultimately you build your own house and put your own furniture and decor in it that makes it uniquely yours! 😃
I long ago accepted as a Fighter/Knuckles and Wand/Techter main that my damage will never be as high as any other class...my support will never be as good as ranger. Someone has to be at the bottom...and there's always other weapon types to keep it company.
I'm right in the same place. My potency and floor potency is fine. I'm just trying to become a better Techter. If I play Hunter with the same weapon)gear (multi-weapon) my damage is higher. I did an experiment where I play the crazy tail cocoon to see how fast I can take it out, the Hunter wins by at least 10 seconds every time vs Techter. Long story short, I just need to get better and that's what drives me to play the game.
@@lenerlink Wand/Techter is actually extremely powerful, but it plays funny. This is one of the classes I visited some months ago & noticed its potential. It's also a generally valuable class to have either way because of its Shifta Deband. Do not be in any way shape or form confused as to the greatness that is Techter/Wand. In regards to Fighter, Fighter rework should be next month! So that's definitely exciting to look forward to! I've been playing around with Fighter a lot as well and testing different mechanics. Certain weapons definitely perform, and some just need a slight potency boost. Some, like Twin Daggers need a good little rework. That being said, each weapon performs well depending on the specific situation you're in. And utilizing 2 or more really creatives for a fulfilling and power Fighter gameplay! The biggest thing that I believe people have an issue taking away from the game, is that these weapons & classes all work differently. They are not meant to be equal & they should not be. So the gameplay mechanics and recommended ways of playing can vastly differ and some require much more fortitude & focus. For instance, I'm technically a Gunner TWMG main. For a long time, TWMGs & Gunner in general were viewed as the bottom of the barrel. They notoriously had no i-frames & a ridiculous amount of animation locks. I believe this was right after the original Retem Update that they really "fell off". However, I continued to optimize my playstyle & perfect the class & weapon. Staying competitive in all aspects to even the highest outputs. When there was literally only like 3 Gunners on the server, because the "meta" had "dismissed" it. Some classes you do have to work harder than others in certain scenarios. While it can also work the other way around. Ultimately, a class really can only perform at its highest level, vastly depending on the user input. One can have all the potency in the world, with great gear. And still underperform to someone with slightly lesser gear but with really strong mechanics & user input. Over the years of the game, I've literally been living proof of this. For example, things such as repositioning. You can do all the damage in the world, but if you're not strong at repositioning or timing enemy movements, this is an area that can vastly break overall output. Big thing is to compete with yourself! Because user input efficiency is going to vastly differ from person to person. Pull out your full potential!
@@ACLMSC There we go! Push yourself! Keep in mind, remember that certain bosses have certain mechanics that may favor differing/certain playstyles! You got this!
Main thing ruining the game for me is all the time I spend farming for something and it never dropping, been spending all my time in the game farming for Wingard since it came out with no luck.
My recommendation is understand what you're getting yourself into. The drop rates have always been this way in this game, and when partaking in heavy grind sessions, it's important that you as an individual understand that there's a strong possibility you could spend so & so amount of time & this thing never drops. Instead of letting the drop rate ruin your enjoyment of the game, change your mindset as to how you approach it. This doubles down on how they tend to implement things with Wingard just being a carrot to chase. Whereas, the options of high fixa'd 10 Stars are right there in one's face as well. I've yet to have a Wingard drop as well btw, and spend a good amount of time on the game. However, I don't base my enjoyment of the game around getting a Wingard. It's placed in enjoying the game as a whole, achieving other things, enjoying time spent with people in the game, and if the Wingard drops, then it drops. In the mean time, I make necessary means to improve in other aspects of my gameplay. It's all about the mindset! That being said, only due time until you see a Wingard drop!
I loved everything about this video man. You are so right about comparing yourself to others. I used to do that. I felt like I would hold people back, and this was when DFS was released. But I came back from all that and improved my game play. I worked very hard on getting my gear where I felt it should be. I play other classes like Slayer and Ranger. But I'm a Force main. Always have been, and always will be a Force main. And we Force mains get no love lol. But I love what I love, and I enjoy the game. Thank you again Spike. ❤

A lot people at the top of the leader boards also have a high level of skill in their class. Some these guys are putting hours into the game. The DPS meter was one of the best things they put into the game as it allows you to look at what rotations do the best DPS and counters.
I'm not discrediting anyone or their want to go after the leaderboards. People who want to shoot for the leaderboards can & should shoot for the leaderboards. Compete with yourself first & foremost, however. The game is vastly much more than just Arks Records and solo speed runs. Learn to first enjoy and challenge oneself by what's within one's own means. Needed this video thanks Spike. I had a genuine question about Potency floor, I'm quite new and I've been using cake's DPS google sheet. I'm currently 202 Potency and every time I took out my tryials for more floor potency I lose dps to DFD(in cake's calculator), would that be the same result in game you think? I play Braver and I've been really wondering if adding more Floor potency would help or not.
Hello! And you're welcome! Thank you for enjoying the video! So the first thing you must understand, is that the calculator is not fool proof. It will show you the max damage that you can output. However, it can not account for variables such as gameplay & consistency. Also, when you ignore Floor Potency, you're essentially gambling for crits. So, while it's possible you have a really strong run, it's also possible on other runs that you have the worst dps overall. Ignoring Floor Potency entirely is essentially to gamble. Specifically for classes other than Slayer. In regards to DFD, there's a main thing that you need to understand about DFD, & that's that Canons scale off of Floor Potency & BP. So while full potency may serve you a certain type of way in the combat stages, it will serve you absolutely nothing in the Canon phase. The calculator is not an all-answers-answered. The calculator will show you general values and gives you an idea of the differences that you'll see. Namely, it will greatly enable you to see just how stronger certain weapons & fixas can be compared to other options. It however, can not play the game for you, or insure that you will constantly crit on every big attack to achieve that number you see. The calculator can not account for inherent variables that will exist on a case per case basis. Each class and weapon plays differently, as such each will have its strengths & weaknesses. For instance, just because the calculator says you'll do this much damage, does not mean that you'll magically just do this much damage every time on every mob in every scenario. For instance, lets say the calculator says you'll do so & so much damage & you're a Knuckles Main. If you're fighting Nex Aelio & he's flying around, you're likely not going to produce these same results, correct? Variables. The calculator should be used as an outline. Not as an absolute truth.

I am so proud of myself for arks record, I bought wingard and thought I would've rolled it. It took me 9 minutes to monkey and I died to it. I am such a pro 🤣
"Someone's gonna be very upset when I say this, but, bro Force kinda strong bruh" *UNSUBSCRIBED, DISLIKED, REPORTED, SENT TO THE POLICE, UNACCEPTABLE, MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS IMMESURABLE AND DAY RUINED!* I'm joking ofcourse haha honestly I 120% agree with this whole message as always haha Comparison is the thief of joy. I'm quite lucky I've learnt to detach myself from that type of mindset over the years and started being able to see other people doing better than me as inspiration to do better myself; ontop of having complete focus on my own growth, it's a nice reminder knowing there's still even more I can do / I can still become even stronger or better at everything, and that pushes and motivates me to continue, to get better; but I can understand the struggle when your mindset locks you into feeling bad that you can't reach what others reach. Same case with life really, life is a journey. Everyone has their own unique experience and path, and sometimes you won't run into the same gorgeous field of flowers you see other people coming across, but while you're looking at everyone else, you may miss the breathtaking waterfalls and wildlife everyone is jealous of on your path. If you can focus on your own path / what you enjoy / play the game like you're the only one playing (I play Katana mw'ed with Jet Boots and Bow mw'ed with Soaring Blades like c'mon just enjoy yourself haha) suddenly any and every game / life will open up for you so much more than when you force yourself to be like others. Arguably I always say as long as you can clear what you want to clear, that's all you need! There will always be someone better than you... but there will always be someone who looks up to what you do in amazement too, so do your best to remember that and enjoy that waterfall.
Feels like every class gets luv and hate equally. Personally I went from Partisan Hunter/ Rifle Ranger to Partisan/ Force Rod then Blades/ Force. Afterwards now it’s just random between Partisan, Blades, Rod, Katana and a bit of Slayer. Am I good not really is it fun yup😺
People want to be able to feel strong. Iv been playing since release and i have yet to this day to ever get " the new hotness " when it comes out. Regardless of how much rigged RDR i have or not. So yes its a bit frustrating to farm and farm and farm and get nothing for your effort.
How exactly does this pertain to the topic at hand? I believe this would've been better suited on my Wingard video. Nonetheless, the avenues are always there to succeed and show personal improve. Keep at it!
Problem some players are taking gearing to seriously. And simple ruin the fun for other players. Who have no time or meseta to uograde a first week. Second problem.. last time some classes are really hated. Players say when you wanna play this content then cose/ play something else. Makes my angry. Because of this some people/ new players quiet the game.
I do agree that there can be a lot of people who can "gatekeep" or try to "force you" into playing a specific class/set of classes. Which can heavily ruin the playing experience of others, especially new players. This of course, will never be the case with me. I will explain to you why some classes may work better than others on specific things, but I will never confine you into a box & tell you that you HAVE to play a certain class. Having this done to you defeats the whole purpose of playing an MMO. I will provide you the tools needed to succeed. I will not however, build the vehicle for you. In regards to taking gearing too seriously. Gear does need to be taken to a degree of seriousness at least at a minimum. In that, SEGA often creates opportunities to easily obtain quality gear. Such as the massive campaigns we have going on right now for over a month. While it's not necessary to have the absolute ultimate top gear in the game, it is expected to have at least a bare minimum. The biggest reason behind this is because by not gearing at least to some degree, it has a direct effect on everyone's time. For instance, and this is an example, as it's not like this anymore, but when Dark Falz Aegis Urgent Quest first came out, this was the first true realization of the gearing discrepancy in the game. A group that had at least decent gear would clear the fight in 10-15 minutes. Whereas a general PUG run with people who put literally zero effort into their gear, would take anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes to clear the fight. This is not an exaggeration. That is an absurd amount of time difference, and was easily fixable at the time by just getting some decent gear. Not even top tier gear. Yet, way too many people would continue not to do so. So, while, I do hear you and I do agree, you don't "need" the top tier most ultimate gear in the game. I will say that you need to at least be conscious of your gearing choices if you're going to be playing with others. Specifically in high level content or timed content where clearing with a certain rank effects drops. If anything, be conscious of it out of common courtesy & decency. When I say comparison is the thief of joy, it is not to say that you should not try to improve or better oneself. Or that you should not try to understand the gaming mechanics and why it would help if you do this or that. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Joy comes in self improvement. Self improvement is particular to every individual's case scenario and circumstances. Every individual scenario & circumstance has room for growth. Growth is Joy.
i will never understand this childlike mentality in the enviroment of a game that is 99% PVE oriented, why compare? why does it matter? if people can p2w their way for faster clear times trough better gear, sure it's their loss of experience in general since they skip part of gameplay by doin that but they are absolutely allowed to do so, and they will. it should be default mindset for people to not compare in a pve game, my biggest issue so far was that the new content was actually gearlocked behind very expensive augs mostly available to whales / lucky people / heavy idle cobat zone farmers, and that in fact changed with dalion and introduction of triyal augs that reward skilled players with greater potency in exchange for being a glass canon, i am able to clear dfd consecutively with a set of augs that are worth perhaps 400k messeta in total, this was not possible when we had solus or even hardly possible when mdfa came up, and once again, with dfd introduction the game is finally going in bit better direction for players who value skill above gear, stay chill and keep up good mentality.
Hello and thanks for your input! I don't believe there's any reason to call it "childlike mentality". I believe that's a little demeaning and unnecessary for the topic at hand. Just because a game is PvE, doesn't mean it's without means to improve or compete. (This is moreso to your, "why does it matter?" statement, as even though it's in regards to comparing, the continuation of your response has it come off as if you're completely dismissing the need or want to be current on gear or up to date, etc etc). And as such thus, compete with oneself. While PvE MMORPGs don't have PvP, they are heavily group play oriented, in that you're gearing or learning your classes to perform better as a whole, or for personal achievements. Not much different than how a track star works every day to increase their time. Even if they're not the fastest person in the group. Or a body builder works every day to naturally increase their personal best. Etc, etc. It's healthy and creates a better you. In regards to augments and content that was "Gearlocked", with lucky people or whales having the gear. This is not the case. As, I'm living proof of that. I'm not lucky, and I'm not a whale. I just put the time in because I enjoy the game and enjoy placing my own personal achievements. Nothing in this game has ever really been historically difficult to obtain. However of course, there are some items where a whale can throw money and obtain a convenience factor. Triyal augments do not "reward" anyone. The same way that to completely ignore the value of floor potency, is to essentially have tunnel vision. Triyal augments are there, and alternatives. However, they are in no means, shape or form, some sort of "reward" to skilled players those who want to be glass cannons.
@@Spikesxu thanks for a quite comprehensive response. about people trying to get better, it's a good thing in general, by childlike mentality i mean people who aim way higher than they currently can "compete" and get overly emotional with it, despite being perfectly capable of doing most, if not all of the given content, because if you get frustrated to be below someone in a ranking board, you will be frustrated whole life unless you are the the top 1. i'm still standing on my point of gearlocked content before dfd because the absurdity of time you would have to spent farming, if you were unlucky, is probably crossing out most of the players that can't, for any reason, spend 8 hours a day in the game. I've never meant it wasn't achievable trough dedication and slow farming, but let's be real, f2p players who did that are a minority. Triyal augs are actually rewarding if you can substitute potency floor with decent crit rate from fixa, add-ons and / or subclass, they open up more options for budget builds that actually can compete with very expensive augs in terms of dps. and no one who knows how to run dfd canon phase laughs at pot floor, cheers.

Honestly man game aside this is something I needed to hear irl. Good talk
Glad I could help & that my words resonated with you!
I am so proud of myself for arks record, I bought wingard and thought I would've rolled it. It took me 9 minutes to monkey and I died to it.
I am such a pro 🤣
😂you'll get it next time!
this is a great topic tbh. Not everyone can be as cool as me so don’t stress yourselves out 😂

"Someone's gonna be very upset when I say this, but, bro Force kinda strong bruh" *UNSUBSCRIBED, DISLIKED, REPORTED, SENT TO THE POLICE, UNACCEPTABLE, MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS IMMESURABLE AND DAY RUINED!*
I'm joking ofcourse haha honestly I 120% agree with this whole message as always haha Comparison is the thief of joy.
Great input! You absolutely understand it!
Good stuff.
Thank you!
Always good to experience new classes & weapons!
Keep at it!

MMO is freedom.. just enjoy playing.
Correct!
