Our visit Pula travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to pizza, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, forts churches, the old town, roman ruins, theatres, beaches and along the marina. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Pula tourism brochure, Pula itinerary or Pula, Croatia city tour also known as Pola.
10 Things to do in Pula, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Pola)
Pula was our first introduction to Croatia and what a way to start! Located on the Istrian peninsula, this seaside town is home to Roman ruins, ancient temples, and some delicious pizza. The town won us over right from day one, so in this video, we’re going to take you on a tour of Pula and show you some of the highlights:
The amphitheatre was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time the Colosseum in Rome was going up. What’s even more shocking is how well preserved it is; this is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre with all four side towers and three stories still standing.
As a travel tip, if you visit during the summer months, you can catch numerous events at the amphitheatre, including concerts, movie screenings, and even reenactments of games from Ancient Rome.
When it comes to boat tours, the most popular destination is , a group of small islands that sit out on the Adriatic Sea.
The islands have a few archaeological and cultural sites but though admission to the park used to be free, these days you have to join one of the official excursions arranged by the park or local tourist agencies.
As for Pula Cathedral, it turns out it was closed when we tried to visit, so we can only show you the outside.
After all that wandering around town, it was finally time for lunch. We arrived at Jupiter Pizzeria just as they were opening and didn’t waste any time grabbing a seat on their outdoor terrace.
The fortress we spotted turned out to be Pula Castle, also known as Kaštel. Located atop a hill right in the centre of Pula, this fortress was built by the Venetians during the 17th century.
Admission was 20 kuna per person and there were two different museums exhibits to visit, however, we’d argue that the main draw are the views.
Over the course of the centuries, the Temple of Augustus has seen many uses from a Christian church to a grain storehouse, but at present, it houses a very small 1-room museum - and when we say small, we mean you can visit in 5 minutes!
The Roman Mosaic is just a short walk from the Forum, so it’s worth the little detour down back streets. This incredible well-preserved floor depicts the Punishment of Dirce, which is straight out of Greek mythology.

Honestly, if you have an hour or two to kill, just take a stroll around the streets and the harbor. Pula is so pretty, so laid-back in terms of pace and haste, so gorgeous to just venture through when you have no real spot/place to get to in a hurry.
The city streets are gorgeous, the buildings sooooo damn pretty and well-kept in shape.
It's been a few years since I've been to be honest, but I am buzzing to get back there. This place is just so beautiful, inside and out. 😍 💕

Going to return a piece of the Amphitheatre i took with me 25 years ago, I always felt a bit awkward when I see that thing on my wife´s dressing table.
People of Istria btw are still to this day considering themselves to be a sort of Italian, hence the Risorante Pizzeria Gelato connection. And if you listen in close you can still hear people talking Italian in the streets, but that actually is the same everywhere on the Croatian coast.

What a treat, Croatia got it all.....and with the dinner-background-music in my ears, three different versions of my favorite Sam and Aud specialties - Sam in his happy place and Aud swishing a full glass of red, both filled with anticipation - and the double whammy, Aud clutching the camera, with Sam struggling to keep up, in his JOHDPUR finest, both as eager as little beavers about to build a dam.....awesome....:-)

I enjoyed the video. I’m heading to Pula in August. I’m looking forward to it, but I know it’s gonna be a bit of a challenge for me because I’m slightly disabled. But I’m starting in a hotel right down the street from the amphitheater and I’m staying four days, so I don’t have to rush to see things. I just want to take my time getting around, enjoy the sights and food. Thanks for sharing this video.

I'm glad you had a nice time in Pula, I'm living on your beach - well, practically 😂. Scampi from your pizza the shrimp but, for some reason, we're convinced that anyone should understand scampi as this is in Italian. I can understand your disappointment with the Temple of Augustus but this is the place of worship, not quite a museum. Next to the Temple was another one, the Temple of Venus but it was destroyed in WW2 by bombing 😢. You have proved to be in good shape, I'm not sure if I could do all that stuff in a day, Kastel, in particular, is demanding to go to the top after the pizza. Congrats, nice video.

After WWII Croatia killed and destroied this population and civilisation, forcing 350.000 Italians living in Istria for 2000 years to diaspora, and Croatians replaced the original local population. Interesting fact you guys probably don't know about Pula and surrounding area including nearby islands!
Until Croatian independence of 1991.,Pula was major naval base and Yugoslav Navy Recruitment Center. When I was serving in Navy (1983,we didn't have choice),Pula was always crowded with soldiers. I believe it was naval base during time of Austro-Hungarian Empire as well.
You have mentioned Brijuni National Park!
Brijuni was strictly reserved for dictator Tito and rest of communist elite.
Sadly it's same thing today. Those pests just don't want to go away.
It seems like you have been lucky with weather considering the time of the year of your visit to the coast. That region has mild climate but sometimes in winter we have couple of wind storms and I can tell you,I have never experienced anything like that. It literally blows through your body.

"This wouldn't be hockey, this would be people fighting to the death" ehh, isn't that just what Ice Hockey is?
Also, it's a misconception that Gladiators were always fighting to the death. Gladiators were skilled employees that were expensive to buy and train, so it was completely economically unviable to have them fight to the death every time.
