- Split is located in western Croatia along the Dalmatian coast. As Croatia’s second largest city, it’s always buzzing with life and has been for thousands of years. Split was put on the map by the emperor Diocletian, who had his palace built here between 295 and 305. After his death, the palace was continuously used throughout history by different civilizations, like the Romans, Byzantines, and Venetians. Today, life continues between the old city walls and it’s one of the reasons why travelers visit. But Split’s unique setting between the dramatic coastal mountains and the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea also make it an ideal vacation hub. In this video, we’ll highlight 10 amazing things to do in and around Split.

So glad I found you! I'm planning our first trip to Europe, two (maybe three) weeks in Poland and Croatia, and your videos are by far the best I've seen (and I've watched a ton!)! I love how you do the maps (so very helpful!!) and how you put the names of the places in small font on the bottom corner so it doesn't block the screen. Everything about how you video is fantastic!! Italy is better right like Sicily ?
We’ve never been! High on our bucket list 😁
@@gurugamer8632 I’ve never been to Sicily so I can’t compare the two. Split is beautiful and the water front by Diocletian’s palace is postcard gorgeous.
Thank you! Very helpful :)

1700 years of living history. Hello from Split riviera!
Hello!!
Hi Thanks for a great video Can you recommend a day trip from Split? Thanks
Jess
Yes we highlight some day trip from Split in the video! All are great
This is a lovely video!! We are thinking about going on an extended holiday/ living there for a couple of months! Just wondered how the public transport is??
We had a rental car so didn’t use the public transport! The downtown area is pretty compact so you can explore mostly on foot. (Driving is a hassle downtown actually and parking limited!)
❤❤❤
🥰
You guys made such a great video, that I am really interested jn visiting Croatia now 🙂 I know you guys have been in portugal also, so I would like to ask you, if you would have to chose one of the two countries to live in, which one will be and why?
That’s a really tough question! Both countries have things we like… great climate, affordable, lots of thing to do and places to explore. But I think Portugal might be the winner in terms of the food, the language is easier to learn, it’s better connected to other places in Europe, and the overall city atmosphere to live in is better. It’s vibrant and has a larger community of expats (at least that’s how it felt!). But both are great! 😉 you should definitely visit!
@@worldwildhearts thanks a lot for your quick reply. A very good thoughtful one, I would say. Really helpful. I know that Croatia got popular in the last 10 years or so, and in the same time more expensive. Portugal is also getting more and more popular, isn't it? But for some reasons I guess it is not yet too expensive?
Portugal is getting popular too! The food there is generally cheaper than Croatia, but the accommodation prices are the same. Accommodation is still reasonable compared to Northern Europe… Fuel is more expensive in Portugal and they also have a lot of toll roads. In Croatia, there aren’t as many toll roads (but they still have a few). Maybe it also changes a bit depending on the season. October turned out to be the perfect month to visit Croatia and we probably saved a lot of money compared to the summer season!
This sounds great, I just watched ur video on Dubrovnik and am planning on going to Split too. I was wondering if u could share the map with all the locations shown in the video. Thx for all the advice. U made me want to travel to Croatia! ❤
Also, for the places to visit in Split, you can find them here: www.worldwildhearts.com/post/split-in-croatia
@worldwildhearts it's a great experience. How many days you took to cover these many places ? I am wondering if possible with 3 days ?
We stayed for 6 days, but it’s definitely possible to cover the city in 3 days! We also did a few day tours from there
My husband and I will be visiting Split, Croatia 3 months from now but I don't think we will be able to see the most beautiful places featured in your video because 8am to 5pm while the Cruise ship is docked for the day is not enough. We would like to see at least Krka National Park but the day trip takes longer than we are allowed to stay. You mentioned that it is closer if maybe we rent a car. Can you elaborate more on that option? By the way, your video is amazing and very informative. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Yeah that’s not so much time to visit Split unfortunately… it’s possible to rent a car from split and drive to Krka indeed, which is about an hour drive. In Krka, you could visit Skradinski Buk (the other places are an additional 40 mins of driving). Just keep in mind that Split is bigger than you might think and there’s definitely some traffic getting in and out of the city. Once you’re out, it will be fine! Check rentalcars to see if they have some rental cars available that aren’t too far from old town. You could try to visit Krka during the morning and then spend 2 hours in the old town of the city at the end of the day before the ship leaves. The old town is pretty small and the ships are usually docked right in front of the Riva!
@@worldwildhearts Thank you so much for the advice. We might just do that in Split to save valuable time. Happy traveling.
Amazing video! how many days would you recommend staying in split?
In Split alone 1-2 days is enough! But if you want to do any of the tours from there (like blue cave, Krka, or plitvice) then add a day for each!
Are there boats to the islands?/
Is the blue cave worth visiting or just over hyped? Do you have a boat service to recommend for this cave trip? Thanks in advance ☺️
Hi! The Blue Cave is worth visiting if you haven't seen anything like it before. The colours are beautiful but it's definitely quite a trip to get there (by boat). You can find the link in the description below the video to the boat tour we joined.
Thank you!
Hi. Nice video. Is it too cold to visit in March?
Thanks
It really depends! Not as cold as northern Europe lol
Hi! Loved this video. We are planning a visit to Split this spring. Do you still have a code for Get Your Guide experiences?
That’s a great time to visit! Unfortunately the codes expired so it’s not valid anymore. But the experiences are still on the platform. Sometimes they have discounts on certain occasions (like Black Friday or maybe even Valentine?)
My born town is most visitis city in world he is city of world in summer time perfect beautiful smol city in Europe best for vist!!🇭🇷🇪🇺
Yes Split is absolutely stunning!
Can you guide me to all of your links to the excursions, etc? Thank you!
they are all in the description below the video... can you see it? There's a button with "show more"
@@worldwildhearts Got it, thanks!
Do you have the GPS coordinates for Marjan Hill Sunset Viewpoint please?
It’s called “Vrh Telegrin” on google maps
Speaking of viewpoint, this has 260,001 views as of now.
From india ❤️
Hello!! ☺️
I may have missed it... how many days did this trip entail?
We stayed in Split for 5 days!
Can you please tell us what is the best place to stay in split? I am planning to spend two nights in split.
If you only have 2 nights there, I'd recommend staying as close to the city center as possible (near Diocletian's palace). Maybe take a look at the Lovret or Spinut area.
How much s ticket to the cathedral?
We don't exactly remember, but it wasn't very expensive. And you could combine them in one price... St. Domnius Cathedral, the Bell Tower & Temple of Jupiter
Is it better to stay in a Hotel or appartement?
We stayed in an appartment so we could cook dinners. But a hotel would also be great if you like to eat out more or stay in the city center.
You should watch Hajduk
you forgot to put in mountainbiking down marjan
Thanks for the added advice!
West?
Did you rent a car? Or how is best way to come from A-Z?
We had a rental car indeed. But it's not necessarily needed, especially not in the city (it can get very busy driving)!
plz do not come here
dont go to Croatia they will sreal from yoy its not like its seemes
italy is better!
Italy💩
Your mom is better than your sister, but both are good 😂
Subjective
thank you for your beautiful words and also beautiful scenes about Split and Croatia, i hope that you enyojed over here and if you came back again i recomend you to visit Solin and ruins from ancinet city Salona which were huge city even in Roman empire, than there is also smal place Vranjic which is called " litlle Venice" , or city Kaštela (it is divided at 7 parts because there were 7 castles and people from here compare them with French riviera, than you have city of Trogir which is also on Unesco list.
i believe you saw that this area is rich with history from Roman empire ( even before) and that you have ruins and monuments where ever you look so here are so manny small places which also have somenthing to offer like Marina,Omiš, Sinj,Imotski,Drniš......and as you said around Split are several beautiful islands like Šolta,Brač ,Hvar,Čiovo......and so manny small islands where people dont live and there are so manny hidden beaches with clean and blue sea.
We loved our time in Croatia and hope to be back soon! Thanks for all the info... we'll add it to our list
