I have always wondered how to make biscotti. When you do it, it seems so simple! I will have to give it a go now. Happy Nov 20th, 2024 from Sk., Canada 🇨🇦
Once when I was making a pound cake, I had run out of almond flavoring. It called for a tsp of vanilla and a tsp of almond. So instead, I used the vanilla and orange extract. It was absolutely delicious and I've made it that way since. Happy little accidents!!
Thank you, my 12 year old granddaughter and I have just used your recipe to make the biscotti. We didn't have lemons either so used a lime. They are an absolute delight. So easy to make too.
biscotti with amaretto, almonds and chopped dried apricots are delicious too. I do love all of the flavors though. I dip the bottoms of my biscotti so the chocolate goes right across and a little up on the sides.
Love cookies, they look a little bit like dutch "bokkepootjes" with the chocolate on the end.... Thanks for the recipe Kate 😽Greetings from The Netherlands
I make cranberry, anise and as well as almond biscotti a few times per month, because I have friends who love some with a cup of coffee. By the way your wonderful wall colours have inspired me to the point my friend Andrea and I have been buying new colours of paint for the main room and kitchen.
This kitchen wasn't always this way - it gets more and more colourful all the time .... I have some new paint for another idea I have .... when I have a few minutes! I'll film that little change xxx
I saw Rita going up there, and noticed there is a blankie up there for her. She seems to like watching you from up above. That is what I call, "surveying her kingdom." Thank you for sharing the steps to successful biscotti making. Always a pleasure to be in the kitchen with you. Enjoy the day! Catherine
Ooh that biscotti looks scrumptious xx Don't think i have time to try making them... since I started watching you Kate, I've starting baking and cooking and sewing and knitting... so much so that Ive had problems with my fingers ( carpal tunnel syndrome) but not to worry. I am happy and will be more careful not to over do it ( famous last words of a piano teacher...hahaha)
Great watching the biscotti! It must be tasty with almonds- probably great- i have had biscotti plane with coffee- thank you again, Kate! know i no how to make them! Exciting! Thank you, Kate! Sandi Myer!😂💕
I must make these..perhaps cranberries, walnut pieces and white choc. Thanks kate...I absolutely love your channel, have subscribed, and consider it a treat to see what u r creating. Happy holidays.
Oh my! I love biscotti. Never made them though. No one else will be eating them so, think I shall make some for the New Year. A cuppa and a biscotti while sitting on the deck swing bringing in the New Year watching nature sounds divine. Wish you could join me. Thanks Kate.
What a wonderful video!! And I'm so glad to see that your kitchen drawer is just like mine (except the utensils seem to put up more of fight when I try to take them out....haha) My first thought before seeing the whole video was that you should combine this effort with your homage to Hercules Candies and dip them in chocolate...but of course you were way ahead of me on that idea. Wow...almonds, orange and chocolate...who could ask for more !!!!
I sometimes think I should edit that stuff out, but then, if we're honest, we all have a couple of drawers like that don't we? And if not, maybe folk could have a laugh! I packed up about two thirds of the biscotti and gave them as the birthday gift, but I've been working my way through the last third and they taste rather good. You just knew there would be chocolate didn't you! ha ha !!!
I've never made biscotti. You've made it look so simple. I don't drink coffee, but I would love to make these as gifts. I'll be saving your video to my favorites list so I'll have it when the need comes. Thank you
Good! these things have a mystery about them, but they are really easy if you research the recipes a bit. That article I linked to has a lot of great information - I hope you try them! xxx
Yum! Those looked grand. I make biscotti every year, too. Hazelnut with Frangelico (hazelnut liquor) for flavouring are a favourite. Also, anything flavoured with anise...
Oh those looked delicious!! Please share when you make the other varieties for Christmas it would be lovely to watch. I had everything to make them along with you except for eggs, so sad. I will do the next time. I caught Rita right from the start she looked so peaceful. Thanks for sharing Kate. xx Angela
I didn't see Rita until half way through the edit! And yes, I have a few cooking Christmas Videos planned - well, not planned, that sounds too organised for me - in my jumbled up head! ha ha ha !!!xxx
I always thought that biscotti was terribly difficult to make... not sure why I thought that! thanks for giving me the inspiration to make a treat that my sisters will love to get as a holiday gift!
they are SOOOO easy - just find a recipe you like and stick to it. I really like that series in the Guardian - I read it for most things i want to try. good Luck with yours! xxx
Hello, Kate! So glad to know that I'm not the only one making biscotti this time of year. I'm a bit envious though at your fresh eggs and fresh almonds. Thanks for sharing the recipe link from the Guardian. I was worried I was going to have to watch repeatedly and pause to write down the ingredients. Love your cooking and chocolate vidyas -- this was the best of both worlds. Would love to see more variations on the theme if you have the time. Got quite a chuckle when you got into the drawer for the beaters -- my drawer looks about the same but you found what you needed without pulling everything else out. Have a terrific week. Looking forward to more Kate and the cats.
Everyone has a drawer like that - if they say they haven't .... well, I wouldn't believe them! and its crazy, because we only use the first three things - one of these days I'll turn it out! I can't thank my neighbour enough for the almonds. they are so delicious! And I will be making biscotti again, my middle kid absolutely loves them! xxxx (31!)
Hi nice people, what Kate is cooking are not called biscotti in any part or region in Italy, by all means. The right and only name is: CANTUCCI and definitely with no chocolate on them. Biscotti is the general name for biscuits any sort of biscuits.. Having said this, the cantuccini of this recipe look and must teste fantastic , well done. Love from Italy 😘
Oh Kate, I'm still catching up on your videos and the biscotti brought back more memories. I've been making "rocky road" chocolate the last few years, for my 2 children to send them at Easter time. Last year I also added a batch of coffee and pecan biscotti, in the smaller, thinner style. Needless to say, they were a huge hit. Better than a generic store bought egg eh! Watching you in your kitchen makes me desperate to finally find another house, to finally unpack my gadgets from storage, and just get stuck in again. In the meantime, I'll content myself with watching your antics. Regards from Oz.
Oh I hope you find the home of your dreams soon! I know how frustrating it can be not having your things around you! I think I may have to make some biscotti again soon - my son loves them! xxx
They look delicious Kate. And that is from a person that doesn't like almonds. Me.😂 Just love your cooking videos and while watching you making this, one idea keeps coming to me. A colab with Jamie. Both of you in one kitchen. That would be so awesome. 😉😂 And how did Rita even got up there? It's so high and all the shelves are filled with kitchen things.
Oh! That's hilarious! My son, years ago, did some camera work for one of Jamie's series and he worked on the set so I know that his kitchen and mine couldn't be more different! It's a nice idea though! Rita is an agile cat. She jumps! xxxx
How lovely of your friend to share her almonds with you. I love the crisp sound made when you sliced the biscotti. My favorite is cranberry orange. Rita is a clever girl; she has a nice warm spot she doesn't have to share! I hope she hasn't fallen off. Such a nice mum you are. I hope the birthday girl enjoyed her treat# Thanks for sharing!
oooh that sounds great. I made these a little big. I'll be making the gift ones a bit smaller - so maybe - with that quantity of dough - three thinner sausages and a little less time in the oven - I've got a plan for some macadamia nuts and white chocoalte dipped ones. I hope you get to make some for your open house! xxx
I went to the post office earlier today - I have mu fingers crossed you get the box before Advent! I have some more Christmas Makes in the pipeline! xxx
hi kate..I never ate biscotti before. It looks yummy.I think I might give it a try.Rita looks like she is having a very relaxing time...lol & I see norma isn't very far away from the action..thanks kate.
Norma is my constant shadow. Biscotti can be a bit hard if they are baked too long. That is why they are traditionally served with coffee, it is very acceptable to dip them in to soften them! xxx
I spotted Rita just after I spotted your beautiful coloured wall hanging on the pink wall. What is it made from? Is it felted wool? It's beautiful. I'm very intrigued. 🤩
New subscriber sent over from Vivi. I am in love with your kitchen AND your biscotti. I have a recipe from Sunset Magazine for Lemon Pistachio Biscotti with a lemon glaze on top. I literally cannot stop eating them.😋 Merry Christmas from Florida. 🎄🎄🎁🎁🎅🎅
She jumps! I have made sure she has a clear run - like the things on the left hand shelf are near the front and she has a little cushion on the middle section. She loves it! xxx
I notice you use your new cooker top as a working surface. Does the glass not scratch? Handy place to have, I'd imagine. I've got a tiny kitchen and when cooking with bowls and sheets and pans, I have become adept at balancing things. another 4-5 sq ft would be handy!

I just love your boho kitchen.

Love the colors in your kitchen! Have you always had it so colorful? You remind me of Freddie Moran, one of my favorite quilting gurus!

Mmmmm, fresh eggs, fresh almonds. How did Rita get up there!?

Excellent! Just made these, following your recipe and they came out brilliantly!
they are delicious aren't they - i think it may be time for some more! xxx
tee hee! do you find yourself scraping a bowl like Quick Steve does? I love watching him--he doesn't miss a drop!
So Rita jumps up there all the way from the floor? She is quite the agile cat.I just loved seeing her there while you baked your biscotti.
no - she jumps onto the cupboard beside the shelf - but it is still quite a leap! xxx
Have a onderful week.
and you xxx
Makes me want to make some x
Yay. I'm not the only one whose gadget drawer is organized chaos!
What temp do you bake biscotti.
I can't find any new videos, are you ok? Are you still making weekly videos.
MISS YOU.
Laura Fifer massive internet problems- I’m having an engineer come out on Tuesday to fix it. Sorry, it’s been very problematic, but I’ll get back to posting videos just as soon as I can! Xxx
How does one find the Patron (?) site to join?
Ha ha . You too have asbestos fingers 😂😂😂
They look delicious .... And so nicely wrapped. Another triumph .
How did Rita the cat get way up there?
Oh yummy!! I love biscotti. Will definitely try your recipe. Question: is the 150-160 oven in Fahrenheit or Celsius? Thanks. I’m oven-challenged. Lol. What a lovely gift you’ve made your friends, and shared with all of us! Please call when next batch is ready and I’ll grab some Passion Fruit Tea and come right over. Lol. Thanks for improving my day, Kate. You’re a treasure.
The treasure is in us all - all these lovely comments make me feel very loved! Ovens then - Celsius is the unit - I get very confused by Fahrenheit even though I grew up with it. If the weather forecaster says the temperature will be 70'F I have to google is to convert it! (sad) The there is Gas Mark 6 - which is about 200'C I think - I shall have to be more careful just tossing these things out there - I caused a huge problem mentioning caster sugar!!!!! But someone sorted it out in the comments. I have great subscribers! ha ha ha !!!!
Qué delicia de panes me gustaría que pongan subtítulos en español para poder entender lo que hablan 👍
Hi Kate ~ refresh my memory, is caster sugar what I would refer to as icing sugar or is regular white sugar? The recipe you are using seems to be simple enough and easy to make. Of course UA-cam has popped up a video for another biscotti recipe using cranberries and pistachios. Thank you for the video and I am sure your friend will enjoy her present.
I think castor sugar is what we call granulated in the States.
In North America, the common sugars are (from the finest grain to largest):
icing sugar (or powdered sugar)
Berry sugar or superfine (caster sugar)
Granulated sugar (general purpose)
Demerara (very coarse crystals)
Rock sugar (or coffee crystals)
Busy Beaver A few seconds in the VitaMix/blender will turn table sugar to Caster.
Marie has it - that is exactly right - granulated is too dense - caster is for cakes. I have a problem with All Purpose Flour - is that self raising or what we call plain?
The Last Homely House East of the Sea All Purpose Flour is just the ground grain. In the US Self-Rising has both salt and a rising agent in it (baking powder, might have soda as well, depends on brand).
Just like I make them!!
I saw the cat! ❤️
I didn't until I was editing! ha ha!!!
Norma was there on the table Kate !!!😱
Is there any thing that you can't do ?
Yum 😋
Almond extract??? Mmmm
